I'll start off by posting my projections to get us going. The idea is for others to post their own projections as well, or to comment on the projections posted by others.

Overall

Brandon Marshall: 71 receptions for 875 yards and 5 touchdowns; 5rushes for 28 yards and 0 touchdowns.
Seems awfully low for Marshall. He's averaged 102 receptions and 1236 yards the last 3 years.

He now has a QB that can make any throw and a very good running to go along with that - I don't understand why you're projecting him so low?

So a major upgrade to the offense in Marshall yet they throw for only 65 more yards on 23 less pass attempts. In addition, the RBs will have 26 less carries and 175 less yards.

Why do you think the offense will get worse with a year of experience for Henne and the addition of Marshall?

Looking at last year's stats, you are basically projecting no improvement at all for the Dolphins Offense. Considering the improvement I think we will see out of Henne as he matures in his second year starting and the talent Brandon Marshall brings to the team, I've got to say I strongly disagree. I don't see how you expect Brandon Marshall to do that much worse. You are giving way too many receptions to the RB position.

however, everyone should temper expectations for Marshall. no way he catches 100 passes this year, and i'd guess less than 90 as well.

something in the ball park 85/1250/9TDs

Please report to the supply tent where you can obtain your flak jacket.I'm reposting this little joke because I was lambasted for suggesting 80/1200/8...very similar to what you have. If Marshall were to catch 100 this year I would be pretty surprised. No Miami WR has ever done this to my knowledge. And that was with a HoF QB named Dan Marino for 15+ years.

has any WR on a Bill Parcells team ever caught 100 passes? I know he's the GM, but Sparano is his disciple and the team has been built the Parcells way. Terrell Owens' best seasons in Dallas should give us a clue as to Marshall's ceiling. he is, after all, "Baby TO."

2006 - 85/1200/13

2007 - 81/1350/15

I doubt marshall will match those TD numbers, and he isn't quite the vertical threat that Owens was, but that gives us a good indication for receptions. I'm not sure why, but Marshall has never caught more than 10 TDs in a season (last year). In fact, his last three season Marshall has had 307 catches with only 23 TDs. that's got to be one of the lowest TD percentages in the league among elite WRs. I don't get it. It's almost Wes Welker-ish, but Marshall is 7 inches taller and 45 lbs heavier. It could be the scheme in Denver (although that scheme changed from Shanny to McDaniels) or it could be Marshall.... or of course a combination.

Owens averaged about 15 yards per reception in those two years, while Marshall has gone from 13 to 12 to 11 in the past three years.

put all this in a pot and mix it up:

83 receptions, 1,120 yards (13.5 ypc), 10 TDs (5 year average of Owens and Marshall)

The yards per reception should increase a bit due to Henne's strong arm, and Miami's strong ground game leading to play-action over the top.

ETA - MOP did u notice your yardage indicates a 15 ypc, something Marshall achieved only once - his rookie year on 20 catches? is there a reason you think he'll be used as more of a deep threat this year? Miami WRs as a group last year averaged 11.3 per.

I want to talk about that. Jake Long and Vernon Carey are top5 for book end Tackles in the league, in fact I might even nudge them into the top3. That means Henne should have some time in the pocket. He is going to be able to deliver the long ball. I've seen Marshall catch passes downfield, it's not like h can't. Plus he can go up and get a ball in traffic and draw flags which are almost as deadly sometimes. When Miami threw the ball downfield or deep last year Ginn dropped the ball, although I always play the MNF game where he burnt Revis and the entire NYJ secondary. Marshall doesn't drop a lot of balls that are thrown in his area. People are sleeping on Henne, I think he will be one of the most improved players in the NFL this year. Marshall is going to speed his progress along.

I also like Marshall after the catch too. I think 1100-1200 receiving, 7-10 Tds, and receptions somewhere in the 80-90 range, but I can't see 100 balls right now.

Clady and Harris are just as good a pair of tackles, and Culter has as much arm as Henne. I can see your point if we were only looking at 2009, and blaming it on Orton's noodle. But Marshall only averaged only 12 per in 2008. that year the Broncos shuffled RBs as usual but they were effective as always on the ground.

