This is from my main league. We have a convoluted system using yards allowed, TFL, 3 n outs, 4th down stops, et al.

Anyone else like Baltimore at home this week?they have been playing pretty well.

Washington, NY Jets, and Lions are the other viable options.

I have been streaming in 2 leagues with limited success.  Someone dropped Minnesota for the Carolina match-up last week, in one of my leagues, and I bid, too much, to pick them up.  Streaming, at least for the first couple weeks, hasn't been working out very well for me.  In the other league I put the same claim in on Dallas and Washington.  Prefer Washington because they at home but like Dallas who should shorten the game with their ball control offense and SF doesn't have much on offense to worry about.  i

Cleveland beats Washington in Washington in a high scoring affair. Book it.

(Unless I am wrong, then pay no attention to this post.)

I am rolling Baltimore had to make my decision today for the claim, passed over Washington who I'm sure will get bid on anyways.

Yeah I drafted them, started for 2 weeks then hoped they'd be average at best against PIT and with the bye would be an easy cheap FAAB pickup. Now am going to have to pay up for them but am doing it this week to do it a bit cheaper. I agree though their schedule rest of season is really nice.

I personally draft a D that I can run out for a couple weeks straight and then either hold or stream from there.  Philly was a great candidate this year.

I want to pull the trigger on Baltimore too but I keep going back and forth with them, the Jets, Redskins, and Bills.

Minnesota is available in my league. I have the #2 priority for waivers.  Currently I have the NY Jets.  Do you think Minnesota is worth putting in a waiver? Thanks

I don't like any of my choices.

TB - not holding them (@ DEN), 1 & done

Jets - were my DST the first 2 weeks. Wilson might be hurting & Seattle scored one TD in 22 possessions before last weekends explosion v SF

Cowboys - don't really generate sacks or TOs, seem decidedly average

Chargers - have been trending the right way, Saints coming off MNF loss & traveling

Lions - yeah it's the Bears but they're hurting & can't stop anyone

Colts/Jags - 11 turnovers between these QBs but I'm going with the over

Titans - one thing, their game scripts - should be low scoring again

SF/CLE/CHI/NO/ATL - not really liking any of these teams match ups

yuck

Maybe Chargers, Jets or Titans - not feeling it.

Not having much luck streaming this year.

Doubtful either of the teams on a bye get their DST dropped but if they do I'll snag the Pack or Eagles.

Thanks. Yaknow despite all the backups and a couple 3rd stringers no one seems like a dead lock solid streaming opponent. I'm pretty gunshy after my Miami/Cleveland experience Sunday.

Yep it's been different this year. This thread / the Streaming Defense strategy has been an abysmal failure. 2013-15 it was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Why does everyone keep talking about Miami like they got -41 FFP? In standard scoring, they put up 7 (which was above Yahoo's projection for them, FWIW). Maybe you got a little less if your league counts points scored by the other D against your D, since Cleveland had a pick-six.

Point is, they were disappointing, but ultimately not that big a deal. I doubt they lost anyone their week

I sometimes roll with 2 def's and currently own the Giants and Pats... the combo schedule looks real nice......Are the Eagles worth replacing the Giants with?  I know Philly is better, but I think I like the pairings with NE NYG better.  I drafted NE/KC, and dropped KC for NYG last week...looks stupid now.

I thnk if you can get an elite D, that trumps just about any matchup. And Philly looks like it's elite.

 So HOU has lost Watt.

I have them in one league....drop worthy?

Or should I hold on and see what they look like after this week. They are at home vs. TEN so I think they should be solid this week. In that league I have PHILLY on the wire, and I can likely acquire them early next week if needed.

Watt out, Cushing hurt.  I've seen the Texans turn into a sieve when this happens

Its time for this crowd to start thinking about the SAN DIEGO DEFENSE .

Yes thats right, the SD defense.  I know what you are thinking, is he serious?

Well as far as I can see, they are giving up a bunch of points, TRUE.

But in week 1, they had 3 sacks and 1 INT.

 WEEK 2 - 2 sacks , 2 INTs and a fumble recovery.

 WEEK 3 - 2 sacks, 1 INT, 1 fumble recovery and a TD.

Notice had they not given up an ### load of points, we might be saying they are in the "elite" category with these types of numbers.

I am not saying rush to the wire and pick up SD, but they ARE @ home this week playing NO. I don't care for this matchup a bunch, but they could well become a good stream when plucked for the right matchup. There are a few weeks where I would have no issue starting them, if these types of numbers keep happening.

Weeks 9, 10 and championship week 16 vs.Cleveland look good to me, at first glance anyway.

This looks like a "keep monitoring their numbers every week" type scenario.

Anyone feel good about the Cowboys?  It seems to be either them or Washington for me.  I've been chasing the "who plays the Browns" squad for weeks, and feel like I've been treading water with that choice.

I had the Texans thrown in on a trade yesterday morning before the Watt news. I was also able to grab the Eagles off waivers. I'm thinking of playing the Texans this weekend and then dropping them and rolling with the Eagles the rest of the year. Thoughts?

Look up a few posts, I have a slightly similar situation.

I have Houston there, and "accidentally" found them on the wire after week 1, when I dropped MIN like a fool. Thought I would be good to go, as I wasn't sold on Minnesota yet, but now I am.  :wall:

So now Watt is out, and it looks like he won't be back any time soon. (maybe if they muster up a playoff run he returns, but that doesn't do us much good)

So thats exactly my plan, as I alluded to above.

Roll the Texans this week, and then I should be able to snag Philly over the weekend.

