TE Dynasty Rankings (1 Viewer)

1.Antonio Gates, still the best though the gap is closing quick.

2.Kellen Winslow, has more upside than Gates, but seems to need a surgery or two every off-season, can't imagine he'll be in the league when he's 30.

3. Jeremy Shockey, ultimate buy-low guy, Eli's progressing, the Giants are on the rise and Shockey probably isn't considered a top-5 TE by most.

4. Chris Cooley, like gates he is his team's go-to-guy, good for at least 700-7 every year.

5. Jason Witten, I have him and I kinda think he outdid himself this year(90 catches really?) I think he'll regress back to his career mean.

6. Dallas Clark, scores often, yards are inconsistent though, Colts could lose him in 09'. this is the dropoff to the 2nd tier TE's.

7. Heath Miller, scores but doesn't do much else seems like a 400-8 type guy for a while.

8. Vernon Davis, great talent, doesn't seem to have football instincts, Martz doesn't use TE's much, though with San fran's WR, he might have to.

9. Ben Watson, underrated, he's as likely to pick up the slack as anyone when Stallworth leaves.

10. Todd Heap, forgotten man, Ravens seem like a rebuilding team though so redzone chances could be limited.

11.Greg Olsen, really like this guy, has yet to establish himself so now could be the time to strike. Likely will be the 2nd leading receiver on the Bears.

12. Owen Daniels, kind of a poor man's Witten, AJ gets the attention at the goal-line, 600-6 is doable.

13. Tony Gonzalez, likely to be passed by Bowe as team's go-to-guy, not many TE's make it past 32. Likely has one final top-5 season left in him.

14. LJ Smith, pretty solid until this season, value may increase if he leaves Philly.

15. Alge Crumpler, passed by Roddy White as team's go-to-guy, is already 30 but he is still a factor, could bounce-back with more QB stability.

Tony Scheffler needs to be in your top 15 somewhere.

49 549 5 in 12 games. Has definite chemistry with Cutler, too.

Kind of forgot about Scheffler, not sure how high he'd go though, I'm concerned that his numbers/looks will go down with a healthy Walker around.

But yes, he should have made the list

Two quick tidbits...1) Mike Martz played TE in college2) Mike Martz was the TE (...and WR/QB) coach for the Rams from '92 thru '96Some will argue Martz doesn't use TE's in his offense. Others will argue Martz has never had an elite (...or even good) TE during his stint as the Rams HC and Lions OC. I will simply argue he knows that the TE position does indeed exists.

Come on now, Javon Walker's best days are behind him.Scheffler is the 2nd option in that offense throwing the ball.

Scheffler's numbers also didn't start improving this season until Daniel Graham became injured.

That's simply not true.Scheff was hurt to start the season. He came back week 5 (one week before the bye), and played sparingly that game. His first real game this past season was week 7, and he did just fine from that point on. Graham is no threat to him at all.I really think Scheff will (easily) be a top 10 TE next season. And top 5 is not a huge reach. Guy can play.

Yes and Brian Billick was considered an offensive genius before he went to Baltimore. If Billick happens to land another HC gig, I would expect his more recent past was a better indication of where he would be headed rather his days with Vikes many moons ago. Similarly the fact that Martz had a background working with TEs as recent as 96 is interesting to note, but seems to lack relevance to me given the past 8-10 years.

Not sure I agree with Witten regressing back to a career mean. He was utilized under Parcells in more of a blocking scheme after their line was banged up. He and Owens compliment each other very nicely, and barring further OL injury, I can't see Phillips/Garrett putting him back in a predominant blocking role.

I prefer Zach Miller to the last 2. He really came on at the end of last season and was Russells main target. I see this happening for many years. I think he is as good as Olsen in the end for FF reasons

Percentage of team's receiving yards in 2007

Gonzo (KC) - 36.8% (you have him ranked #13)

Gates (SD) - 32.7% (#1)

Winslow (CLE) - 29.7% (#2)

Witten (DAL) - 25.9% (#5)

Davis (SF) - 24.6% (#8)

Cooley (WAS) - 22.7% (#4)

Shockey (NYG) - 22.2% (#3)

Scheffler (DEN) - 20.6% ( - )

Daniels (HOU) - 20.5% (#12)

Miller (PIT) - 18.4% (#7)

Clark (IND) - 16.8% (#6)

Heap, Clark and Crumpler should all be higher.

The knock on Heap is that he is always 'hurt', and though he's always listed as questionable, he always plays. Great talent.

Clark is an integral part of that offense. Finally showed what he's capable of. Should be a little higher, especially if Harrison retires.

Crumpler I believe was injured and showed what he can do (still) the last game of the season. Great red zone threat.

Heap didn't 'always play' last year.....

well, since it's dynasty, lets include some rooks who could make a difference:

Fred davis: USC

John Carlson: ND

Martin Rucker: Missouri

Kellen Davis: Mich St

Predicated on where they wind up, but If Seattle drafts one of those rook TE's, I'll be looking pretty hard at him

Heap has played in only 6 games twice in his career, last year being one of them.

Thanks for the feedback...updated for 2-19

1. Antonio Gates, still the best

2. Jason Witten, Garrett seems to love getting the ball in his hands.

3. Todd Heap, I'm starting to think Cam can help him regain past glory.

4. Chris Cooley, One of the few redskins who will be even better in a west coast offense.

5. Kellen Winslow, His career is looking like its going to resemble a really long game of operation.

6. Vernon Davis, Somebody's gotta catch the ball for SF.

7. Tony Gonzalez, 2 more stud years is worth more than 5-6 decent years out of others.

8. Tony Scheffler, looks like Walker will be gone, Scheff should benefit the most.

9. Jeremy Shockey, too injury-prone, has top-3 potential though

10. Dallas Clark, just can't help but think 11td's were a fluke. Might be gone after 08'

11. Heath Miller, Not enough yards or cacthes to be higher, scores too often to be lower.

12. Donald Lee, comes off a good year and GB likes him as evidenced by his extension.

13. Greg Olsen, could be higher if Clark is cut

14. Alge Crumpler, still solid, Carolina would be a great fit for him.

15. Owen Daniels, kind of a poor man's Cooley.

Witten should be top 3, easily top 2. Owen Daniels should be top 7. More than likely, Vernon Davis, Ben Watson and Alge Crumper are ranked too high.BTW, I doubt highly that Tony Gonzalez slips down to 13. He's at least a top 5 or 6.Edit to add I saw you made some corrections. Now you have Winslow too low and Owen Daniels would be the SOD ranked like this.

10. Dallas Clark, just can't help but think 11td's were a fluke. Might be gone after 08' Clark's TDs in 2007 were a fluke. Shockey is grossly overrated and always has been. His mouth is what keeps his profile high. I like Scheffler, and Gonzo still has it! Gonzo is still a top 4 TE simply because he is such an integral part of the offense. Gates still has a long way to go before he can match Gonzo's production. Brother caught 99 damn balls last season!

11. Heath Miller, Not enough yards or cacthes to be higher, scores too often to be lower.

15. Owen Daniels, kind of a poor man's Cooley. pretty reasonable assessments from Miller through Daniels. I'm still tentative about the PGH offense moving to a pass-oriented style. That's not how it was built and that's not what Tomlin is known for. The OC sure favored Ben in the red zone, but I think that might be a product of a piss-poor offensive line.

I think everyone who is above Winslow will have similar stats and play longer than K2.You might be right about Daniels but I think he could lose TD's and looks if they get a consistent running game and AJ stays healthy. That he is rated where he is speaks to the unprecedented amount of depth at the TE position.
