TE Rob Gronkowski (1 Viewer)

Took him at 2.4 (16 overall) after drinking the Bloom cough syrup, recommending him 6th overall.  I wanted the statistical edge at TE more often than not and he's only provided that 1 of 3 times. I'm normally big on taking a TE early in my format.

Will Edelman help clear the second level?

Will Josh Gordon pull the safety away?

What put me over the top was the re-negotiated contract.  It's filled with snap count % which would drastically dip if he misses time, catches, yards, td's.

Here's hoping he plays Thursday.
Edelman and Gordon might help.  Maybe. The biggest help Edelman offers is that Hogan can move back to his more natural, vertical, field-stretching role instead of playing Edelman's role.

I'd be willing to bet the injury is more score related than the actual injury. NE was crushing Miami, why risk him?

Agree. He obviously has a bit of a sore ankle. He's not been practicing much. The game was way out of reach. No reason to do anything but let him get ice on it and start rehabbing for the short week.
Add the fact that NE plays on Thursday night - quick turnaround. Yes to Edelman coming back and Flash stretching the field. NE will be firing on all cylinders soon.

Gronk was listed as DNP on today’s practice report. Except the Pats didn’t practice and the league made them file a practice report anyway based on what he probably would have been listed as had they held practice.

There must of been a reason why Gronk was contemplating a retirement. He could be just done with sacrificing his body at the price he is.
Yes that’s the reason.

So will he play tonight?
Yes. I never thought it was all that much of a concern or his status in doubt. Schefter tweeted he will be active and will play.

That being said, I would not expect Gronk to play every snap and run a ton of routes. I think they will use him when they need him and they will have him blocking a fair amount.

If they get a decent lead they may elect to give him more rest in the second half.

Disagree somewhat.

This is a prime opportunity for NE to start getting their offensive groove on.

While I agree they may limit Gronk's stats, I do think they will want see what this offense is capable of with Edelman back doing his Edelman things, Gordon on the outside opening up the middle, Michel pounding, J. White dragging LBs outside, and Gronk in the middle of the field.

With KC up next week followed by the CHI D, they need to figure out how to get out of first gear.

It's a Thursday night game. They barely practiced this week. They took Monday off and had a walk through on Tuesday. If anything, I think they take 10 days to work on things and then unveil it against the Chiefs. There's even talk that Edelman may not play much as they haven't practiced with him yet. I am not expecting a big not on offense in terms of getting everything all systems go.

I'm tempted in trading Gronk for a top WR.  I told myself the last time he was on my team, I wouldn't pick him again.  Yet I fell into the trap again this year.  When he's on, he's the best in the lg.  But I haven't seen any consistency from him in the last couple of seasons. Not sure why I do this to myself.

I actually agree with this, and can see it playing this way.  I'm curious with Indy having so many injury issues, do you think NE may take a half and just play some "backyard football" with the offense to begin that "practice" concept tonight?  Maybe for a quarter or two, just to bring Gronk and Edelman into the flow again.  Then see NE use the running game to finish off the win?  I don't see Indy putting up much of a fight tonight.  Luck has no weapons on offense.  Their defense isn't the stoutest.  This isn't your mom's Peyton Manning led Colts.  I see it as an extended practice for NE.

Who are you going to plug in at TE for consistency?

Thats my trouble.  I'm not seeing much out there in regards to consistency.  So do I trade him and his potential to upgrade my WR position and grab WW darlings each week to fill the TE spot?  That's where I'm hesitating.  I'll likely wait on Gronk to show up, and hope it's during the playoffs.  Just hate looking at his injury status and notes every day, then to see him only play half a game and mainly be used in blocking schemes.  Frustrating.

Good luck. I have been trying to move him in 2 PPR leagues & absolutely no one wants him

Seems like the definition of selling low.

I see nothing but upside from here for Gronk.

And I have to think all this media talk on how he "looks slow" and has "lost a step" is going to motivate.

Anarchy...good points. Still think that offense wants to leave this game feeling, "Yup, we're heading in the right direction."

I’m holding.  I’m fine with a slow start it will pick up.  Plus been working on potential RB trades past few weeks and I’m just done with all the low ball BS asking for offers on Gronk would create.

Gronk limited, and half of Indy’s team coming through the tunnel on crutches probably tonight.  Indy’s a tough underrated group, this could have been a really cool game if it had been scheduled on a Sunday so the players could recover.

Thanks for the lack of concern for your players and giving us worse football to watch NFL.  What a joke

Ah, the annual is decoy Gronkowski better than your ww options question.

Fwiw, the Colts are missing several if their defensive backs tonight.

