TE Cade Otton, TB (2 Viewers)

Cade Otton caught 9-of-10 targets for 81 yards and two touchdowns in the Bucs’ Week 8 loss against the Falcons.

With Mike Evans and Chris Godwin sidelined, Otton functioned as the Bucs’ top pass-catching option and made the most of his opportunity. Otton how has 17 catches for 181 yards and two scores over his past two games and appears to be a top tight end option in the deleted Tampa offense. Baker Mayfield looks to Otton first on critical plays, including near the end zone. He has a chance to be a top three or four option in Week 9 against Kansas City.

I'm going to have to see what the first read percentage for Mayfield in this game was, but like I said in the Game thread the O seemed to be heavy "target the RBs and TEs".

Played Worthy over him. Realistically either should have won it for me but Worthy can’t get an easy walk in TD. But Otton was the better play. Screwed up

I am surprised Otton wasn’t utilized more earlier in the season - he looks really good. Smooth route runner, finds soft spots in coverage, can move.

The Coachspeak Index
#Bucs OC Liam Coen on Cade Otton:

“He’s tough as nails, he’s smart as heck. I would love for my son to grow up to be Cade Otton. That’s the kind of guy that he is.”

Thought this guy would be my saving grace. Last week killed me.
Evans limits his ceiling.
Definitely, but the majority of teams have an alpha. I'm in a dynasty league and he's a bench player. He'll be on m bench but I think he is just as good as Shakir and I like his matchups in weeks 16/17. There's also bad weather to content with thi time of year and it's Buffalo. Lol

It was a good year, Cade but I'm gonna have to let you go. Thanks for those 4 weeks mid season. Really saved my ***.

He was really good for that stretch last year. Overall numbers were ok. He's attached to a good QB and offense. He's going to have a hard time getting great volume just due to all of the talented pass catchers they have.

Probably a TE streamer in a lot of leagues.

Solid in TE Premium but limited ceiling.

I have Njoku starting and Likely on my bench. Otton is on the waiver wire. He's been invisible thus far, with 2 goose eggs out of 3 weeks. But he's playing a full time role, with 90% of the offensive snaps. The TB WR's are decimated and down to Egbuka, Shepard, and possibly a returning Godwin this week. Seems like a great week for him to finally jump out and get some catches. Thoughts?

I think he could bust out, as that is what he did last year when Evans went down. Very risky though.

I believe Detroit is supposed to be good vs TEs but Otten has been great when given the opportunity, Mayfield is playing great and the Bucs have no one else to throw to. This game currently has one of the highest projected point totals of the week.

Am I too high of Otten this week?

How high are you?

RT Heck is going to need help against Hutch. Now, that could be Payne Durham though so they can use Otton in the pass game, which they’ve done the last couple weeks. Durham has been a beast blocking so that tracks.

It’ll also depend what the Lions do. Their secondary is depleted. Tampa’s WRs corps is depleted (pending Mike). Detroit may deploy their 3 LB set to eliminate the shorter passes and make these smallish receivers try to beat them down the field albeit against street DBs.

Otton has been playing every single snap so he’s got as good a chance as anyone to have a decent game, which he has generally done when Baker doesn’t have his big boys.

I'm wary but it seems like there is a lot of potential here.

If I heard correctly, FF Today said on their WW show yesterday that Otten had something like 2 of 3 games of 18+ ppr points in the games he played where Evans & Godwin were missing.

My biggest concern is the Lions key in on Otten and dare the other pass catchers to beat them.

Still, it seems like there is a lot of upside here.

You rase a great point about blocking which is why I am asking here. He's ranked pretty low this week on FantasyPros so I figure I am missing something.
