Survivor Season 48 -These Legs Belong in a Museum (1 Viewer)

So did Glasses Girl play her shot in the dark to use that down the line so nobody has any clue that she has an idol?
I'm guessing so, also the camera showed her looking at everyone's reaction when she wasn't safe. I think she would have played the idol if people appeared relieved she wasn't safe.
This is what Jeff said on his podcast.

I would also not be surprised if Sol tipped her off to where the vote was going, and this way Sam thinks she is still with him.

The Survivor Auction is always fun. I really like how they set it up with people earning money (except for poor Andy). I also like the execution of the person with the most left loses their vote. I'd have to pass on the grubs and the fish eye.

I was shocked Rachel was able to get the idol with seemingly a lot of people pretty close by. I really like Rachel and hope she is able to survive.

I've gone back to really not liking Andy. His bitterness towards Sierra and Sam was well founded, but how he portrayed himself was just off-putting. He now thinks he is a major player when in reality he went from being a pawn for one tribe to a pawn for another.

In the challenge, I predicted Kyle would win (I know, a real shocker) and Genevive. Also predicted that Andy would be the first to go, man or woman. Failed pretty miserably in the last 2. I was pretty happy for Andy that he showed competence in something for perhaps the first time this season. Also big props to Sue, who I still do not care for, but she dominated that challenge. Pretty impressive for a 45 58 year old.

Kyle already had a target on his back after 2 immunity wins but now even he realizes he's in trouble. But what are you going to do, not win and leave yourself vulnerable?

In one of the interviews, I told my son Sierra was going home, although now I can't quite remember what she said that made me feel that way.

I think Sol tipped Rachel off to something, which precipitated her Shot in the Dark play along with judging their reactions to see if she should play her idol.

The tribal was interesting with wondering if Rachel would play the idol (and then doing something I didn't expect) and the fact that we had a tie in which one of the final 2 were allowed to vote because the other didn't have a vote. Andy taking joy in being a "dirty player" again didn't sit well with me. Sierra was pretty graceful in exit and you could tell it really impacted Sam as well.

  • Rooting to win: Sol, Rachel, and Kyle. Moving Rachel ahead in the pecking order. It's going to be hard for any one of them to win and I think Sol might have the best shot.
  • Like the players, could root for them someday - Genevieve, Gabe, Teeny and Caroline remain. I think Caroline is playing a sneaky good game.
  • Neutral - Sam. He won't last long.
  • Don't like - Sue and Andy moved back down. I previously said Sue was the only person who if they won, would ruin the season for me. That's not true, I think Andy may be the worst. He's been inept and unstable the whole time, and is probably the least deserving person there.
Andy is making an impact on the post merge. But there is still no reason to change the opinion that many of us had after the first episode — he is our zero-vote finalist.

I think the winner is going to be one of Sol, Teeny, Genevieve, Caroline and Rachel. Genevieve, Caroline and Rachel are playing similar games and are the season’s most dangerous strategists. One woman from each starting tribe. It would be amazing if they were the final three, but that won’t happen, Caroline really wants Rachel out and one of them is likely to go before the finale.

In the meantime, Kyle better start looking for idols because he’s catching votes the first time he loses immunity.

Loved how the auction was designed with the person left holding the most money losing their vote. Also how they received their money. Nice additions.
Caroline bought the fish eyes but did she have to eat them? no thanks.

But what a haul Rachel had with the burger, fries, and idol. And she did a fine job at TC, imo. Caroline is right in wanting her gone. Of the two, I think I prefer Rachel to win.

I like Sol but don't see him winning. Really feel like it will be one of the ladies.

Agree that Kyle better start looking for idols. And Sam needs to start winning immunity challenges or he's toast.

As I said earlier, I think we can narrow down the winner to one of Sol, Teeny, Genevieve, Caroline or Rachel. All are playing well and have had favorable edits so far. As for the others:

Andy is still our zero-vote finalist, regardless of what impact he's making on the merge. This has been his destiny since his meltdown in the first episode.

Kyle is too big a physical threat and is getting targeted as soon as he loses an immunity challenge. He needs to hunt for idols ASAP.

Sam is only still in the game because others want to use him as a shield. Both of the other remaining original Gata don't trust him, and we've heard others say he's too big of a threat to go to the end with.

Gabe has been shown to be shady and everyone seems to think he should be the next Tuku to go after Kyle.

Sue is a strategic nonentity. People like her but nothing has been shown to suggest that they respect her game. Her weird comments about Kyle are probably not the kind of thing they would show from a winner unless it was someone like Tony, which Sue is not.

