Terrelle Pryor is not viewed as a lock to be in the Raiders' 2014 roster.
"It's very clear Pryor doesn't have a future as a QB here," writes beat reporter Scott Bair. Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie didn't draft Pryor, and the coaching staff noticeably soured on him after last year's short-lived hot start. Pryor does have value because he's big and athletic, only 24, and signed cheaply for 2014. We suspect the Raiders could get a late-round pick for Pryor, though they won't come close to the third-round value he originally cost them.

McNabb was 30. For comparison sake, when Rodgers was drafted, Favre was 35. If McNabb really was the elite QB the team often treated him as he would still be the QB for the Eagles today at 37. Or at least for the entire duration of Kolb's rookie contract.

I think there is a strong parallel between Eagles 2007 and Eagles 2014. In both cases 1) there was reason to believe there might be some regression from previous stats and 2) there is a major need at backup. Age is pretty irrelevant. Certainly less relevant than McNabb's injury history and Foles' small sample size and "fit for the offense." The team has the exact same need and the exact same reasons to make the pick. If Chip is going to hedge against Foles I don't think it is Barkley or a major project like Logan Thomas or Stephen Morris. It is Vick, a major draft pick, or a surprise like Pryor.

Granted when Kolb was picked it was a shock. If the staff believes in Boyd as a good fit for the offense (as Reid felt about Kolb) I wouldn't be surprised by the pick. There are few QBs who are fits you have to take one when you can. The question is really if the staff feels he is worth the pick. Certainly on the surface he's a decent fit but not an ideal pick. Looking at CBS NFL draft scout it looks like he might not be anywhere near that high anyway.

The situations are not similar at all. Zero chance the eagles take a qb in the 2nd round.

Gives them a better backup assuming Vick is gone. Good fit for the system.

Would rather see them trade the sandwich for Pryor than draft someone like Boyd in the 2nd.

Lets them devote quality picks to defense and still fill a need.

The Contra Costa Times believes the Raiders will "listen to offers" for Terrelle Pryor.

It's just reporter Steve Corkran's speculation, but it's far from a surprise. CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair recently opined that Pryor isn't a lock for a 2014 roster spot, and that it's "very clear (he) doesn't have a future as a quarterback (in Oakland)." Pryor was inconsistent — to put it kindly — last season, but it's hard to see the upside in offloading him for a late-round pick. GM Reggie McKenzie has proven to be a dodgy drafter, and utterly incapable of evaluating quarterbacks. He needs to be adding experienced signal callers, not subtracting them.

Seems like the perfect Kaep or Cam backup - would mean that you don't have to change the system much if the starter were to go down.

FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports the Raiders have received "trade feelers" for Terrelle Pryor.
Marvez also confirms Pryor will be released in April if a trade can't be worked out. Due an eminently reasonable $705,000 in the final year of his rookie contract, Pryor might actually fetch something in a trade, but GM Reggie McKenzie damaged his leverage when he all but admitted Pryor won't be back with the team in 2014.

The Oakland Raiders are ready to ship Terrelle Pryor out of town.

According to ProFootballTalk, Oakland is hoping to trade the fourth-year quarterback before the start of the offseason program on Tuesday.

Translation: He'll be released if -- and when -- a trade partner can't be found.

General manager Reggie McKenzie told reporters last month at the NFL Annual Meeting that Pryor asked to be let go after the Raiders traded for Matt Schaub. "Terrelle wants to start so bad," McKenzie said in March. "I'll visit with him. We'll talk to him."

Pryor isn't even seen as Schaub's backup. The Raiders are content to roll with Matt McGloin in the No. 2 spot, and don't be surprised to see Oakland grab a quarterback of the future in May's draft.

As for Pryor, he'll find a new home. His starting days might be over, but he's an athletically gifted player who looms as an asset for a creative play-caller in the right subpackage.

Players about to get cut get traded for bottom of the barrel picks all the time. Oakland used a three, got nothing out of him, and might have flipped him for a late pick. Might not even be a guaranteed pick. They lose.

Guessing it's better than a 7th, now.

 
lod01 is a bottom of the barrel poster. Pryor is a great fit in SEA. No pressure, winning culture, strong leadership. He needs time to learn the pro game.

 
question, if they kept him and let him play out the contract, what would of been the comp pick for letting him walk away? Surely better than a 7th?

 
Seattle's 7th would presumably be the last pick in the draft. How could their offer have trumped San Fran's? Cash considerations?

 
If two of the best franschises in the league were trying to get him, even for a 7th rounder, then we should probably re-evaluate his value as a dynasty flyer.

barring injury it isn't going to happen this year, so it would have to be very deep. Otherwise I am watching and waiting.

I own him in about 4-5 leagues but the only one I would consider keeping him has a deep roster of 30 (and I am not even sure about that, I think my best hope there would be to peddle him to the Wilson owner for a late round rookie draft pick). My other leagues are 24-26 players and in all probably will cut him rather hope for something in 2015.

This is the time when people say: If he could perform even remotely well for that team, imagine what he could do with GOOD players around him!

Like they said about Zach Miller. And Darius Heyward-Bey. And Philip Wheeler. And Brandon Myers,

Anyway, Terrelle Pryor is the kind of luxury pick/project that those two teams can afford. Heck, the 49ers have more picks than they can use. What is it, 12 picks? Why not trade a late round pick for the guy, bring him in, and see if you can get more out of him than the Raiders could? They have room for a 3rd QB lottery ticket, a lot of teams don't.

I am amazed the Raiders got a pick for him, but no one got OMG screwed here. Raiders salvaged a pick, however almost useless it is, from a wasted 3rd rounder. Seahawks, for a pick that almost certainly wouldn't have made the team, got a scratch ticket.

About as 'whatever' a trade as you could imagine.

By the way, word round Raider Land is that biggest problem with Pryor is that he's dumb as a bag of rocks. Couldn't run the offense.

Similar skill-set. Obviously, Pryor has nowhere NEAR Wilson's accuracy. But the goal is to not have to completely overhaul the system if/when the starter goes down.

if the Wilson owner is thin otherwise absolutely kick the tires.

Yeah, I'm in a 26 teamer but may hold him as a 3rd QB. Will check to see if the Wilson owner is interested.

Agreed and I have always heard he's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. But still, if they can dumb down the offense a bit he could be successful in limited doses in the future. Maybe one of those things where it's better for SEA fans than for Dynasty owners.

False. Apparently there was a market and it was squandered by a front office that leaks every detail of their personal affairs like it is Guiding Light. You lost value by setting a deadline and teams knew he would be cut. I also think you guys underestimate the worth of an athlete because he was not a good QB. I understand why the Raiders and Pryor had to part but the chances of Pryor having an impact are much greater that the lowest of low 7th round picks. And like someone else stated if they would have let him play out his contract the compensatory pick may have been the same or higher value.

Possibly better than a 7th...but also that pick wouldn't come til next year. THis one gives them "something" now.
