A few major GTD today.
Jon Beason sounded ready to return more quickly than expected, then missed practice Thursday. He was back to a limited participation on Friday. Gut says he’ll sit out one more week, but he may go if he feels good today. Beat writer suggests this AM that Rivera expects him to play, but not in subpackages. If I had another sensible late game option and could wait until the afternoon for inactives, I’d consider Beason as a LB3. Otherwise, he’s a major risk to leave in lineups. James Anderson’s nickel snaps are dependent on Beason’s availability, so he carries some risk, too.
Justin Tuck was out there for Friday’s practice, though it wasn’t in pads, and traveled with the team to Washington. Both are good sings that he’s closer to playing than he seemed late Thursday. Have to think that Mathias Kiwanuka would see many more snaps at DE in the base defense, but that’s probably dependent on what the team thinks of Mark Herzlich.
David Hawthorne continues to be bothered by a knee injury. He was limited in practice but listed probable. One report has made it sound like KJ Wright could start over Hawthorne this week, even if Hawthorne was active, but I think the implication is that the team likes Wright and trusts him to play well if Hawthorne can’t go. Hard to read the tea leaves on Hawthorne unfortunately. I think he’ll play, but he’s absolutely a GTD. He’s another late game question mark that should probably be in lineups only if you can adjust when the late inactives and starting lineups are released. Chris Clemons is expected to play despite not practicing Thur/Fri.
OJ Atogwe was limited in practice all week, but plans to play. Reed Doughty will play SS in place of LaRon Landry.
Aaron Kampman will have a minor rotational role at best today as he continues to recover from last year’s ACL tear. More snaps for Jeremy Mincey (and Austen Lane).
DaShon Goldson is unlikely to play. Expect Madieu Williams to start for SF at FS.
Adrian Wilson, Carlos Dunlap, DeMeco Ryans are all expected to start today.