Another great episode, although I would have preferred Sam getting voted out.
Loved the cut of Andy complaining he can't find any money as he passes within arms length of 5-6 tubes
loved the auction and the new added twists-money back and hidden idol. would also pass on eating giant grubs or eyeballs
Rachel cutting the idol out of the tarp with the tribe sitting just around the corner was an impressive feat, I would have waited for dark or a least a different time
Sue finally performed well in a challenge but still hope she's gone asap.

I think it is neck and neck between Sue or Andy as the drag along..
Unless somehow someway they both make the final 3 :oldunsure:

When Sue drops the bomb in the final that she's 58 and not 45, I think people will hand her the title.

Dopey being unable to find even a single batch of money defies belief.

I honestly don't know how that guy finds his way back home every day (assuming he actually leaves his house)

Speaking of cartoon characters, I’m convinced Kyle talks like the kids in the Peanuts specials. He has the exact same cadence.

When Sue drops the bomb in the final that she's 58 and not 45, I think people will hand her the title.

Laugh emojis.

They did the person with the most money loses a vote before. I can’t recall which season it was when they had it last. They didn’t have the cash back part but I remember people spending all their money so they didn’t have extra left.

It was funny watching people make silly mistakes like Sam and Sierra. Sierra had $1060 and bid $800 on the first item when the next highest person was $660 and Jeff had a board showing all the amounts left. Bid $660 first or $670 and then you have $390/400 which was higher than the last couple people’s bids. I can’t recall exactly but it might have been higher than Rachel and she’d have gotten an idol. I feel like Rachel had $380. Sam screwed the pooch with the $200 one and lost his vote because of his leftover stash. Wouldn’t have mattered anyway as Sierra was definitely blindsided.

They can give the idol to whomever they choose to. In a perfect world they have a strict order on how the food prizes are presented. In a cynical, game manipulating world, they wait until their choice has the most money left and present the Hamburger and fries.

Yeah I mean...I'm glad they brought it back. But they didn't really fix it. They kinda made it worse.

Like forget the "most money left" thing - go with the no idea when it ends, the variable money is fun, and do every other item is hidden. I'd guarantee more like 8 items. And I'd let you share with one person. Makes the social part come in more. Creates odd pressures. It's like the old rewards when it was like "everyone has three lives. one at a time, go take a life." And you forced them to reveal relationships and who was where on the totem pole and stuff.

You could put an advantage in a hidden one. You could put lose your vote in a hidden one. You could put lose your vote in an open one that's REALLY good.

If you want to see the bolded playing out in today's reality competition landscape, watch The Traitors. Pretty much all the English-speaking seasons have at least one challenge like this.

Yep. Jeff pulls out the cheeseburger one whenever he wants and who knows what the stone he picked said. They never showed us.

I know they might not mess around but it’s always interesting when the person, who got the 2nd most votes, lost his vote since Jeff stopped and the other person, who was actively talked about as a threat and who they wanted to vote by a few people, got the idol.

Rachel has had a couple things 'handed' to her in the last few episodes. She had done nothing to deserve the Safety Without Power reprieve, or the full immunity idol she received last episode.
I like her, but any victory by her now seems a little tainted by manipulation.

This episode tells me Kyle is not winning. He might be getting the Xander treatment from his castmates.

If he were at all perceived as a threat, he would have been booted yesterday, the first time he wasn’t immune in the post merge. Since he wasn’t, that tells me he does not have enough social capital or strategic respect to win over this jury.

I've really enjoyed the season, but sad my guy Sol lost. I knew he wasn't going to win but I had a spark of hope that he would form a secret alliance with Rachel and they could do so damage. Rachel is a smart player and I think wanted to help Sol, but clearly saw the writing on the wall.

I can't stand Andy and now I'm convinced he will be the 3rd place no vote goat. It would be interesting if they decided to go back to a final 2 instead of 3, I don't know if they announce that anywhere ahead of the season or if the players know (I doubt they do). Seems like we've had a lot of shakeups this year so I wouldn't be shocked to see something like this.

As others mentioned, a poor choice not to take out Kyle when they had a chance (of course I like Kyle but I just don't think he has a chance to win). I think with the diversity of challenges it is unlikely to see Kyle sweep the remaining challenges to get to the finals, and he doesn't seem to be pushing hard to find idols. Sol was a strategic choice to take out, but was kind of surprised that Genevive was so tight with Rome that she stated that as the reason for targeting him. Genevive seemed delighted with herself with her "I'm so petty" comment.