All aboard~!

Picked up the Lions and rolling with them against the Bears on the road.   Not many other options out on our WW this week.

I just picked up Tennessee the phone to stream with Eagles on by this week. Thing is, Tennessee defense looks pretty good in their own right and I might just keep them and play the match ups all season between them and Eagles.

I did the same with the Philly defense and dropped Terrance West in my 12 team PPR league.

Funny.  I just did essentially the same thing but dropped Jamison Crowder to get the Philly defense while starting Washington this week.

After the Dolphins debacle last week I'm done playing rent-a-defense. I was able to grab NE in one league I was streaming and I'm sticking with them ROS.

I had NE in one league, but somehow MIN D was available, so I dropped Eli Rogers and am now, for the 1st time ever, debating carrying 2x DST's b/c of how NE played last week & the fact they have CLE next week...

Regardless, I think NE is still a good D to own for the ROS

I got Philly during our waiver run this morning to use ROS, but I am looking for a DEF rental this week.  I have Bills, Jets, Skins, Rams, Titans, Cowboys, and Chargers available. Leaning Jets, but would love opinions, as I suck at this.

I'm also holding 2 defenses for one of the first time ever, snagged the Eagles off waivers and will be happy not to have to use this thread again this season. (at least for this league)

Looking at who to pick up for this week and it's slim pickings. Starting to consider the Colts against Jax in London, which would fly in the face of what I posted earlier in this thread about bad defenses are bad no matter who they play. Bortles and the Jags have been giving up a lot of points to D/STs though...I think the Jets and Chiefs have much better defenses but much worse matchups.

So yeah, I'm glad I grabbed the Eagles today.

I'm rolling with the Ravens this week. Not a lot of choices out there.

Was considering San Diego also. My opponent this week grabbed the Chargers....so of course they'll be lights out.

Cowboys don't put any pressure on the QB, which limits sacks obviously, but also doesn't force rushed throws for turnovers. They might limit the points scored against them, but won't do anything else to help the stats or make up for lost points when they do give up points. Plus they are playing San Fran at home, where they are a little better.

How about the, dare i say it, Colts? They are playing the Jags in London this week, sure they will probably give up points, but Jags are just about guaranteed a couple turnovers and sacks. A lot of their starting defense is back from injury after being out the first couple of games. That kind of gave them a bad rap. They looked good decent against a prolific offense vs San Diego last week.

Don't really like the match-up but Oakland is doing their second cross country trip in two weeks and third in four weeks.  Add to the fact that Baltimore has been very solid/consistent up to this point, albeit against three questionable teams (Buf, Cle, Jax), plus they will be getting Elvis back soon and things appear to be pointing up for them.

I have, tentatively, decided to ditch the streaming thing (went Tenn, Balt & Miami in the first three weeks and only Balt paid off at all) and roll with Balt for the next few weeks and see if they are for real or a mirage.

The options left for me are awful. I can pick between the Chiefs and Jets. If Wilson doesn't play, I'd probably pick them but if he does, I think I'm rolling with KC.

If Wilson sits, the Jets become much more attractive, but I don't think he does.

Assuming he plays, here's my rationale for WAS over NYJ. I don't claim this is authoritative, and I should probably get some numbers to back it up, but here's my general thought process:

Generally speaking, we stress way too much over Ds. My guess is that if you look at the distribution curve of defensive performances, they're in a pretty narrow band. Assume 7 points is the average in standard scoring; I'd bet that a very high percentage of scores are in the 4-10 range.

Further, the downside is limited. If you completely whiff on a D and they get torched 49-3, you maybe end up with -3. Not great, but you still only lost 10 points vs. the average D. Compare that to someone who got Fitz's negative points from the QB spot last week when their opponent probably put up 15-20.

On the other hand, the upper limit is much more elastic, since defensive TDs can make a huge difference. If your defense tops 20, that gives you a significant bump over the average D. As while TDs are rare, my guess is that they're more common than those negative performances.

So even if I think the Jets have a better D, and are more likely to turn in a league-average performance, I also think they're less likely to score than Washington is against a rookie third-stringer. In other words, Washington has a higher upside, and the downside is limited.

And yes, feel free to call me out on this Sunday night if it blows up in my face.

Washington vs cle scares me and feels like another trap game like Mia vs cle last week.  Everyone picked up Mia licking their chops to start  them against a very green rookie but instead they got a heavy dose of the X factor on Cleveland, Terrell Pryor.   That dude was their whole offense and Miami had no answer.  I don't think Washington will either.  Washington d is worse than Miami.

Thats why I went with TENN.  they're legitimately a good defense.  They've held opponents to respectfully low total pts in the 1st 3 weeks.

They're safer.

Why are these options awful? I have the Chiefs and feel comfortable rolling all season until I see them get rolled on.

Last week was a fluke with Fitzpatrick going full-####### but the KC D still had to be able to capitalize on his mistakes, which they did.

And I'm sure they'll capitalize on others as well.

Chiefs are playing in Pittsburgh after they got embarrassed by my Eagles last week.

I'm considering them as well, but that's why people think they're an "awful" option this week.

I can understand that, especially when you factor in that Bell is back (finally in my lineup!), but I don't think I'm willing to part with KC out of fear of PIT. Roeth & Co. got owned by Philly and I see KC as a comparable defense.

PIT will perform better with the addition of Bell and the fact that they're at home, but is that bump enough to drop KC? Not so sure...

I think Pitt will come out firing after being embarrassed last week and Ben always seems to play better at home. Also, Leveon being back should help the Steelers.