I don't see what Miami offers that Marshall didn't have in 2008. While i agree that Marshall can catch balls down field, he just seems to be exceptional in the mid-range. almost like a TE playing out wide, able to catch anything thrown within his wingspan.

contrast Marshall to Vince Jackson. Virtually the same body-type. most anyone would agree that Marshall has more "pure" talent than Jackson. But the one area that Vince certainly has the edge is the long ball. YPC the last 2 seasons: 17 and 18.5.

I guess you're attributing Marshall's track record to the schemes he played in. It's certainly possible that the Dolphins want to add a vertical element to their offense and acquired Marshall to do that. but more likely i think Marshall is the kind of player he's already shown himself to be. I'll be surprised if he blows his career YPC out of the water this year.

BTW... i looked up that play on youtube. Henne had over 4 seconds before he threw the ball, and there was still no one near. he could've waited another 2 or 3 if he wanted. maybe i'm wrong about all this....

That youtube clip is cool, definitely the one I was referring to. I think Marshall will be thrown to downfield when need be. It isn't gonna be Devonne Bess, Hartline is more 10-15 yd out guy...we'll see.

I do want to say that the early word is Hartline is starting opposite Marshall. Bess in the slot or WR3. I have no link, just the whispering woods in Davie.

Here's what I got:

QB

Chad Henne: 300 of 500 passing for 3500 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions; 20 rushes for 40 yards and 1 touchdowns.

Chad Pennington: 0 of 0 passing for 0 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions; 0 rushes for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Pat White: 11 of 20 passing for 120 yards, 1 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions; 20 rushes for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB

Ronnie Brown: 210 rushes for 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns; 10 receptions for 85 yards and 1 touchdowns; 2 of 5 passing for 30 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.

Ricky Williams: 160 rushes for 740 yards and 5 touchdowns; 10 receptions for 75 yards and 1 touchdowns.

Patrick Cobbs: 5 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns; 2 receptions for 18 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Lex Hilliard: 5 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns; 5 receptions for 80 yards and 1 touchdowns.

Lousaka Polite: 40 rushes for 130 yards and 1 touchdowns; 0 receptions for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

WR

Brandon Marshall: 90 receptions for 1185 yards and 10 touchdowns; 4 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Brian Hartline: 80 receptions for 1040 yards and 7 touchdowns; 0 rushes for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Davone Bess: 35 receptions for 380 yards and 1 touchdown; 0 rushes for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Ryan Grice-Mullen: 2 receptions for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns; 2 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Other People: 17 receptions for 157 yards and 0 touchdowns; 2 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

TE

Anthony Fasano: 30 receptions for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Joey Haynos: 15 receptions for 125 yards and 1 touchdowns.

Kory Sperry: 15 receptions for 125 yards and 1 touchdowns.

A little high on Hartline but agree that people have no idea how nice he's going to look lined up opposite Marshall. Hartline will be open all the time. I thought he was coming on towards the end of last season, very excited about him in 2010. I see him more in the 50-55 reception range, 650-750 yds, and 4-6Tds.

:goodposting:That is a huge improvement for Henne, Hartline, and Ronnie Brown.Henne having that good of a TD/INT ratio and yardage would be a large jump up.Hartline...well that's a joke....if the Dolphins have 2 1000 yard WR's......I would be shocked.Ronnie Brown has had 1000 yards once in his career....has had that average once in his career....and now after yet another injury...you expect that....wake up from your dream.

