STOP PUTTING YOUR KIDS IN CAR SEATS.! (1 Viewer)

99.7% of kids that rode home from the hospital in car seats developed cerebral palsy. You can look it up.

Why take the risk? Why listen to "scientists"?

Thought this was going to be about the latest baby who died after being left in a car seat by a busy (not neglectful) parent.

I think this has to be a parent's worst nightmare, but I can totally understand how it happens.

I believe I read that more children have died because of rear facing child seats (being left because not visible to the driver) than have been saved by them (as opposed to forward facing seats).

I also heard that 100% people who have masturbated in their lifetime have died. Well, 100% of people who are known to have died, anyway. Since nobody really knows for sure whether Elijah actually died when he was swept up into the whirlwind into the sky...and Jesus died, but was only dead for less than three days before he rose again (so was he ever REALLY technically "dead?"). And both of them are at least reasonable bets to have never spanked the 'ol monkey... :grad:

The moral of the story? Masturbation is a death sentence. Do it even once, and your fate is sealed...you will die at some point in your life! [/publicserviceannouncement]

Applying the anti-vaccine mentality to car seats

What if a big TV station came out with a blockbuster story claiming that infant car seats were implicated in cerebral palsy (CP)?

There's the way it needs to be written to make sense.

100% of children that are never conceived have no health problems.
The rate of teenage pregnancy drops dramatically after the age of 19.
The chances of contracting testicular cancer vary greatly between men and women.
On average...there are almost 2 nipples per every 1 person on earth.
The average person on earth has one boob and one ball.

On the other hand, that means that if you've already done it at least once, you might as well continue, since it's not going to get any worse...

What a bunch of guppies. While you guys are blindly listening to the experts, Culter is making the shark move. The 95 percent go out and get their shots making sure dangerous diseases are virtually wiped out, while the sharks of the world benefits while not having to expose their kids potential dangerous side effects. You guys are nothing but an easy snack for the real sharks. I am drafting Culter.

I am conducting my own research on this matter.

Research on this topic has already been beaten to death.

So this ridiculously stupid hyperbole is not even original. Hopefully we can start more terrible threads on this topic.

Serious question, this thread is a good spot for it:

When did you change the car seat from rear facing to front? Did you do it on size of your child or age? I get a different response on this from everyone and everywhere.

In a new policy statement published in the April 2011 issue of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics now advises parents to keep toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age two, or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the car seat, which can be found on the back of the seat. Many parents currently choose to flip their child to forward-facing around his or her first birthday.

Previously, the AAP advised parents to keep kids rear-facing as long as possible, up to the maximum limit of the car seat, and this has not changed. But it also cited one year and 20 pounds as the minimum for flipping the seat, which many parents and pediatricians interpreted as conventional wisdom on the best time to make the switch. The new policy clarifies the AAP’s recommendation, making age two the new guideline—a real game-changer for parents of toddlers.

A 2007 study in the journal Injury Prevention found that children under age two are 75 percent less likely to die or to be severely injured in a crash if they are rear-facing. Another study found riding rear-facing to be five times safer than forward-facing.

“A rear-facing child safety seat does a better job of supporting the head, neck and spine of infants and toddlers in a crash, because it distributes the force of the collision over the entire body,” said Dennis Durbin, M.D., F.A.A.P., a pediatric emergency physician and co-scientific director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphiaand lead author of the policy statement and accompanying technical report.

Parenting talked to Ben Hoffman, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and a child passenger safety technician, to get answers to parents’ most pressing questions about the new policy.

Although the new baseline is now age two, the AAP has advised parents since 2002 to keep kids rear-facing until they reach the height or weight limit of their car seat. Why are parents so eager to turn their car seats?Parents are interested in milestones, and the minimum of one year and 20 lbs has been interpreted as gold standard instead of the minimum,” says Dr. Hoffman. “Parents are always looking for the next stage of development because in every other scenario, that’s a good thing. With car safety seats, however, that's often not the case."

Why do you hate children authoritarian big-government wiennies who believe they know everything about running other people's lives and think it is the role of the federal government to force all into submission?

Agreed. We should do away with the whole government mandated car seat thing. Let those newborn infants roam free in a moving vehicle as they were meant to!

My point was not about car seats, but extending that logic into every other area of our lifes.

Why not just make all seats rear facing except the driver? Once automated cars are standard, then they all can be rear facing. Then we are all safe, not just the damn kids.

So you believe the logic applies in some instances but not others, and that it shouldn't apply in every area of our lives? If so, everyone agrees with you.

I believe the merits of an arguement should be based on the particular facts of the case, not into some analogy which has zero to do with it, as is the case of this thread. So I am not sure everyone agrees with it.

Has anyone studied whether children in rear facing seats start masturbating at an earlier age? This seems worthy of study, given the topics in this thread.
