Tebow to Jets (1 Viewer)

All kidding aside I just dont understand the complete and utter over reaction to this deal and negativity towards the Jets....Tanny has made it clear that Sanchez is #1 and Tebow #2 - everyone seems to agree that Sanchez is a shaky at best starting QB...Tebow is a ton better than Stanton so thats an upgrade. Plus with Sparano on board he can run his wildcat that he spent with Tebow who looks perfect for such formation....all for the price of a 4th rd pick who is a big question mark to make some teams?

Sporano and Parcells spent a 2d rder on Pat White to be a wildcat QB....this is a good move and an upgrade for the Jets for a mere 4th rd pick...I know Tebow comes with a circus but thats what the Jets are under Rex....to act like the JEts gave up the farm and are nuked over sending a 4th rder for a backup QB is absurd.

I actually agree with that. Tebow may thrive in that role. His fan hordes are likely to make things unbearable, though.

How many other players chosen in the 1st round have been traded for a 4th round pick 2 years later?

At least the Jets view him more as a gadget player than a starting QB.
Sanchez will get boo'd by game 4 and the Tebow chants will begin. No matter what the coaches say its a lose lose unless Sanchez is lights out, and news flash...he wont be. This move will make the coaches look bad. At least with Brunell there never was a battle of who to start.

Have you ever been to a Jet game? Jet fans are pretty unbearable on their own (and I am one) - first INT and my section starts cursing Sanchez, USC, the GQ spread and his family! I'm think the Tebowmaniacs cant be any worse!

OK so dont bring in better players so they can protect Sanchez? If Sanchez stinks get him out of there....its his 4th season...no more coddling!

I agree. This is why Im saying that he isnt here just for a wildcat because they have to know the pressure they will be under to make changes once Sanchez sucks

This is pretty much how I see it as well. The Jets just signed Drew Stanton too. If a backup QB was that big of an issue, Don't sign Drew Stanton in the first place.

Love Tebow or hate Tebow the guy is pure class. Just heard his phone interview on NFL network and the guy handeled the whole thing as well as anybody could. This is what helps him stay positive and level headed in any situation in a game. There are so many times he could have shut it down and or given up on himself but he kept hanging in there and in turn it helped his team achieve success.

I don't know how anyone can root against this kid as a player. It baffles me that people cheer against him because of some of the fans that follow him. The kid is a gamer and wears his heart on his sleeve and never has a bad thing to say about his teammates, coaches or bosses.

He's the #2 QB - thats his job to come in if Sanchez stinks....they signed Stanton because they had no idea Tebow would be available for so cheap....Stanton got short money anyway....if Sanchez does sucks Id rather have Tebow back there than Stanton!

:goodposting: maybe the Jets brought him in to show them how to handle themselves and how to conduct themselves in a positive way. Everyone knows they could use a positive attitude in the locker room.

He is pure class. Wish Denver had kept him. Good luck Tim.

honestly I am shocked by the hatred and ridicule for the kid...he is not a top QB but he played well last season and can help the Jets....I dont get the mass hysteria and I can only explain it by the outrage over the hype and religion angle.....I personally dont care about that stuff and I doubt Rex does either. Bottom line - Jets have one more playmaker on O and a better #2 QB than they did yesterday...and it cost a lowly 4th rder.....you would think Denver just pulled off the Herschel Walker deal!

Completely agree. Jets improved themselves. Tebow will help them win some games. We all know, for better or for worse, Sanchez is the starting QB and will make his own bed.

I love the concept of Tebow minions annoying the annoying Jets fans :) -QG
:lmao: Which reminds me, what does Chase have to say about all this?I actually like the idea of Tebow running the goal-line offense for the Jets. The city will go nuts if he goes in there and scores a couple of rushing TDs from in close.

What this does is ruin whatever chance Mark Sanchez had to be a decent NFL quarterback.
That ship already sailed with Capt. Sanchez at the helm.
Then you don't extend his contract.... That's the issue here. Inconsistent Team message and Plan.Sanchez has NOT been given consistent weapons and last year he did not have a Run game or Pass protection - I don't think a QB in the NFL succeeds with what Sanchez has been put through. But, THIS was suspposed to be the year - the year with a real offseason program and the year that the offense was going to cut out the Schottenheimer BS trickery and stick to it's identity, control the clock and take shots at the right time and play action....It was time to see if Sanchez can take another step, and while I never wanted him, i can definitely see a QB taking a big step given the circumstances here - heck Drew Brees was a nothing at this point in his Career and Eli had most Giant fans fed up.....But, now, he will never get the shot that all top QB's had, to fight through bad games and develop without mobs calling for the savior....IMO, I think one day Sanchez can be a successful NFL QB with some team - a top backup for sure with the chance to take a team all the way given the right scenario. With the Jets he is DONE. Same with Rex Same with Tanny. It's all over.

I like the signing by the Jets and I think it holds amazing potential for Tebow.

Can you imagine the legendary status Tebow will rise to if he could win a championship in New York? Is it likely? No. But if Tebow can continue to improve, he's on a team that should have a great defense for years. I think he surpasses Sanchez this season.

This story couldn't have taken a more fascinating turn.

