According to former Washington safety Matt Bowen, the Skins are now running a lot of Tampa-2

I saw that Gregg Williams really liked some aspects of that coverage late last year and was already using some of it then. It may have been part of the reason they aggressively pursued Fletcher. I was wondering if that was the reason behind McIntosh's impressive boxscore in Week 1, but I hadn't seen much of it in practice during the past two games. In those two games I've seen parts of, it's been Landry in the box and Washington up at the LOS regularly on base downs and a lot of 4-2-5 on passing downs. Though it ended quicker than I had hoped, that's an excellent article about the T2 defense. I'll have to remember to check out the rest of Bowen's work. Thanks for posting it.

ETA: Just looked at last week's game again and I might have underestimated the impact here. The Skins had Washington off the LOS on non-nickel downs about 40% of the time. A lot of those ended up being running plays so it's hard to say what the coverage call was, but I might have dismissed this after Week 2 too soon. Hopefully, I'll get another Washington game in Week 5 to see for sure.

They're running a lot of Cover-2 and Cover-3 this year, mixing that in with blitz schemes. It's part of an evolution in Williams' scheme, I guess. He'll also have the CB's in man coverage with a Cover-2, so it's really all over the board.

The guys who I'd most like to have from this defense on my fantasy team would be, roughly in order: Fletcher, McIntosh, Landry, Carter, Taylor, Griffin, and Washington.

Here's yet another update, post-Sean Taylor:

For a while this season the Redskins were almost strictly a Cover-2 defense, rarely blitzing. But when injuries hit, and then Sean Taylor’s death, the coaches created more pressure by varying schemes.

Against the New York Giants, the Redskins focused on last-second alterations in their front or secondary to confuse quarterback Eli Manning. Last week, they used eight-man fronts, sometimes using four linebackers and other times using a safety in the box. The corner play has to be good for that to work; it has been.

It also helps that safety LaRon Landry, like Taylor, is versatile. His speed enables them to let him roam the deep middle alone. Also, he’ll occasionally start in the slot, slide to a linebacker’s spot then drop deep. Few safeties have the speed to pull that off, but it helps disguise coverage.
