Team management strategy: dropping players (1 Viewer)

Due to an error during my draft, I am forced to drop a player in order to pick up a kicker (yeah, stupid mistake).

I posted a question in the AC forum asking specifically who I should drop, but I wanted to pose this as a more general question here, as I think I got burned last year due to my personal thoughts.

When having to decide between two players to drop, are you more likely to drop a backup RB who could become extremely valuable if the starter goes down with an injury, or another player (in this case a WR) who may only be an occasional spot starter?

My thinking is that if the backup RB does get that opportunity, it could be lightning in a bottle. To me, that is worth the risk of carrying the RB on the roster throughout the season.

Last season, I had several "backups" that I was just waiting on an injury to occur to the starter, and it never happened, leaving me with wasted roster spots, and a very unsuccessful season. I think my problem was that I had too many of these players, leaving me thin for true starters.

Do you guys prefer to roster these types of RBs (and not as handcuffs for your own starters), or go with the spot starters?

It really depends what backup RB you're talking about. There's only a couple imo who would be the feature back if the #1 went down. The rest would just be a timeshare with the other backup's.

Gerhart

Dixon

Ringer

Scott

Not sure if there are other good ones.

I didn't want to list the specific players, to avoid be accused of rephrasing my original question from the AC forum, but in my situation it is Donald Brown vs. Mike Williams (TB).

You answered your own question. Handcuff your studs and don't worry about keeping backups but instead use your roster for somebody you know is going to start (like a kicker!).

It really depends on the depth you have at each position. Brown needs an injury to crack your roster. MW is a starting WR, granted on the Bucs, but still... and he has looked good. If your bench is light be aggressive. Keep MW.
