ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson underwent successful surgery on his torn ACL on Monday.

The fact that Hockenson didn’t have surgery until the end of January makes it possible he begins the 2024 season on the physically unable to perform list. Either way, the veteran tight end begins his road to recovery today after suffering the devastating knee injury on Christmas Eve.

Is it common to wait 4 weeks for ACL surgery? Seems odd.

Seems like they always need to wait for the swelling to go down, but not sure if 4 weeks is on the high side.

Having surgery this late would be surprised if Hock is ready before Thanksgiving if then. Every player is different but not expecting much from Hock next season.

Sports Casting: It takes around 9 months for NFL players to recover from an ACL injury and up to 12 months before they can return to 100% to full activity and play ball .
 
Not much news on Hock. Went zero TE in my draft, but have an IR spot so was able to get him pretty cheap and plug him into a holding pattern IR spot.

Last article I read was late September or October. And even then… not sure how well he’ll play with Darnold.

But will be looking for updates on return date.

I’d expect the “after the BYE” predictions to hold true.

Unfortunately that could be week 7, or week 9. :shrug:
 
When is coach saying he's going to play? I believe under new IR, dudes can sit out for 4 weeks and then come back. My guess is that he's a Week 1 IR guy, yeah? That doesn't work for me.

I’m not sure I buy it, as week 6 they have a bye. And imagine two additional weeks of rest would be a bit more cautious.

But, either way seems to put him on a recovery path to contribute.

Having Darnold throw him the ball is another question in and of itself.

Agreed - unless the team is struggling badly and he's way ahead of schedule, I don't see them bringing Hock over to London for one game and then having a bye.
 
Might be different if my league didn't have 2 IR spots but I'm less concerned about when he comes back than I am that he comes back as a TE1 this season. First he has to make it back all the way or close enough, then he has to overcome the drop in QB from Cousins to Darnold.
 
Did a little digging on Sam Darnold Tight End Targets and it's not great. Granted Darnold has thrown for over 3,000 yards only once so nothing is going to look great. Hockenson is easily his best TE target he's had, disregarding Kittle. Not sure how much meat is on this bone, and may be hard to tell in those first few weeks, as I'm a Vikings fan and couldn't even tell you off the top of my head who's starting behind Hock.

NYJ 2018: 94 Targets to TE, 61 Receptions, 688 Yards, 5 TDS (Herndon, Leggett, Tomlinson)

NYJ 2019: 43 Targets to TE, 35 Receptions, 327 Yards, 5 TDS (Griffin, Herndon)

CAR 2020: 59 Targets to TE, 41 Receptions, 368 Yards, 3 TDS (Griffin, Herndon, Wesco)

CAR 2021: 67 Targets to TE, 38 Receptions, 368 Yards, 1 TD (Tremble, Thomas, Sullivan, Thomas)

CAR 2022: 77 Targets to TE, 50 Receptions, 517 Yards, 3 TD (Tremble, Thomas, Sullivan, Ricci)

SF 2023: Not really much data to play with

3 of their first 4 are against last year playoff teams. Then the Jets defense with the addition of a healthy Rodgers? Vikings season may be close to done by their Bye with no need to rush Hock back.

Exactly what I thought in my first redraft a few weeks ago. Got him late and was able to back him up with Kmet 2 rds later to start the season. I think those picks were rd 10 and 12.
 
Stashed. With Darnold lighting things up, and this D on fire, Minny is making a run here. Add Hock to the mix and they are going to continue to be a problem.
 
So do we think Hock comes back in week 7 and is his old self sooner rather than later?

Or do we think he’s washed and production mirrors the droop off we’re seeing in let’s say Mark Andrews?

I don’t think anyone knows the answer to that, including Hock himself.
 
Hoping he gets activated this week and comes back healthy and productive. Could use the help at TE where my makeshift streaming replacements have been underperforming the league average by 50% YTD.

My Goedert wants him back sooner than later too. Which is unfortunate, as I thought I was going to be able to be patient starting him and seeing how he eased in.
 
Supposedly Hockenson was practicing on Monday to some extent. I am so curious when the Vikes plan on activating him.

Say he is cleared for this weekend, are people waiting to start him or with TE this season, you'll put him in right away?

I have a Goedert/Hock combo. So you know where I stand. If he can’t go. I’m likely forced to stop Goedert. Which I think is okay if I’m under the assumption Hockenson is my starter the rest of the way.
 
I have Pitts in a 0.5 PPR. Although he's been respectable the past couple weeks, his early season production is unforgiveable.

I too plan on starting Hock likely going forward, but I was curious if others would be jumping on board as well.

Considering ive been rolling Likely out there until this past week when I took a goose egg with Goedert. Im activating him and starting him if he plays.
 
Honestly a little surprised he's out. I thought week 7 was the target all along, with the bonus that it was against his former team.

What I have heard is that if it were up to Hockenson he would play.

It's not and they are keeping him on the shelf another week.

Guessing better than Kelce...maybe a McBride level as a floor. Good offense and defense so he should have alot of targets and chances.
