As I understand it (and havent the new NFL reporting rules been discussed enough on here?) the injury report is NO LONGER subjective in terms of coach putting what he wants (i.e. Brady - Probably, shoulder when he is 100% fine and practiced fully). The injury report is now based upon how and/or how much a player participates in practice. So, perhaps they wanted to just rest Gates, or hold him out of some drill for some reason not relating to Gates hurting. By rule, he is listed as probably because he missed a certain portion of practice, but he did not miss due to any injury so the "reason" he missed was simply "team decision"
