Struggling rookies so far. (1 Viewer)

Yeah, it's early. Waaay early. But first impressions are huge in the NFL and some rookies are already starting to raise some eyebrows with poor showings. There are enough threads about good performances, so I'll dwell on the negative:

PLUMMETING VALUE:

WR Torrey Smith, Baltimore: Looked lost last night, and with the addition of Lee Evans, this guy went from likely starter to deep on the charts-- literally overnight.

FALLING VALUE:

WR Leonard Hankerson, Washington: Another guy who was thought to be an instant starter a week or two ago, is now struggling to catch the ball according to reports.

WR Jonathan Baldwin, Chefs: Apparently can't beat the jam, and is now hurt.

ON THE BUBBLE:

RB Roy Helu: Already starting to get the dreaded "change of pace" label, and Hightower is now in town.

RB Shane Vareen: Seems that Ridley hype may have been justified, despite being drafted later.

RB Delone Carter, Indy: I included him here only because I have heard NOTHING about him. Not a thing. While no news is good news in politics, in the NFL, that's usually not a good sign.

RB Kendall Hunter, SF: While he looks decent running, he's getting overwelmed in the blocking game, which is critical for rookie success.

Who else are you dropping down your rookie rankings? (LeShore doesn't count)

Not that I wouldn't draft these guys, but just some news that you would prefer not to hear.

DeMarco Murray.

Nagging injuries, Felix looks pretty good.

Jaquizz Rodgers

Snelling returning places him back in that Norwood role...not a good thing

I wouldn't agree on Vereen necessarily. Before he was hurt, he was impressing in camp. Fastest of the RBs. I think he will get his shot when he's healthy.

There has been TONS of VERY positive buzz about Rodgers. I wouldn't add him to this struggling list.
Good point, didn't mean it was performance based, but with Snelling there, I just think Rodgers for now becomes more entrenched as a 3rd down COP back, as opposed to the handcuff should Turner go down.

Haven't heard or read anything about Helu getting the "change-of-pace" label. Nobody knows what Shanahan's thinking, except that Torain is injury-prone, Hightower's a reliable vet, and Helu's a poor pass-protector, which is to be expected from a rookie.

so one writers baseless speculation that Helu is a COP back means everyone thinks that way now? Not sure I understand the logic. Only knock I've heard on him is pass blocking. Hightower could easily fumble his way out of the job

Greg Little has struggled catching the ball as well.

Not sure if "everyone" thinks that way, but the writer's article is entitled "The Insider", and he follows the team for the Washington Post. One has to at least consider he might know a bit more than the general public.

well if he named himself the insider, he must be...

Your team must have GREAT beat reporters, to make this comment. The Skins, and most teams around the league? Not so much. Given access to training camp and the locker room, almost any fan could write what most beat reporters put out. None of them have much in the way of exclusive info or inside knowledge.

I'm not saying that he won't get his shot, if he gets healthy, but to say he was impressing in camp is a bit generous, don't you think? He got hurt during the SECOND PRACTICE of camp, so basically he had 1 good practice, and has now missed the subsequent week and a half. I wouldn't call that "impressing in camp."

It's kind of comical to think that dropping passes would drop Hankerson or Little. Hankerson dropped passes his entire Hurricane career and Little is a guy who played 1 year of WR at UNC and then had to sit out a year. If you're dropping them for dropped passes now you overvalued them.

So it's hightowers job? Is that from the same insider?

Are we arguing over the definition of "camp"? Really? Get a grip. He "caught their eye" his 1st day then got hurt. Is that better for you or should I rub your tummy and give you a glass of warm milk too?

Well we can take Kendall Hunter off the list. Maybe Carter. Certainly raise Baldwin to the "plummeting" level...

Who else?