Practice?! We’re talking about practice?!

Guy I’m playing this weekend stashed Edelman, and of course Indy’s slot corner is hurt.  Wouldnt surprise if he has a 2TD 120 yard welcome back party tonight.

But at least that’d pull some coverage off Gronk moving forward.

probably going to start vance macdonald over him in one league and start gronk in the other less important one.

def don't sell on gronk - more like a hold.  they're big favorites so can see the run game and getting edelman/gordon more involved as a bigger priority.

Some key points: both Brady and Gronk have very incentive laden contracts this year.  Gronk’s incentives include games played, tds, catches, yards.   These 2 are going to wake up and light up the league now that the receiving corps is back.  Brady loves Gronk and vice versa.  Don’t think for one second they haven’t discussed doing whatever they can to help each other hit their incentives this year.

Couple that with the fact that this is very likely Brady and gronks last shot at a Sb ring, and I can see how they had a team meeting before tonight’s game to send the message. And the msg is “it’s now or never gents.  Last chance to cement the dynasty and go out with a bang.  Let’s ####### DO THIS!”

And it starts tonight vs the colts with Edelman back, Gordon, Gronk, michel, white.  This is the week the pats explode and don’t look back.

Jmho

Gronk’s contract is the only reason I drafted him in some leagues.

Wait, Gronk out? If not, how are y’all even considering these lesser options?
  • TE22 overall in Weeks 2 through 4.
  • More competition for targets with Edelman and Gordon in the fold.
  • Battling injury.
  • Poor game script with the running game expected to eat the clock in the 2nd half tonight.

If you drafted Gronk in the second round so you could totally revevaluate him after a 4 week sample size you should have drafted somebody you believed in

2nd round draft picks (by ADP):

13 Julio Jones

14 Dalvin Cook

18 Devonta Freeman

21 Rob Gronkowski

23 Jordan Howard

24 Joe Mixon

Should we be blindly putting all of these guys in our starting lineup without taking into account injury, situation or performance?

Did week 1 not happen?

He's TE7 in weeks 1 through 4 (you know, like, all the games).  He's even higher if I looked at weeks 1-3 for some arbitrary reason.

Feel free to keep chasing points from a month ago.  I'm looking at the current situation and forward.

I own Gronk in several places and consider him to be a great play ROS as long as he's healthy.  But on the few teams where I have another viable option, I'm going that direction this week.

Like all the discussions in the SP, a lot depends who your other options are. If you also have Cook, then you probably aren't thinking of starting Gronk. But most people that drafted Gronk probably didn't draft a great back up, so they will likely ride with Gronk.

Awaiting official game status. Torn on whether to start him tonight as everything I have read says if he plays, he will be "limited" (in my 0.5 PPR league, TE counts as a WR). That said, it is Gronk, and I will feel like a dunce sitting him if he goes off on my bench.

i've had Gronk in dynasty so i've followed him pretty closely. very hard to get a read on situations like this. I've played him before in a similar situation and he's gotten 2 catches for 20 yards. and i've sat him and he's gone off. Really does depend on alternatives. Don't think it's a simple as just starting him. But it's really a gamble either way. could start him and get burned, could sit him and get burned.

dont own him at all anymore, but why the hell would you not start him if he's active?

Pats running up the score tonight. It's primetime

Out of that list I’d start Julio, Freeman, Mixon and Gronk as long as they are active for a game yes.  They are also the only guys on that list I’d consider using a second round pick on.

Thats all I’m saying.  In the second I’m picking guys I believe in enough to play if they are active.

-58 o/u in atlanta vs pitt game.

-i picked up macdonald and big ben can't hit the deep ball this season.

-atlanta LB's are out or banged up

-edelman back and gordon to get more looks

-pats will blow this game out

is that enough reason?

You could also easily be argued that he’ll have less defensive pressure focused on him

Well, he is coming off an injury.  It's a short week, which means Pats could easily limit his involvement and give him the longer break to get healthy -- particularly if Pats get a lead.

Pats now have Edelman and Gordon as passing options (the converse is, of course, that they can help distract defenses and leave Gronk in one-on-one coverage.

I can see pros and cons either way.

In the league I have him, we combine WR/TE, so he is not a no brainier by any stretch.

This is a terrible analogy.

FWIW, Gronk was last “healthy” in about 2010.

Gordon is hurt himself and is no guarantee to be a full go. However, as a Gronk owner, I want Gordon and Edelman to do well. The Pats offense has struggled which has limited Gronk’s key RZ opportunities. Also he’s getting doubled almost every play. He needs someone to take attention away from him.
