TE Donald Parham (1 Viewer)

Chargers coach Brandon Staley said TE Donald Parham (hamstring) aggravated the same hamstring he'd hurt earlier this year and will be out "weeks."

Parham might be a candidate for injured reserve with that wording. The Chargers passing game distribution didn't really have much condensing left that could be done, but Gerald Everett should benefit from Parham's continued absence in fantasy.

Snakebitten so far. He’s a talent. Can’t stay healthy.

The Chargers designated Donald Parham (hamstring) to return from injured reserve.

The Chargers now have 21 days to officially activate Parham from injured reserve, but he can resume practicing. Parham went down with a hamstring issue in practice before Week 9. He was eligible to return from injured reserve last week. The oft-injured tight end will play a reserve role in LA's offense once active.

You miss that much time from head related stuff it's time to hang em up. You're not going to stop taking hits. Especially at that position.

Chargers released TE Donald Parham.

After making some noise in the 2020 XFL season, Parham signed with the Chargers and earned a spot on the 53-man roster in training camp. Through three seasons with the team, the 6-foot-8 tight end has hauled in 40 passes for 479 yards and seven scores. He'll draw some interest as a legitimate red zone threat due to his size and athleticism, but it's unlikely he finds himself in a fantasy-relevant position.

Chargers re-signed TE Donald Parham.

Parham was a restricted free agent heading into the offseason, but he and the team were unable to come to an agreement on a new deal, allowing the massive tight end to hit the market. It doesn't look like he found many suitors, so he will return to LA, likely on a one-year deal. Parham has been an occasional red zone threat for the Chargers, tallying seven touchdowns in limited playing time over the past three seasons. He will return to a similar role in 2023.

“He didn't get a chance to show himself last year, but we think that that guy's a weapon,” Staley said. “In 2021, one of the reasons why we were such a prolific offense was because of the role that he had in it. We're excited to get him back.”

That was earlier May or June.

Where are we at on Parham? Time to give up or time for his break out?

IMO if all Chargers offensive players are healthy, Parham will be at best #7 in the target pecking order, behind:
  1. WR1 Allen
  2. WR2 Williams
  3. RB1 Ekeler
  4. WR3 Johnston
  5. TE1 Everett
  6. WR4 Palmer
Of course, it is unlikely all of those players will stay healthy for the entire 2023 season. However, the Chargers have a very good WR5/6 in Jalen Guyton, so if healthy he would slot in above Parham in the event of an injury to one of these WRs. An injury to Everett or multiple injuries to this group could create some opportunity for Parham, but IMO that's what it would take.

That quote from Staley references Parham's role in 2021. In 14 games in 2021, Parham had 20/190/3 on 27 targets. He has been with the Chargers for 3 seasons and played in 33 games, averaging 1.2 receptions and 14.5 receiving yards per game. Obviously not fantasy useful.

Furthermore, Parham could not stay healthy last season, missing multiple games due to a hamstring injury and multiple games due to a concussion after he came back from the hamstring injury. He also had a concussion in December 2021, so he had two in less than a year. If he gets another one in a game, who knows what that could mean for his ability to play.

I think in real NFL life, Parham has a useful role to play if he stays healthy, but it would take an unlikely set of circumstances for him to be fantasy useful in 2023. It is true that Everett is a UFA after the 2023 season, so I suppose the best dynasty case for Parham would be to have an injury free and productive season and go into 2024 as TE1. That feels like a stretch to me.

I don't want to damper the sunshine but his concussion history and the extensive time he's missed from them has my expectations tempered long term.

He's so darn TD dependent. His size makes him an absolute beast at the GL, but if the offense can't get down that far, he's not a threat.

It makes him an impossible start aside from a bye week guy and hoping you get lucky that week.
This is an offense that will get a lot of goal line looks, but once Eck is back, he should get most of those. 6'8 on the goal line is pretty tasty

I had a choice of Everett or Parham. I chose Everett. 12 targets to 7. Parham has just cashed in with 3 tds out of those 7 targets. Impossible rate to keep. Everett is more part of the normal scheming of the offense. Everett just seems part of the chain moving portion of the offense, while Parham is the nobody is open option. In end who knows? The tight end position, outside the top guys, is nearly impossible to predict. In this debate we can save some time and flip a coin.

I can't believe this kid didn't pan out. He's so big with some speed to him and nice hands, and seems used to having defenders draped all over him.
He even had one or two 2 TD games like "look at me" but...nope.

I was wondering why on Earth a Donald Parham thread got bumped.

He has a lot of trouble staying on the field. He also seemed to be more of a WR than TE. I could be wrong there...I can't say I always watched him blocking, but when I did it was not pretty. Sometimes we only catch the bad stuff. I think the new regime values blocking a lot more, so if he was poor that would easily explain.

I believe the Broncos signed him to their practice team.

They did. I went over all the signings last night on my phone at 4 A.M.

It might have been the lack of sleep, but I thought of Greg Dulcich and Sean Payton, whom I almost just called Gary, because hey, 4 A.M. and awake.
