Suppose Jayden Daniels Was A Free Agent Today. (1 Viewer)

After the DET win, his already-high stock is through the roof. Let's speculate what a Daniels free agent contract would "Command" today.

7 years/500 million with half of it guaranteed. Too much or not enough?

So you think he’ll hold up for 7 years? I would guess not.

Yeah, Commanders fans have been thru it and while I know every one of them wants to get to and win the SB...ain't a one of them that won't be satisfied from the result of this season. Going to be a hyped and fun offseason for that group.

To the extent that an expiring CBA has on length of contract terms. $70M/year with at least 85-90% of the contract guaranteed seems like a pretty safe bet.

Yeah
I would apologize to Jayden and then hold RG3 against him.
He is thin- like catch your eye type thin- and durability Qs enter my thoughts.
I would have an out.
Maybe some gaudy big deal (idk 500 but that spirit) but I would figure a way to write in a way out of it.

I bet his next contract will be record-breaking if he stays healthy and maintains this level of play, but that's a nice problem for 2-3 years from now. Today Commanders fans can enjoy Daniels in the first year of his rookie deal, while looking forward to an offseason in which they'll have tons of cap room to build a better team around him. Exactly what NFL teams are hoping for when they select a QB at the top of the draft. I'm not sure what a good alternative to the current system would be, but I'm happy that karma has finally smiled on Washington after 30+ years of pure shyte-show ineptitude.

4*/270m, $150m fully guaranteed, $260M guaranteed.

*Teams would want to go for more years, it would be Jayden who would want to keep the contract length at 4.

This would be highest APY and the highest percentage of fully guaranteed contract of any QB other then Watson. Guarantees matter, but it's not the same thing as fully guaranteed but he's have the most of any contract and again higher percentage of any contract other then Watson's.

I think I'm probably lowballing him. Obviously does not have risks of Watson, but I think that sticks in some of these owners minds of how that type of contract can crippled a franchise.

When/if he has a sophomore slump the same people that praise him will be crying foul. But also no, no one will give him that much.

Whatever it is will cripple the surrounding team. Great system the NFL has .
Not really, there are ways to work around the cap if the team is actually serious.

Correct, Dallas has been operating on a $200M annual cash budget for several years now. They care more about the bottom line than winning, which actually makes me a little sad. Washington on the other hand will do anything and everything to prioritize winning. We will spend in the margins. The league done ****ed up.

There's no precedent for second year starting NFL QB hitting free agency and its very rare in general for any starting quality NFL QB becoming an unrestricted free agent so very hard to predict. Doubly so given the bust potential young QBs have after one good year as opposed to someone like Kirk Cousins who hit FA as a well-known, demonstrated commodity. The current CBA prohibits any amendment or renegotiation of a rookie contract for three full seasons, meaning Daniels contract will probably be the best value in football for the next two seasons. If he lives up to the first year hype he'll get a monster extension at that time.

I am wondering if people are higher on Daniels right now than they were on Stroud at this time last year. What would people have paid Stroud if he were a free agent last year? Has that number changed after this year?

Way higher than CJ. Yes, CJ had the sophomore slump.

dude is a baller for sure....but when I hear things like how great a throw it was on the hail mary or whatever I feel he may be getting a few too many flowers....32+ QB's in the NFL can throw a hail mary....those are total luck and depend on what happens in the end....there is no skill to that....yet we pump up their perceived excellence because of it....people say Rodgers is the king of hail mary's but it's just because of fortune/luck....their are tons of guys who never even sniffed college football that can make those throws...

that said....Iove his composure and attitude....he may very well be legit and the real deal....may just need to see a little more....

I think Daniels showed quite a bit more this season than Stroud did as a rookie. Stroud had a very good rookie year, but I think people exaggerated how good it was.
