If he can greatly improve his hands and route running he could be a nice day 2 WR. Thats kind of a big "if" however.

What I saw in Orr at the Shrine game practices was the ability to get in position to make plays that very few WRs could make. What I didnt see was the ability to consistently finish the play. If you are the kind that likes boom/bust picks in rookie drafts - guys with a lesser chance to hit, but if they do, then watch out - then Orr is for you.One nice bonus for the team that drafts him is that Orr seems to have a zest for blocking. Often on the Brian Calhoun highlight reel runs, you will see Orr making a downfield block to get Calhoun free.

I'm sure he did look great in those practices, but watching four years of actual games and I have to say I'm a lot less impressed than you. I hope I'm wrong, but Orr remains one of the guys I think is being vastly overrated this draft.
 
OLB Mark Anderson (6-4, 254, 4.61, 10'7" jump, 42" vert, 4.22 20S)

Off the chart talent like Manny Lawson, but bigger and better suited to the 3-4. Could be the steal of the draft.

One of my favorite players. 2nd rounder, not 2nd day. (ok, maybe 3rd round)

He's that high now? Wow, I just checked NFLdraftcountdown and he has flown up the charts. When I put him on my sleeper list right after the combine he was the #19 DE.

He was one of the surprises of the Senior Bowl and totally aced the combine. It just took a few weeks for the draft community to absorb that into his rankings.

I think this kid gets no hype b/c the Bruin defense has been so bad the last few years, but he's a solid player. Always around the ball and very athletic.

Great pick. I like him as much as Sinorice Moss and it's confusing to me why they are projected to opposite ends of the draft.

:thumbup: Yep. Mentioned him in the Maurice Drew thread this morning as a nice sleeper. Not the surest tackler, but that can be worked on. Not the greatest in man coverage either, but that's not his game. Not too many 235 pound safeties who can cover sideline to sideline short and deep like this guy. He has amazing range and athleticism for his size. He'll blow up wide receivers and RBs with impunity too.

Big problem. His future may be in baseball. He's entered the draft but he's undecided which sport to pursue.

Haven't heard much from Reid lately. But I'm guessing hands + the Moss name help Sinorice.

Haven't heard much from Reid lately. But I'm guessing hands + the Moss name help Sinorice.

I believe Reid was MVP of the Orange Bowl and offensive MVP for FSU last year. He caught a bunch more balls than Sinorice. He's much more dangerous after the catch, and even more affective getting the tough yards. They hype Moss as a punt returner, but he has very little experience with it. If not for Drew breaking the all-time mark, Reid would have led the nation in punt returns. He is as dangerous as the come.
 
I'm big time on the Willie Reid bandwagon. Micky Andrews loved the guy. Said during scrimages he was the guy the defense was most worried about getting the ball. Said he seemed to make a play everytime he got it. Keep in mind that he has played a decent amount of RB as well as PR/KR and WR. In the right scheme he could get 6-8 touches a games on offense his rookie year and make something happen.

As far as another guy, how about Rob Sims OG OSU? He's lost in the mix a bit with all the O-line talent in this draft, but he's a guy that could excel in the right situation.

Sims is the most underrated OL out there, imo. I think Bloom concurs. Still I think he's a lock for day one.
 
Chad Anderson ILB Kentucky 6-2 / 250

May not have the smarts, but has great motor and instincts.

Did not play in 2005 (academically ineligable)

Lately, as in pre-draft, post bowls. Reid has potential, and should be higher than he is.

 
This thread started me thinking about how rare it must be for a second day pick to make the Probowl and I found an interesting article from Drafthistory.com.

Pro Bowl Selections Include 40 First Round Draft Picks and 8 Undrafted Players

The 2005 NFL Pro Bowl teams have been named. Of the 84 players selected, nearly half were first round draft picks. No surprise there. But eight players selected were not drafted at all, which equals the number of Pro Bowl players selected in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds combined. Maybe the later rounds of the draft should just be eliminated.

Of the 84 players selected: 40 (48%) were first round picks; 14 (17%) were drafted in round two; 10 (12%) were selected in the third round; four (5%) were picked in round four; two (2%) were taken in round five; the sixth round provided six (7%) players; round seven supplied a big fat zero; and eight (9%) pro bowlers were undrafted. The top three rounds accounted for over three-fourths of the players selected (64 for 76%). Only 12 (14%) of the pro bowlers were drafted after round three.

