TE Jonnu Smith, PIT (2 Viewers)

That’s a question mark for a reason. I don’t know and was asking :)

If it was a period, I might have likely provided a link
Well, the word "still" certainly means he was in a boot at some point recently. So basically just a misleading post.

Vrabel says Delanie Walker (ankle) is progressing. Feels the time off last week was good for him. Projects being able to see what his status will be after today. Didn't seem optimistic that Walker will practice today for #Titans.

There is readily available video of him in a boot last week. Do your own homework. Maybe try “Delanie Walker Boot” on Twitter. Voila! The post isn’t at all misleading.

Sorry you have Issues with punctuation.

Stoked with his production this week. Quickly extinguished as i dropped Fells for him. Even more so and KC thought covering Aaron Jones with a LB would work different on the 8th try...

Delanie Walker (ankle) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Walker hasn't played or practiced since injuring his ankle in Week 7. We'd consider him a long shot to suit up Sunday in Carolina. Jonnu Smith—the recipient of nine catches for 142 yards over the past two weeks—will remain an appealing streamer for the duration of Walker's absence.

Jonnu is looking like a viable option again in week 9

I'm thinking of Flexing him with Ertz as my main TE in my PPR league.
I'm thinking of playing him OVER Ertz. In the end, I probably will not do it.

And will see Ertz go 3-28, Goedert get a TD, and J. Smith go 5-55-1.

Jonnu Smith caught 3-of-5 targets for 18 yards in the Titans' Week 9 loss to the Panthers.

The three-catch performance was Smith's third straight, though the yardage was a disappointment after he averaged 71 the previous two weeks. With Delanie Walker (ankle) sounding nowhere close to a return, Smith will maintain streamer appeal for Week 10 vs. the Chiefs.

Anyone selling/buying Jonnu as a long term play?  I have him in a few dynasty leagues because most of mine are 2TE.  Thinking of selling with some trade deadlines coming up.

I have always considered him a long term play. That term is beginning to mature now though. I do think this could be his job next season.

The Titans offense doesn't inspire anyone and I am not sure about the coaches keeping their jobs and for how long. They still haven't solved the QB problem, so how that plays out will have a big impact on how valuable Smith might be in the offense next season.

There is uncertainty.

I think Smith is a good player who can thrive with new coaches and new scheme however that plays out. His potential for fantasy mostly related to the quality of QB play.

I do not see Smith as a top 3 type TE for fantasy. But with enough opportunity he should be in that TE 4-15 group.

Anyone watch the game? Curious what the heck took place here yesterday.

CAR was middling against TEs and TN was in comeback mode, yet nothing.

Confidence shaken now and need an Ertz replacement. Gotta think Tanny will be throwing again against KC in catchup mode...especially of Mahommes is back.

Guy really stunk it up for me yesterday over other options I could have played.  Really seemed like a good play, not sure what happened.

21 snaps in first half, awful game where everything went wrong

Delanie is looking like he's coming back

Not sure  about Delanie. Think he got out of his boot yesterday and is now just practicing. He may need another week.

Jonnu Smith caught 4-of-6 targets for 30 yards in Tennessee's Week 10 victory over the Chiefs.

It's the second time in the last three games that Smith's led the Titans in targets without Delanie Walker (ankle) available. His team-high 18 looks in that span are four more than rookie A.J. Brown's seen (14). Backup TE Anthony Firsker (3/36/1) hit pay dirt in this particular matchup, but Smith remains the stronger fantasy option of the two as he continues seeing more opportunity weekly. He'll remain a low-end TE1 streamer until Walker is fully cleared.

Jonnu Smith caught 3-of-4 targets for 63 yards and one touchdown in the Titans' Week 16 loss to the Saints.

Smith got the scoring started with a 41-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He was eerily quiet the remainder of the day and briefly left the game to be checked for an injury before quickly returning. Smith has 60 yards and/or one score in three straight games and gets the Texans again in the Week 17 finale after hanging 117 yards on them in Week 15.

Jonnu Smith caught 3-of-4 targets for 38 yards in Tennessee's AFC Championship loss to the Chiefs.

Smith’s third year in the league began much like his last two as he stayed glued behind Delanie Walker on Tennessee’s depth chart through their first six games. The 35-year-old’s season-ending ankle injury (only one year after initially suffering a gruesome broken ankle) inevitably opened the door for Smith to finish as fantasy’s overall TE17 with career-highs in targets (44), catches (35), and receiving yards (439), including 29/342/3 from Ryan Tannehill from Week 7 on. With MyCole Pruitt and Anthony Firsker both expected to hit the open market in March, it’s plausible Smith returns in 2020 as the Titans' de facto No. 1 tight end. He should be viewed as a tremendous late-round flier pending Walker’s status.

He looked good the last half of the season and now is the time to hold, not sell.  I must admit I was getting tired of holding him on my dynasty team, but I expect him to be a top 10 TE next season.  I personally feel Walker is finished, but if he isn't, then we will have to be patient another year.