I'm surprised that saying he's not very good is labeled "hatred and ridicule" by so many of his fans. It's football. It's not a holy war.
When I read things like "this move will set the team back 10 years" and "the Jets are a laughinstock for bringing him in" in regards to a guy who was obtained for a 4th rd pick that goes beyond "he's not very good" in my opinion. When was the last time a guy obtained for a 4th rder destroyed a franchise?BTW - full disclosure - I am not a "Tebow fan" - never followed him in college...only saw him play in a few games last season....I'm a Jet fan who is sick of having no playmakers on O so I like giving up a 4th rder for one!

they really didnt extend his contract - they guaranteed a total of $2.5 more than he was to make in exchange for freeing up a lot of cap room this year. With all the hype surrounding Sanchez's new contract it essentially is a 2 yr deal and then they can cut him with little penalty after 2013 if he hasnt developed into a franchise QB. If Sanchez can't deal with mobs calling for the backup if he stinks he's in the wrong city. Its year 4...no more time for "developing" in my opnion

the radio jockey who I was listening to at the time broke the tebow trade news as the Mets had traded for Tebow and he was like "thats not a bad deal".........then his on air assistant breaks in and tells him it was to the Jets not the Mets and he goes "why would the Jets want him? they do know he can't throw a football, right?"

I'm with you on that part. I think giving up a 4th rounder for him was a good football idea by the Jets, definitely a small price to pay to take a shot on the guy.

I just hope some of the NY media realize that he holds several NCAA and SEC passing records - so they don't keep opening their mouths and showing how dumb they are.

Step back from the ledge.Nothing is DONE in March. If the jets win games this is all forgottenSanchez and Ryan's biggest problem is the the curse of early success. In our current media world, especially in the NY media world, what you did yesterday is more important than what you did the day before yesterday. It's gonna be sad listening to all the talking heads talk about how Eli is not REALLY an elite QB if he starts out 2-4 with 10TD and 9INTs

passing stats in college are largely non-essential. aside from the Hawaii/Texas Tech/Houston QB's that either didn't make it or flopped their are several Heisman winners with great passing stats and records that haven't panned out. to make it in the nfl you either have to have normal pro QB characteristics or be a uber athlete where you break the norm. for the younger generation to relate to QB success either you need to somewhat resemble Matt Stafford or Cam Newton.........you cannot be a QB who has a elongated/less accurate Tim Wakefield type delivery and poor recognition skills. there are many supporters that point to his nfl winning record.......my niners(and i'm for it) tried to upgrade on alex smith, ravens immediately tried upgrading on trent dilfer and his successor at tampa bay(shaun king) was ran out of town very soon as well. teams are not happy with QB's that can't produce enuff points to not constantly pray their defense plays lights out every week to have a chance to win.

Schefter says Jax is reconsidering getting back in and paying the bonus now
Jags are trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
:goodposting: and :lmao:
Interesting thing now is that (as of yesterday anyway) Broncos said Tebow had input to where he went, but Tebow said he didn't talk to anyone. If it is true, as reported, that Jax offered to pay more of the bonus money than the Jets did ($3miil vs 2.5), it had to be about his choice, no?

Its probably semantics - Broncos probably were talking to Tebow's agent, so both sides could be telling their own version of the truth

I guess, but still disingenuous on Tebow's part since he was asked in the context of whether he had input into where he wanted to go and he clearly did.Though I understand him not wanting to insult Jax.

As a guy who works in NYC, but has no rooting interest here, I am going to LOVE  watching this unfold. Drama 24x7.
Agreed. They are going to be a comedic disaster if they lose 2 games in a row. You got a front row seat to the circus. What's the worst that could happen, right?

The circus is in town.
Former Jet Damien Woody, who is now an ESPN analyst, said the team has contradicted themselves this week. They keep saying Tebow is just a backup quarterback, but then they play into the circus-element of acquiring Tebow with things like Monday’s spectacle that will be broadcast on several TV stations.

“How many times has a backup quarterback had a press conference?” Woody said. “How many times have there been helicopters to meet a backup quarterback at the airport? The organization is saying he’s the backup quarterback. Well, then why do you feel like you have to have a press conference? Why not just do a conference call and call it a day?

“It’s a marketing ploy.”
Others around the locker room seem more skeptical. The biggest questions the players have are similar to those fans have expressed this week: How are they going to run two offenses? Why do this if the organization believes in Sanchez? What happens when the MetLife Stadium starts chanting for Tebow?

“There’s going to be questions every single day to Rex and all the players,” former Jets coach Eric Mangini said on ESPN Radio this week. “Is Tim being used properly? Is he going to get any reps in practice? The first wildcat play that he runs in training camp or OTAs that the media is there for. That’s all going to be big stuff. You’re going to have to deal with that ongoing distraction whether you like it or not.”

The players fear the worst could come this fall with a divided locker room, Sanchez sapped of confidence and Tebow playing a bigger role despite being a lesser passer.

Square peg, round hole.
Totally disagree. If there's a team that can fit Tebow well (smash mouth run game, clock control, hard-nosed defense) this Jets team works.
And I totally disagree with you. The Jets need offensive lineman first and foremost. You need O lineman to run the wildcat. You need O lineman to run a smash mouth, hard nosed run game.
