Survivor Pool (1 Viewer)

I thought some guys on here may have done one of these before so I thought I'd ask.

I'm doing one of those survivor pools. Pick a team each week to win. They win, you're in for the next week. They lose, you're out. You can only use a team once.

Anyone got any tips?

I avoid teams that are probable division winners early, especially ones that are expected to go deep in the playoffs (packers/pats/texans). After that I usually go on Vegas odds. Towards the end of the year I want to use the best teams in their non division matchups

My 3 rules that have served me well:

1) Stay away from road teams

2) Stay away from division games

3) Early on try to avoid the "obvious" game that most of the pool is going to select. For 2 reasons. 1) If the obvious team loses, most of the pool will be eliminated. 2) If they win, you still have a good or top team to use later.

stick with home teams and avoid divisional games whenever possible
Definitely agree with this.Also...don't try to out-think things early on. Taking a team in a coinflip type game (like taking Zona over Seattle wk 1) just so you can save the "good" teams for later in the season can often be a mistake because you never make it far enough to use those good teams you saved.I also try and avoid taking the biggest no-brainer type play of the week. If it seems like everyone is gonna be on that team, I'll go with a different pick. 1 week every year the most popular pick loses and wipes out 50+% of the people in the pool.

Good advice in the previous comments. The hard part is when you get to the final 10-20% remaining. I usually have 3-4 teams that are good or are playing good left. And that is where your planning really comes in handy. I am not usually so afraid of weather later in the season. And lastly I follow the money. If you come down to two teams to choose from find out where the money is going, and that is my tie breaker.

Every week there are at least 2 no-brainers, like you said go with the slightly less obvious.
