Strategy for drafting MJD (1 Viewer)

Why not pick up MJD as your #2 RB and draft Freddy Taylor later on and start both players every week

Assuming you can start a 3rd RB in your flex.

If you total up their numbers from last year and divide by 2 you get two top 10 RB's in your lineup every week.

If you get LT or SJAX and have the option of MJD on the 2/3 turn I say you pull the trigger and look to pair him up with Freddy Taylor later on.

Opinions, thoughts?

If I had the LT or SJax I probably would do it. The problem is wasting a 4th or 5th rounder on grabbing Taylor. If I'm going RB-RB....then I like the idea that I can pencil in those two RB's every week.

The idea here is you have a flex spot and start Taylor as your 3rd RB

I am not sure what his ADP is currently but I am sure you can get him on the cheap

Interesting idea but if Jax is shut down, so are you. Too many eggs in one basket I'm afraid.

It's pretty rare for duel threat backfields to survive multiple years. The Julius Jones/MBIII situation is the exception to the rule. If both do what they did last year, your idea has merit and you'd be in great shape. But personally I'd rather spread my eggs over more baskets.

I guess my aprehension with doing it would be that I'm spending a late2nd/ Ealry 3rd and another pick a couple of rounds later + using up two roster slots just to get the rushing production from one team. If it were me, I would probably go RB-RB-RB with the third being MJD to be used as my flex spot...then if I can get him cheap and not at the expense of another position get Taylor as insurance down the road. MJD would be a tremendous 3rd RB......even without Taylor. It's a similar situation to the Priest/LJ scenario a couple of years ago when one had to use a higher than normal pick to get a backup/complementary RB.

I don't see why not. Fred Taylor is probably the most useful handcuff in the league when healthy. If you had LT you would try to get Michael Turner. If you had Clinton Portis you would try to get Ladell Betts. Taylor for MJD isn't much different except that Taylor should play more.

What an interesting idea. I may use this strategy in my 20yard rush/rec per point and ppr league. I am drafting 8th in a snake draft. I could take top WR at no.8 and MJD at 13th. Then take Taylor in 6th or 7th.

I did this. I have LJ, MJD, and F. Taylor. Depending on the matchup, I might start MB3 nstead of Taylor. Mine was from the 5th pick however.

That is a pretty cool idea. I could also see it working if you had a later pick in a 12 man league and grab Bush with your 1st or 2nd pick, and then Deuce with either your 3rd or 4th pick.

The Taylor/MJD option is a little better though as you'd use your 2nd on MJD and wouldnt have to grat Freddy T until the 5th or 6th.

To those saying "too many eggs in one basket", I wouldnt mind having all my eggs in the Jax running game basket. Great OLine and not a lot of passing. Nice thought.

Fred has an adp in the 8th, making it even better. So really you can wait until the 7th, and load up on wr's.

I disagree with this simply because I imagine that you will have to expend a much earlier pick to grab Taylor than you would have grab Turner (or Betts but I think Betts is closer to Taylor). In any of the 3 cases you are expecting the player to be nothing more than a handcuff or spot player (the original poster suggests starting both, and if you want to do that then I suppose go for it), but I would rather grab a handcuff with a 10th or 11th round pick (ADP for Turner currently 107) than a 6th or 7th (ADP for Taylor currently 71) round pick.