I was shocked by Sue and Genevive's performance in the challenge, right up until the end. Really good showing by them. I told my son "Kiss of Death" when Kyle said he picked Gabe because he knew he could beat him. The 4 people losing votes (at least initially) I thought was another great twist, and I liked the card stacking challenge as well. I thought Sam was going to try to create more drama, but he apparently thought better of it. I couldn't believe that it looked like he picked Andy as his partner almost immediately. Perhaps he thought like Kyle that he could drag him to the end then beat him. I loved Probst's response of "That's on you" when they broke the steps.

I was surprised by the unity of the final vote because there was a lot of whispering and going back and forth.

  • Rooting to win: Rachel and Kyle. I think Rachel has a real chance to win but I hate she didn't push harder for Sol. Kyle will get voted off and I just don't think his social game is good enough.
  • Like the players, could root for them someday - Gabe, Teeny and Caroline remain. I could put all 3 of these up to the next tier and probably will once the above get knocked off.
  • Neutral - Sam. Genevive moves down probably only temporarily because I too can be petty.
  • Don't like - Sue and Andy moved back down. I previously said Sue was the only person who if they won, would ruin the season for me. That's not true, I think Andy may be the worst. He's been inept and unstable the whole time, and is probably the least deserving person there.

Agree with most of this but would move Caroline down to neutral. I just can't think of anything she's done to stand out.
Starting to get the sinking feeling that Andy is going to somehow win this :loco:

I hear you on Caroline, her's has been a subtle game. She's been a part of a lot of the strategic points of the game (the episode where she advocated for keeping the guys as meat shields, then directs the vote towards the lady she told it to). I thought her statement to Probst at Tribal Council "Listen to news, not noise" was pretty effective as well, even though she didn't have a vote. Very under the radar and I think she has a shot at winning.

I just don't see anyway Andy wins this thing :D (which of course means he will probably win). Who do you think is the last time a player as undeserving as Andy (at least appears to be) won? Natalie perhaps beating Russell? I know all winners are valid because they won a particular aspect (Natalie social over Russell, but really just because he was such a bad guy).

The most undeserving winner was the guy who won the Extinction Island or whatever it was called season. Was voted out early but spent like 3 weeks alone on the island, came back at the end to somehow win.

Yeah I think that was Chris. I would put that on the season design rather than him, he did what was in front of him. Definitely understand votes going to him as most undeserving though.

I know it is difficult to predict how people will perform under that pressure, but this continues a trend that makes me super uncomfortable. Andy is not emotionally well. I'm sure the show exacerbates it, but it even seemed how he talked about himself in the real world that he has some deep-seated issues. I hope he is ok but I also hope that he is gone relatively soon to prevent his suffering (and the viewers suffering from watching a train wreck).

This is almost exactly what I said to Mr. krista last night. This trend needs to stop, and I also said I want him gone soon so that we don't have to watch his suffering. Gave me strong shades of Bhanu and how desperate I was to stop watching him break down every week.

Yeah, that was bad. My son was saying that he looked and acted like he was a school shooter. That evil glance he gave Annik (his target) really made me think he’d snap and honestly, what could the show folks do if he grabbed a rock or machete?

Oooo, I hadn't thought of the school shooter vibe, but it seems spot on. Mr. krista said something really bad was going to happen, like he thought the guy was going to hurt someone, too. I told him nah, he's just going to quit. Turned out we were both wrong.

:blackdot:

Just finished a catch-up binge now that the merge has happened. Glad I didn't have to sit through a month of the Rome Show for sure. But really annoyed that Andy is here still. For me it's been two days and he's on my nerves. Guy doesn't blink right, he's not emotionally and mentally well. He has severe personality issues that I'm tired of seeing Survivor cast and I'm hoping they stop doing. It's not 'entertaining' to watch someone like this. It's anxiety-inducing. I'm not having fun watching his 'journey', I'm cringing hoping that he doesn't kill someone with a machete in their sleep. Dude is not right and should never have been on the show. He needs therapy.

Not the most exciting episode with a vote out I thought was pretty obvious. Teeny was really upset over Genevive's Sol blindside and I appreciated their open and frank communication. Hard to see anyone cry out there, she was genuinely hurt by it. Teeny will not stop until Genevive is gone. But her desire to get rid of Genevive pales in comparison to Sue's hatred of Kyle. That was quite the montage they put on her. It's not polite to talk about someone's looks, but Sue has clearly spent a lot of money on procedures for her vanity and that island is doing her no favors whatsoever.

