TE/WR integration rule question (1 Viewer)

~OMM~

Footballguy
A new rule has been proposed in a $ league being run in Eugene, Oregon. The rule is to basically make TE's into WR's and treat them all the same. Which, of course, would mean teams wouldn't have to draft a TE at all. The guy that proposed the rule mentioned things like 'coaching philosophies' and 'average catch of TE's". It is a PPR league and I think that also went into his idea. Now we will be starting 3/4 WR/TE's instead of 2/3 WR's and 1 TE.

I didn't like the idea for some reason and a few other coaches have issue with the rule change also. Can you think of any reasons why this is a good or bad rule change as we would like outside views on the subject. Seems to me it takes away some strategy from the whole process and makes things a little too simple. Thanks for your input.

Is that guy stuck with a crappy TE? Does he have a really good roster of WR's with one guy always going off on the bench? That's the only reason I see someone wanting to do this.

Yep, changes strategy at bit. A decade ago it seemed like there were a lesser amount of qualitly startable TEs, now not so much. Changes like this - IMO - tend to help the lesser owner. BYE weeks are also easier as well. Roll with it and take advantage if possible. Some owners will forget about TEs altogther, perhaps this is where you may gain an edge.

They tried to do the same thing in our league saying TEs don't always play every down. Neither do QBs, RBs, or WRs.

Just add a flex position for RB, WR, TE but I would keep the TE mandatory....IMO

Thanks for the input guys. If anybody else has any strong feelings or input, please post....thanks.

We integrated the two positions a while back for a few seasons mainly because outside of 3 or 4 guys, the TE position was almost as useless as K or DEF. With the emergence of the TE position in the NFL, we segregated the two again.

For basis purposes, it's a 12-team league and we start 3 WRs and 1 TE and 1 Superflex (QB/RB/WR/TE).
