TE Johnson: Re-signs with Saints (1 Viewer)

Dead sexy
Report: Saints re-sign TE JohnsonNEW ORLEANS (TICKER) —The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a one-year contract with tight end Eric Johnson, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Tuesday on its web site.Financial terms of the deal, yet to be announced by the team, were not disclosed.Johnson played 14 games for the Saints last season, catching 48 passes for 378 yards and two touchdowns.“I just want to be more of a playmaker this year,” Johnson told the newspaper. “Something I’ve always done in the past is catch every ball that’s thrown to me, and there were some times I didn’t do that last season. It’s something I haven’t really dealt with.”After spending his first six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, the 28-year-old Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Saints last March. He became expendable after the 49ers drafted tight end Vernon Davis in the first round of the 2006 draft. The Saints certainly have depth at the position - the team re-signed veteran backup Billy Miller last week, and former starter Mark Campbell is is ready to return after missing last season with a back injury.
This is not much a shock. He was actually pretty effective too.

Good signing. I really like Johnson, he is a pretty underrated TE IMO. He needs to stay on the field a bit more though.

He's played 13 and 14 games over the last two years, respectively. The injury prone knock doesn't seem entirely warranted any longer, imo. He's 3 years removed from his best season - 82 rec/800/2td - but I don't think we'll see numbers like that from him ever again. However, he's a solid weapon in an offense that likes to throw the ball. He's an under-rated option at the TE for FF buyers...

What do you guys make of the Jermey Shockey rumors and Sean Payton supposedly inquiring about his availability from the Giants. I'm just wondering what Shockey would do in that offense, a better one than NYG's.