The reward challenge random grouping looked like a blowout from the start, and it was. The immunity challenge however was a different story. When Jeff offered the rice for 4 sitouts, they tried the smart move to get down to 3, which Jeff dismissed. I would have said there were 4 people who had no shot at that challenge, and they should take one for the team and drop. My thoughts on the 4 who wouldn't make it were Andy, Sue, Caroline, and Teeny. Well, I underestimated Sue again and give her kudos. Unfortunately, she was up against challenge beast Kyle. I can't tell if he's a real challenge beast, or just up against some lesser players. Gabe was probably his best competition, followed by Sam and apparently Sue in some instances. Kyle will be gone as soon as he misses.

I thought he might consider what Caroline was feeding him, keep Gabe as a potential shield. I think at this point, Kyle realizes no one was going to vote Gabe if they were both vulnerable, so he might as well take out his competition. I think this is what Sam is thinking as well.

Caroline is playing a sneaky game IMO. She's all around the vote and very calm and strategic with her comments. I'm not sure if Gabe was proud of her or bitter when he said "Got a little snake in you." That's the under the radar game that can be effective. Gabe was fairly gracious on the way out but seems pretty confident he'll be back for Season 50 with his comments at the torch and then after the show. I liked him but no so sure about that.

I think Rachel may be getting the winner's edit and I'm here for it, I like her. Andy is probably going to make it to the dang finals. I can't tell if his crap stirring was effective, or if they were just following him around showing the conversations.

The final card was dedicated to Barb, who I thought was a survivor player from many years ago, but it turns out it was Jeff's mother. Touching tribute to her. I imagine that will be a big topic on the podcast, which @Pip's Invitation turned me on to. It is an enjoyable pod.

  • Rooting to win: Rachel and Kyle. I think Rachel has a real chance to win but I hate she didn't push harder for Sol. Kyle will get voted off and I just don't think his social game is good enough.
  • Like the players, could root for them someday - Teeny and Caroline remain. Moving Sam back up here. Did a good job rallying the troops. Didn't get overly emotional after his ride or die died.
  • Neutral - Genevive stays here. I appreciated her talk with Teeny but she's just not super likable. A decent player though
  • Don't like - Sue and Andy remain. They may both make the final somehow.

Interesting to see Andy working the field. Still terrible in the comp.

Wider range of cast shown this week. This is good.

It was a Teeny self reflection episode. Might have gone on too long as it had little to do with Survivor. Well put together though.

Thought the challenge was custom fit for Sue to win. Balance beam is good for tiny feet and women tend to balance better. She was steady most of the time, but the comp beast won again. Batboy takes another one and humble in doing so. Liked that Jeff mentioned he's 1 away from elite competition company/history. That raised Gabe's eyebrows.
If Kyle wasn't such a comp beast... Sue would be this season's comp beast. The little ol' lady is beating them thar youngin wipper-snappers. Add that to her dislike of Kyle - stealing her glory.

Nice and rainy at tribal makes for good television. Some shivering, some were bundled up well enough.

Really liked Jury Sol's reaction to learning that everyone gave up their Shot in the Dark for community rice. Another Survivor first.

Pretty easy vote out for the group of 4 to be knocked down by 1. Had to happen.

Podcast mentioned Jeff will radio the production team when tribal is over and he's about to be snug in a warm bed. First to check in that the production team is good as they sit in the rain all night watching the players. Then asks about the morale of the players as they prepare to be cold and wet all night.

Production team is about 400 personnel for the show. Explained the various ways / positions they are used. Pretty cool insight.

If the cast wanted to boot Kyle as soon as they could, they would have done it last week. I don’t think they see him as a threat to win. Whereas with Gabe, they did.

Andy shockingly probably has the best chance to win of the three remaining men. People (except Sue) seem to like Kyle, but he hasn’t been shown making deep social bonds or driving strategy. We got people in previous episodes saying they don’t want to go to the end with Sam and people in this episode saying they don’t trust him. Whereas Andy has been shown to be connecting with people and being a central part of the strategy in the postmerge. Notably he has allied at different times with people from all three starting tribes.

Teeny was shown giving a revenge confessional. The other two instances of that I can remember were from people who went on to win.

Sue got a serial-killer montage. The only other case of that I can remember was for someone who got to the end and lost.

Giving up Shot in the Dark for rice was an easy call. Not sure why Probst accepted it. People played the first 40 seasons without Shots in the Dark*, it shouldn’t be a big deal to play without them for a few episodes in this one.

* - this is the correct plural form, not Shot in the Darks like Probst said.

Sue is the coat tail rider that all Survivors have now and not a threat at all in challenges. That means she will probably make it to the end. You are correct the camera has not been kind to her.