The undrafted players who defied all the odds by playing well enough to gain the respect of the fans and their peers were: Panthers' quarterback Jake Delhomme, Seahawks' fullback Mack Strong, Broncos' wide receiver Rod Smith, Chargers' tight end Antonio Gates, Chiefs' guard Brian Waters, Colts' center Jeff Saturday, Bills' punter Brian Moorman and Bengals' placekicker Shayne Graham.

The 8 undrafted players were not second day picks so we can't include them. So for 2005 at least, 12 out of 84 players selected were drafted on the second day. Works out to be 14 %.

I wasn't really responding to you. I was just quoting the whole thread, concurring with him being MIA from the conversation, and providing some hype. It's almost been odd how no one discusses him. He tore it up at the combine. I did some digging and found out nothing but positives about him. How is Moss a 1-2 rounder and this guy a 5-7 rounder? :confused:
 
I think Mike Kudla could end up being a pro bowler some day. We're obviously reaching in this thread, but this guy is a lot more football player than workout warrior. He just loves the gym. However, he may be a surprise first day pick. It's not expected, but I read an interesting article that talked about what a great LB he could have been, but for Hawk, Carpenter and Schlegel. He played MLB in HS, and Tressel thinks he's a natural there, but he was just too valuable at DE, and Schlegel needed to be on the field too. He's 6-2 and 265, ran better than most MLBs at the combine, nevermind the bench business, this kid is a player. This class is shallow at ILB, and Kudla is way under the radar. There's talk of him playing DE or OLB too, but the ILB is what's intriguing. He has great size for the middle. Sacked Vince Young twice.

Schlegel was a great team leader and had great intangibles. Frankly I am suprised that he will go so low in this draft.
 
Ill tell you the 2nd day guy that I am most excited about, and loved watching play in college, despite being a Vol and Commodore fan:

CB Tim Jennings, UGA

I dont know if he'll ever get up to Pro Bowl potential, but I think he'll be an impact player for whoever drafts him, despite his lack of size which will drive him down draft boards.

 
Another somewhat deep sleeper could be RB P.J. Pope out of Bowling Green. Has solid enough size (5.09, 218 lbs.) with some great measurables (22 reps, 6.69 3 Cone Drill, and a 36.5 Vertical).

I think Schlegel will go a little higher than most too. Ohio State's defense was just loaded with talent.
 
QB Bruce Gradkowski (not sure if he's projected as a 3rd Rounder or 4th Rounder) but I think he could be another Jeff Garcia type QB.

I'll throw in a third recommendation for Bruce Gradkowski. Decent size (6'2", 225), good arm strength and accuracy. He is under the radar having played at Toledo, but clearly the MAC has a good recent history of QBs playing in the NFL.Here's a Link to one scouting summary

Few comments...

Bruce Gradkowski will be a starter one day... especially if he lands in a WCO. If I was the Falcons I would trade Schaub for as much as possible and then land this kid. He is smart, accurate and mobile. He is and has always been underrated at every level. Not one of his measurables will stand out but the kid has a fire and finds ways to win and be successful. This comes from a rival, too.

P.J. Pope has some measurables and they represent his skill level pretty well too. He doesn't have spectacular vision, power or speed but he may survive as a special teams guy, 3rd stringer. I doubt much more than that in the pros.

 
Keep an eye on the first 5 to 10 picks of the 2nd day. I read an article every year on how the time between the third and fourth round gives each team's war room a chance to regroup & find players that were overlooked on the first day.

:goodposting: I love this guy - I am not sure where's he's being projected but if he's still around at the bottom of round 4 and Pittsburgh doesn't take him, I am going to be pissed off.

If we are looking for somebody who could be dominant at their position, I believe Bernstein is the best pick here. He's an incredible blocker, and should immediately make the team that he goes to a better running club. His downside is that he will most likely be only a blocking back. From NFL Blitz:

- Bernstein has great fullback size. He is great lead blocker, and acts like a sledgehammer coming out of the backfield. Bernstein blast linebackers in close quarters on inside running plays, and can block them in space on outside plays. Bernstein is a good short yardage runner, and runs with power.

I don't believe he will be an effective inside runner, or even a marginal pass catcher, but he will open up holes.
