Student hits teacher- Teacher fights back (video) (1 Viewer)

so they put these "kids" with normal kids in a classroom?
Yes they do.

In grade school, teachers have to deal with all sorts of psychologically damaged kids that act out in crazy ways. My wife has had a handful in the last few years and they absolutely drain the life out of her. There are kids with a para assigned to them 100% of the time. And this is in the purest of white middle class suburbia.

elementary school was such a long time ago, but this is how I remember it being back then. the schools only started having separate classes for the "special" kids when they got to middleschool, I think.

I think I would ask to have my child moved to another class if this was a daily disturbance. I thought we had special schools for these kids.

Is there anyone among us that if we did what this girl did wouldn't get the s##t beat out of us when we got home?

The fear of repercussions was enough to keep me in line. I doubt these kids have the same discipline.
Word. And agreed.

If my folks found out I was being a jackass at school, they would have come down pretty hard on me.

I'm venting a little bit here but if this is what you think, you are very naive. High schools can be even worse. "Special schools" like you stated have become many public schools. If you check the report cards schools get now, the "failing" schools all have this is common. I'd bet every dollar I have that most "failing" schools have many students like you fear. The schools and teachers are not bad, for the most part, but some students and their upbringing make it difficult to teach daily. Just venting.

My wife has a klepto in her 2nd grade class. Kid was a meth baby and has some wiring issues upstairs and is adopted by a good family. Apparently he just picks up stuff from other kids desks, the library, my wife's desk, etc. all day long. Especially candy. Apparently he is very conflicted about it and it really is a compulsion.

She also says he is super sharp and observant. She says he catches EVERYTHING that goes on, which is how he is able to keep nabbing things even with a room full of people around who know he's a thief. I told her he needs to be in law enforcement, which she told me he does want to be a policeman when he grows up. Man I hope that kid goes the right way in life.

OK, that is all....carry on.
Sounds like MAJOR impulse control issues. Not only do I highly doubt he'd be in law enforcement, he'll probably end up in jail.

That's where it happens most because that's where the parents have the money to use the legal system to force their kid to be "mainstreamed".

That school wasn't in Detroit. It was a special class for emotionally troubled kids in a suburb. That kid was a monster. One of the worst people I have ever met. Some of the kids in class were very emotionally fragile and he tortured them all day every day. He peed all over the bathroom walls, spit on kids, threw kids lunches out the window, gave kids notes with pictures of their pets dismembered vividly described the ways he planned to torture people ,etc. I saw all of this and I only observed in that class for about a month.
This is why I could never be a teacher. I would have turned that kid into a turnip. A solid vegetative coma would be a perfect outcome for a POS like him.

I can count on no hands the amount of times I have ever wanted to hit a student. For that matter, I can count on one finger the amount of times I have had to raise my voice in a serious manner

Wherever these people work, they need to quit and get a job in my school. No behavior issues and six figure salaries

I know it's not PC but damn...I really wished we had a legal system that would look at a situation like this and simply say, "That student deserves an @zz beating!"

I think the parent/guardian would like to have that happen. So they could sue the school. You know, for money.

I get what you are saying, but despite being awful, I never wanted to hurt him because what you saw was a cute 9 year old. It just didn't generate the anger that this behavior would from an older person.

Is anyone doing anything about this kid? Sorry to say, but it seems very likely that this kid will be the kid that shoots up a school later on in life. A kid like that should be labelled and removed from society. I actually mean that. Having read some of these articles about kids that become the serial killers/multiple murderers, there are so many signs it isn't even funny. I understand the opportunity and people changing, but this kid as you described will murder someone someday with a high probability.ETA: By removed, I am not talking put to death, but not in school with other kids. I have no idea how to help him, but it is a lot more than a special class. Also, are his parents around and what do they do about him?
This was 10 years ago and I was just observing for a month. The program was basically the most serious program the district had to offer. It wasn't good at all though. This poor teacher in charge was a mess as anyone would be that had to run the class. I'm not sure if he got therapy outside of meeting with the school social worker. There isn't much the schools can do. Schools don't always have the resources to really help kids that are out of the norm. As for his family, his uncle was his hero. He was in jail for killing a guy in a bar fight. He hated his dad because his dad killed his moms parents. He hates his mom because his mom turned his dad in.

This is odd.
With the seizures that cops can perform, it's a great line of work for him.

Often, yes because there aren't the resources available to do anything else. Also because of the special education requirement of "least restrictive environment." This means kids with disabilities (many of the extreme problem kids qualify) they must be the setting closest to general ed. possible. Schools get in trouble for having too many students removed from the regular classes. Many districts have had to totally so away with self-contained special ed classes.

We had our first fight of the year and it sounded wild, I missed it. A female teacher got knocked over and tackled the student while going down and a male teacher took some grazing punches to the head. Nobody really hurt though.