If you add Pennington's and Tyler's passing yards to Henne's last year (because he will be starting QB this year and you can't predict injuries), I am only predicting a bump of 200 yards for Henne. 2nd year of starting and the addition of Brandon Marshall make that a conservative projection if anything. You have a point on the TD-INT ratio -- both of those numbers are likely to be closer to 20.We will see about Hartline -- he had 30 and 500 last year as a rookie and only started 2 games. I (and I think a lot of other people who follow the Dolphins closely) believe he will be the starting #2 receiver this year and, therefore will be on the field A LOT more this year than he was last. As was pointed out by MoP, he came on some towards the end of the year. And this year, he will have Brandon Marshall on the other side of the field, often drawing double coverage.Likely that Hartline gets 80 and 1040? Probably not. A possibility? Absolutely... I certainly wouldn't be shocked.I don't think anybody would be "shocked" if BM goes over 1000. And as far as projecting 2 Dolphins receivers over 1000, to be fair, it's not like I have them both at 12 or 13 hundred -- I have them both barely over 1000...Not to nitpick, but Ronnie Brown has never had 4.75 YPC (what I projected). The one time that you mentioned where he had at least that, he had 5.1. The rest of his career has been pretty consistently at 4.4. The reason for the increase is 2-fold. 1) I generally don't factor injuries into my projections - if you believe Ronnie Brown is fully healed from his injury, which I believe all reports indicate that he is, then you have to think he is capable of 1000 yard season. The 2nd reason for the increase in YPC is the offseason additions of Incognito and John Jerry (and the return from injury of Donald Thomas). I don't know, maybe I am a homer, but I really believe our run blocking will get a little bit better this year (and it was already REALLY good last year)...

Bess will get his catches, he's a great safety valve.
In what sense? How many receptions do you think he's gonna have?
surely he'll have more than he did his rookie season which was 54 (4/game). Last year he had 76 (4.75/game). He's a safe bet for at least 3 catches any given Sunday and some weeks he'll have more. I think 65-70 is being conservativeHaving Marshall will only open things up for Davone. 35 of his 76 catches were on 3rd down Even if he only plays in passing downs, he'll still be targeted frequently when in those sets. IMO, he's one of the better slot receivers in the game and the pressure should be off playing against nickel CB's.I'm not sure Ronnie will be himself after another injury. Ricky is another year past 30. I think this is the year Henne grows up as the Dolphins rely on the passing game a lot more.

For those that are not in touch with any of the beat writers and everything else going on down here let me catch you up to speed.1. Hartline has been projected as the starter by almost every beat writer down here. He will line up opposite Brandon Marshall and Bess will slide down to the slot where he belongs. He will be in on 3rd down and passing situations. 2. Bess was quoted in the last week as being basically left out in the dark. He said the coaches are not telling him anything but that he wasn't too worried...yeah right. If he wasn't concerned about less touches he wouldn't have said a word. People need to understand that Miami is not a passing team. I am of the opinion that Marshall will not reach 100 receptions again this year. Somewhere in the 80-90 range perhaps but Miami is not suddenly an air attack. Hartline had 35 as a rookie, surely his receptions will inch up some. Fasano had a down year but he will bounce back. Brown and WIlliams will get touches. The Wildcat formation is still going to be used. There just are not enough balls to go around. I bet Bess has a hard time hitting more than about 50 this year. Honestly, start adding the numbers up, there simply won't be enough to warrant anything close to where I ahve seen him drafted. Bess should be a later round guy, not going in the single digits.

To back up MoP on Hartline, here is a recent article:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in...ano--henne.html

Brian Hartline: I predict he will win the starting job opposite Brandon Marshall. He is bigger than Davone Bess, faster than Greg Camarillo and he can play all three WR positions. He's a smart guy. He's mature. He gets it. He has shown reliable hands. No, he is not a burner. But he did run track in high school and I believe he's fast enough to hurt defenses when their focus is on Marshall.

This is the second Miami beat writer to suggest Hartline as the starter opposite Marshall

Tweaking my projections a bit... I still feel strongly about a few things. 1) Henne will see a big jump with a full off-season as the undisputed starter and with the addition of Brandon Marshall and a slight improvement in an already top-5 offensive line; 2) As others have pointed out, Brian Hartline will be the #2 receiver with Bess in the slot:

Chad Henne: 300 of 500 passing for 3500 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions; 20 rushes for 40 yards and 1 touchdowns.

RB

Ronnie Brown: 210 rushes for 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns; 30 receptions for 255 yards and 1 touchdowns; 2 of 5 passing for 30 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.

Ricky Williams: 160 rushes for 740 yards and 5 touchdowns; 30 receptions for 225 yards and 1 touchdowns.

WR

Brandon Marshall: 85 receptions for 1135 yards and 9 touchdowns; 4 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Brian Hartline: 60 receptions for 840 yards and 6 touchdowns; 0 rushes for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Davone Bess: 35 receptions for 410 yards and 1 touchdown; 0 rushes for 0 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Ryan Grice-Mullen: 2 receptions for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns; 2 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Other People: 4 receptions for 67 yards and 0 touchdowns; 2 rushes for 20 yards and 0 touchdowns.

