TE Olsen A (Dynasty) Gem..... (1 Viewer)

Initially, I was unsure about how G.Olsen projects in the pro game over the next few years, given the learning curve and adjustments that young pass-catchers must endure as they start their NFL careers. But with just the limited sampling (preseason action) and the positive reviews coming out of Chicago regarding this guy, I've come to my own conclusion that Olsen will be Top 5 at his position within 2-3 years, and maybe even pushing for Top 3 honors on a consistent basis.

The hand-eye coordination and separation that I've seen from him reminds me a lot of a guy named Brent Jones from 49'er lore, and trust me, as a Raider fan I don't like comparing guys to 9ers over my beloved Raiders, please forgive me Dave Casper but you just weren't fast enough. And speed is what will truly enable Olsen to enter into the elite. He also appears to have a very good understanding of the passing game which I believe could hold back a guy like Vernon Davis, his possible lack of "instincts" in the passing game.

Gates has been virtually the undisputed King of TEs for the past few seasons, and Tony G. sat atop the throne for many seasons before that, but over the course of the next few seasons, the TE position will be very deep and "top heavy", IMO, with a new name added towards the top, Greg Olsen. I don't know how long guys like Heap (seemingly always banged up), KW II and Crumpler (both guys have troubled knees) can hold up, and Shockey is a train wreck in waiting, on and off the field, so I'm projecting the Top 3 TEs over the next 4-5 years to be Gates, Olsen, and Vernon, in no particular order.

The kid's got talent up the wazoo. The offensive scheme and QB play are what will be limiting his numbers. I'm not sure he's on the right team to be putting up 60/900/6 within 3 years.

C'mon....with sexy Rexy tossing the rock....he is luck to post 30/200/3td's and that after he gets a full grasp of the offense.

Chicago has one pass threat and that is the deep bomb to Berrian, much like Losman to Evans.

Chicago is a run first team, so Olsen will be used mainly as a run/pass blocker, and then even if he shakes off a defender, he is at best the 4th option. By which time Rex panics, and either issacked or throws it O.B.

60/900/6......that happens next year at the LATEST. Don't be the last one to the party, my friend.......

Is he even starting yet? He definitely has as much talent as any TE in the league right now. There are no true threats to take catches away from him if he starts. Berrian will be better this year, but seems limited to running the deep routes. Muhammad is getting older by the minute. I can see Grossman going to Olsen a lot, but 60/900/6 is a lot to ask for....

Every year there is a new TE that people get so excited about after the combine. Olsen may be great on the field, but his metrics are worse than Dallas Clark, Ben Watson, Winslow and Vernon Davis-all former first round TE's. The NFL TE position has a lot of good players after Gates and Gonzo: Heap, Crumpler, Witten, Davis, Winslow and Shockey. Then they have several pretty good players- Watson, Miller, Clark. Next there are reasonably talented guys in OK situations or guys just in good situations- LJ Smith, Zach Miller, Tony Scheffler, Owen Daniels, Bo Scaife.

So- I just don't see Olsen as all that valuable.

In one dynasty league I traded him for Santana Moss. Of course I also have Gonzo and V Davis :football: I agree that Olsen is a very talented TE, but make no mistake about it, the Bears also like Desmond Clark. As long as Clark is in Chicago it will affect the fantasy success of Olsen. Of course it doesn't help having Rex Grossman as your QB.Edited to add that the TE position hasn't seen this much depth in a long time. There will be plenty of viable TEs on the WW in 2007.
