Strength of Schedule question (1 Viewer)

How does Clayton calculate the numbers he gets for the Ultimate Strength of Schedule?

I had assumed that they were based purely on fantasy points allowed last year, but I don't think that's accurate since the version released yesterday doesn't match the version from a couple of weeks ago. For example, the Jets QB SOS had been 16.1, which ranked them 20th among all teams. Now it's 16.4, which ranks them 11th. I'm guessing the Favre signing doesn't affect SOS, so what happened to change it?

Very often on other sites they use last year's stats. However, I believe the way Clayton does it is that he uses last year as a base and then adjusts it based on the changes that have happened on offense and defense. For example, I suspect the the Jets opponents will face a slightly stronger Jets team this year.

changes in coaching, changes in personnel, injured players coming back, or getting injured, etc. Would you use last year's stat's for skill position players and just plug them in as your projections for this year without adjusting them? I doubt it. Same principle would apply to strength of schedule I'd think.

I don't know how Clayton projects . looking at the numbers, I would guess . Use ff points allowed with tweaks, see above replies.

Projections can include many variables.

My goals of SOS- is to guess-

1) Which low ADP Players will make a good . QBBC/WrBC, RBBC. DefBC (opp ).

2) Help? choose between two closely projected players

3) Try to see 3 or 4 game stretch when a player will face "good" opp... Yes. the playoff run of week 13 up

Things I include when making my "rank" ( I use a ranking system, rather than importing last years ff points allowed)

I rank 0-10, 0 being the bye,,haha,,,,also no team ranks a 10 thou.

The whole team is considered. off , def. coach. players.

The home Field is used

The weather is used, indoor teams.

A lot of tweaks, or gut used , Looking at how the schedule plays.

Using last years stats,, I don't try to . But yea, like all projections the 07 stats do creep in.

If you look at-http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff.php

The def ranks last year % has Tenn as the toughest def, but you will also notice the % difference last year was not so great.

Meaning to me. The SOS means even less ,,,and the value of SOS is not very high to start with.

But who cares. I want to use it anyway.

It has to be easier to pass with AD and the Oline, And.... when the weather is almost perfect.. doesn't it?

As to the question. adding a "better" QB most likely increases the Jets points base. against the baseline NFL def. thus increasing the points scored against the schedule.

The 2007 stats are a starting point. From there, I adjust based on personnel and coaching changes. Also, the recent version was an update from the original from back in May. Off the top of my head, the Jets' QB SOS became a bit easier when Jason Taylor was traded.