TE

Anthony Fasano: 30 receptions for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Joey Haynos: 15 receptions for 150 yards and 1 touchdowns.

Kory Sperry: 15 receptions for 150 yards and 1 touchdowns.

not much love for camarillo going around in here.
Do you think there should be?
kind of. he was the #2 receiver in the offense last year behind bess. he's not sexy but people seem a little too quick to forget him.
And Miami signed Brandon Marshall, they drafted two WRs last year and Brian Hartline looks like he will get the nod at #2, Bess slides to #3...what kind of expectations would you project for Camarillo? Short of a rash of injuries I don't see him getting on the field that much. He was fine 3 years ago when we didn't have anything but times have changed and he is not the future in Miami, sorry.

I agree; this is the only scenario I see where Camarillo gets any kind of consistent playing time. In fact, I would suggest that Camarillo is sticking around only because Turner has yet to show anything. If Turner actually becomes a legitimate receiving threat this year, Camarillo may be packing his bags. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and he has been a dependable receiver, but I think his time in Miami is almost up.

Disagree.

Hartline...is our #2. Bess and Camarillo will split slot duties.

Camarillo did not drop one pass last season.....not one. He is cheap and will be fully recovered from his knee injury in 2008. For fantasy purposes....he is a non factor (barring injuries to Hartline or Marshall).....but he will take away any percieved value you may have of Bess (and I love Bess as a player). This guy is a blue collar "bring my lunch pail" to work kinda guy. He will stick around again this year.

Turner will be inactive most weeks again barring injury.

Not bad - certainly more realistic than the original post in this thread.IMO Sperry emerges as the #1 TE this year

I don't disagree that Camarillo is a good player, reliable, a hard worker...but do you really need two guys to share the slot position all season? It's not like the slot receiver in the Dolphins offense plays every down. Now I could definitely see Camarillo sharing some time with Hartline, but again that's not going to provide him with much of a role.

Regardless, Camarillo is a good security blanket this year in case of injury; he can quickly step up and fill a role. But if Turner shows promise in camp and practice, you'd have to expect he would be given the opportunity to play over Camarillo. I don't expect Turner to show anything, but Miami isn't keeping him around on the roster just to be inactive on game days.

I'm just trying to be a realist. Camarillo's a solid player, but in my opinion he has the least potential for an offensive role of any of Miam's receivers in 2010.

i don't disagree with this statement. i just think that everyone is a little too quick to bury him in favor of hartline, bess, and others. heck, fasano is getting more attention in this thread despite doing less than camarillo for 2 years there. i don't think the miami WRs - outside of marshall - are good enough to make camarillo an afterthought just yet. marshall is the only guy who will be out there every single play. just playing devil's advocate here really.

I think Marshall will be the only wr you can comfortably play every game this year even in 16 team leagues. The others will take turns having decent games. Camarillo will be a UFA next season and Bess will be a RFA again.

What do you guys expect from the MIA DEF/ST this year?
I like them as a 2nd D with nice potential. Nolan did a lot with less last year in Denver. Lost Porter and JT, but added Dansby and a bunch of defensive help in the draft. Have 3 solid CBs in Will Allen (coming off injury), Sean Smith and Vonte Davis (both high picks in 2009 who started and showed a lot of promise last year). Yeremiah Bell makes plays at safety, but the other safety spot is very much in question. Cameron Wake should start at ROLB, and if he can get after the QB like he is supposed to, he could make an impact. They have high hopes for 2nd rounder Koa Misi who will probably start at LOLB. Dansby and Crowder looks like a very solid ILB tandem. They have a deep DL, and will probably have a nice rotation there. NT is a small concern with Randy Starks moving from a great season at DE to start at NT.For fantasy purposes, I think the DL and Cam Wake will generate a nice pass rush. Dansby is a playmaker, and the secondary should be strong if they can get average play from the 2nd safety spot. Nolan should make the best of the talent that he has, which I think is a lot better than what he had last year - and the Denver D proved to be a commodity for most of the season.

Nice analysis. I am thinking they may offer some value as a 2nd D as you stated.
