Not sure if this is the proper place for this or not, but here goes.

I joined a local league with one other experienced fantasy owner and 6 relatively new ones, its an IDP, roster of 40 keeper league, number of keepers hasn't been fully hashed out yet. It has been decided that this first year is a "fun" year, no money, just get everyones feet wet.

There is talk of expanding from 8 to 10 teams next year and I am of the opinion that keeper league or not we have the opportunity, since this is just a fun year, to just do it right and redraft as a 10 team keeper rather than going through the pain in the ### of an expansion.

Had we paid money, I wouldn't be for this, but as its a free year doesn't it make sense to start everyone on an even footing?

The league suggests we keep 14 of forty, have a 14 round dispersal draft for the two new fellas, and then slot the two new guys in the 5-6 spot in the rounds 15 - 40 portion of next years draft.

If I was thinking of joining a league, this would not be an attractive option for me, I don't think any knowledgeable person would join a money league under these circumstances.

I'd appreciate any insight you folks may have to offer. Thanks.

Given this circumstance, I would draft all over again next year. You really gain very little by keeping the players and not tossing them back. The goal of a new league is to find a stable group of owners.

Yeah they're all fired up now and don't see people getting bored two 2 months into the season or the next year when they are struggling. I'm trying to suggest that stability is something we're looking for, not just enthusiasm. Oh well, they'll figure it out or they won't, thanks for the input.

You are correct; I would never join a league under these circumstances. There are too many other options.

I agree. You can use this year to get everyone familiar with the scoring, IDP and overall strategy. Since you said that most of the members are relatively new to this, the first year still has value even if you don't keep any players. If you want a stable league for the long term, it's much better to get everyone off to an even start. Also, I would personally never play in a league with less than 10 teams, so I believe it would be a very good idea to expand.
