I just rented a P85D through Turo.
Car was two years old and only has Autopilot 1 - not full self driving, but a very good adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, lane keeping, et al. I guess 0-60 is around 3.2 seconds; I actually didn't do any launches, just drove it normally. But going from 40 to 70 in about a second never gets old. Absolutely the funnest car I have ever driven!
It hasn't been the top dog for awhile - the P100D with Ludicrous Mode is rated at 2.5 seconds for 0-60, and has broken 2.3 seconds in numerous tests - but oh my gosh the Insane Mode is a scream. I actually bounced my noggin off the headrest the first time I punched it yesterday. Had it on some winding roads through the woods and the handling in sport mode is terrific - no body roll, really tight. The slot car quickness makes you chuckle all day long.
How does it seat 7 with the way the roof curves down in the back?
Comfortable if you are on the small side?
We sat in the third row of a Model X yesterday while at a Supercharger. I'm 5'8" 150, my gf is 5'3" 100 - we thought it had plenty of room.
Not so much if you are a large person
UPDATE: Rented a 6-seat Model X 90D last month for a retreat. We took 6 people and the third row worked just fine. I don't think I would have wanted a 7-seater, though; the 2nd row bench seems like it would make the third row claustrophobic. The monopost 2nd row (2+2+2) seems like the ideal config. The big sky window made the cabin a bit warm on the return leg, so we installed a fitted mesh screen which helped a lot. Overall I don't think the bloated look of the Model X looks that great but it is super roomy for the driver.
With seats folded down, I actually think you might be able to fit a bit more in the Model S if you didn't have passengers - that car is really voluminous - but we had plenty of room for everyone's stuff (the front trunk aka frunk helps.) I prefer to have the car over the crossover, mostly because of the exterior aesthetic, but I really like the way both handle.
Because the battery weighs so much - it's evenly distributed across the bottom of the vehicle - it handles acceleration and cornering with very little body roll. The Model X is considerably larger than the sedan - sits 2 inches higher, is about 4 inches wider, weighs more - so it's not quite as quick, but man it was fun to drive. If you have a family, I think the Falcon wing doors would be amazing. You can slide the second row pedestal seats forward and easily access the third row; don't have to duck because most people can walk under the rear doors.
The only negative thing I have to say about Tesla cars is it is really easy to fall into bad/dangerous habits. They are, by a good margin, the safest cars on the road. They are the quickest cars on the road. With collision avoidance, lane keeping, TACC, et al, you start to feel invincible. It causes you to - well, it allows you to - do stupid things. Like punching it to squeeze into a tight window to escape congestion. Nobody wants to be that guy. I'm not proud of some of the moves I pulled.
The discounts on inventory cars are not insignificant; you can save 10-35K by taking the showroom model / loaner vehicle with a few hundred miles over ordering new build. If we pull the trigger I'm sure we'll go the low mileage CPO or Inventory route.
