Targeting players who have already had their bye. (1 Viewer)

All 8 of these teams have already had their bye. Is going after players on these teams a solid strategy in the long run.

I dumped an excellent kicker this week (Graham) in order to pick up Kaeding. Why? Well, first, Kaeding is a good kicker, but second, and more importantly, he has already had his bye. I don't need that headache of dealing with a bye week replacement.

Taking this a step further. Is it solid strategy to make a move for guys on these teams?

Would you trade someone from your team, for a slightly lesser player from a team because he has already had his off week?

Example would be something like trading K Jones, for J Jones. Maybe you feel as though Kevin Jones has slight more value. You think he will outscore Julius, but just marginally. So, the calculus you would need to do, would be is K Jones + bye-week filler < J Jones. If so, I think you need to make a trade like that.

Discuss who you would target

One thing that's often overlooked is the psychology of trading and that a lot people let the player's fantasy rank skew their idea of their value - even if they've already had a bye and it's illogical to downgrade them for it.

So yes, it's a good idea to target players who have already had their bye, especially if they haven't had a standout game yet.

I typically do this strategy in one league and not the other. The one league where there are not roster minimums, i.e. start 1 QB need to have 2 on your roster, start 2 Rbs, need to have 4 on your roster, this is not a factor.

In my other league where you could carry 18 QBs if you were so inclined I do employ this technique. During the draft I will target team defenses who are good and have ealry bye weeks. That way once their bye week has passed I can dump the other defense and ride them through the season knowing I will not lose them to injury or bye. I do the same to a certain degree with kicker even though kickers can be lost to injury although it is rare.

As for position players, trading for a player who has already had their bye is nice for peace of mind but I would rather have the better player and work around their bye week. I would imagine that if Tomlinson had a week 8 bye week this year you would still trade for him. The opposite applies for Aaron Brooks. The guy could never have a bye week and I still wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.
