"team decision" (1 Viewer)

As I understand it (and havent the new NFL reporting rules been discussed enough on here?) the injury report is NO LONGER subjective in terms of coach putting what he wants (i.e. Brady - Probably, shoulder when he is 100% fine and practiced fully).

The injury report is now based upon how and/or how much a player participates in practice.

So, perhaps they wanted to just rest Gates, or hold him out of some drill for some reason not relating to Gates hurting. By rule, he is listed as probably because he missed a certain portion of practice, but he did not miss due to any injury so the "reason" he missed was simply "team decision"

So, along with the new reporting rules, they also changed the terms to "Probably, Questionably, and Doubtfully"?

Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates was a first-time addition to this week's injury list. He took some reps off, but said he wasn't hurt. The Chargers listed "team decision" for his sporadic practice time. Gates said after practice that he was just letting other tight ends get extra work.

It just goes to show that as flawed as the old reporting system was, the new one really isn't any better

I think the point is now the coaches don't get to manipulate the report and say whatever they want. The report is based upon some "equal" set of circumstances for all teams. But yeah, it pretty much sucks, also. Just for different reasons.