Meh. Walker has missed most of last two years and has played 240 snaps to Jonnu's 1,328 in that span. Walker has not been an obstacle for him for most of these last two years.

Delanie is not returning. He sprained his ankle, spoke out, so Vrabel put him on IR. There are stories out there....Vrabel way too serious about silence and what to say

OC Arthur Smith, former TE coach, loves to switch his TEs. Jonnu has played blocking TE, receiving TE, fullback, AND is a WR in their big package.  This is what he does during a game to adjust- more than anything else.

It's fantastic for football- he's answering a DE getting in or a LB always able to penetrate or a DB that's having his way with the WR on wide runs.

It's awful for fantasy. The weeks Jonnu needed to be a burst of blocking, Anthony Firkser vultured his catches. The weeks where Humphries had an edge (and enough WRs healthy), Jonnu's snaps were way down or he was an inline blocker.

Jonnu didn't start at any position last summer. He was overcoming an injury himself. Also though, Delanie was a better receiver and Pruitt a better inline blocker. It stung him but he responded great so who cares.

Pruitt is a free agent they supposedly intend to re-sign. Firkser was re-signed. Blasingame was added midseason as a FB, but he took more (small amount) snaps at RB than FB which might indicate that they weren't that confident in him as a blocker whereas they were in Jonnu at FB.

"Jonnu's catch" came as he ran a route from the blocking TE spot.

The Titans have begun each of the last two years claiming they didn't need a FB and then each time they went to the FB, Henry ran all over the NFL. (FINALLY!!!) They are planning to always have a FB now. It is possible they add a TE rather than a FB because this would allow Smith to do all his shifts and position switches he loves to do. Despite being nicknamed "Big Blasingame" he's a bit smaller than Henry and doesn't have that big bruiser nose. He's got nice feet laterally and nice hands. Blasingame could develop that nose and be an integral part or be cut as limited usefulness. They can't wait til camp to find out though.

I would watch the Titans offseason for TEs signed and the FB. You want to hear that a FB has established himself and thus Jonnu won't have to do that role. It would probably be good to to hear that they added a blocking TE that "everyone knows" is a good blocker. If you don't get these news items, I wouldn't push Jonnu into some top 10 TE spot for FF.  Further, don't discard how they spent a lot on Humphries and couldn't utilize his strengths much and plan to.

Most people won't follow things this closely, so you could conceivably add Jonnu and then trade him (similar value) mid-summer if the news isn't favorable. Most will just consider him the starting TE.

This is absolutely not a young backup replacing a pro bowl veteran, let's plug him into his #s type situation

Titans TE Jonnu Smith said he and QB Ryan Tannehill have been working out together at a privately owned local park.

"We're just working on building that chemistry," Smith said. "It'll give us a great advantage. Him knowing my speed and me feeling how the ball comes out of his hands." Continuity could be an issue for a number of players and teams given the absence of on-site OTAs and minicamps, but Smith and Tannehill may be able to buck those concerns with reps. 25 in August, this upcoming year will be Smith's first as Tennessee's starter in place of veteran free agent Delanie Walker. Any extended opportunity following the fourth-year pro's smattering of 3.4 targets per game from Tannehill last year would be a welcome addition to his repertoire in 2020.

For starters no more Delanie Walker.  Smith is a great athlete for the position and showed some promise last year with 35 receptions / 439 yds / 3 tds.  I worry some about his hands and he was labeled a body catcher.  He could also add some more weight without affecting his athleticism.  I believe he could definitely hover around the 10 - 13 range for TEs next season with possibility for more.  There is always risks for TEs, but I like the way the Titans use their TEs.

Between Smith, Brown, and Henry, the Titans have some crazy big, athletic skill players.

I worry about Smith getting consistent targets in this offense. Walker wasn't available much the last 2 seasons, and Smith was still hit or miss.

I probably shouldn't have started my response with Walker because he wasn't the main point of my post.
Yes and  I do appreciate you answering the other stuff I just got a sore point for people who keep referencing Delanie's absence as a reason.

I think for him to break out or at least reach an area he becomes a somewhat reliable option for fantasy he needs one of the two to occur:

1. Injury to Derrick Henry which would force Titans to throw more or an injury to AJ Brown so when they do throw they'll need Jonnu more.

2. Spend the offseason working on ways to get him more involved and try to play to what he does best like run after the catch. I feel pretty sure they are doing these things, they seem like a good staff, but for him to be this breakout guy or again someone I feel like I can put some trust any increase in involvement has to be extremely significant and my forecast is for more of a mild growth.

He is a mismatch and if the defense is overloaded to stop Henry while also shading over for AJB, Jonnu should have one-on-one coverage and big plays should be available.  He isn't going to have a high volume (but neither is AJB) due to the Titans philosophy but he should get his chances each game.  Not a bad upside and his price is really cheap at the moment.

Were these things not all present last year?
