Texans at Bears (1 Viewer)

As much as things change, they stay the same. The Bears play very well on defense, but the offense is awful. Campbell looks a lot like Caleb Hanie. It is hard to watch.

Campbell doesn't deserve to be on a NFL roster.
Tough conditions, tough defense.......he more than likely didn't take many reps with the starters. These backups usually look better when they get a week of practice as the starter for the following week. He still looks to throw that deep ball down the middle a tad high, he's always done that.

Congrats Texans - defense was terrific and offense did enough despite missing Daniels and playing in terrible conditions.

Nice

As a houston fan, I am just happy to get out of Chicago with a win. CHicago's defensive is good. Just sucks that Cutler went out. I did not want either team to lose any players in this game.

I think if Cutler could have stayed in the game that the Bears would have won, I really do. His QB rating in the 4th would have been the difference.

I'd rather watch that kind of game with weather and defense than indoor track meets. Too bad Cutler went down but it's part of the game with two hard hitting defenses. Bears fans will miss Cutler if he is out compared to putting him down all of the time. Life without him is not pretty.

Yeah, hopefully he's back for next week. After last season I feel for most any team that loses their QB.Figured this game was a coin flip going in and that's pretty much how they looked on the field.

It's hard to say that. Houston's game plan offensively would have been different as well. They knew Chicago was having trouble moving the ball and played a field position game the 2nd half. Cutler, the starting QB certainly helps Chicago but keep in mind Chicago had a huge home field advantage here tonight as Houston is an indoor team, so huge win for the Texans.

Was watching the game just now. Originally saw it on the road without a DVR. At the time I was perplexed that the ref not only didn't overturn the Cutler illegal forward pass (ruled as past the line of scrimmage), but that he actually said the call on the field was confirmed.

Now that I got to rewind it and watch it myself with DVR controls, I suspect the ref judged the line of scrimmage to be where the Bears center snapped the ball from, rather than where it had been spotted. The Bears center didn't snap it from where it was spotted... he cost his team a full ball's length of field position by bringing it closer to him.

If you judged the play by where the ball was spotted, the back edge was right on the 50 so the lead edge was a ball's length on the Texans side of the 50. Which is where the red line we saw on TV was (but the ref didn't get to s), and by that it was clearly a legal pass. But if you were shown a replay and let's say it started with the center holding the ball before snapping it, and you used that as the line of scrimmage, the center moved the ball fully back behind the 50. Using that as the LOS, it would have been illegal and you'd have the result the ref gave.

So I wonder if that explains why the call was blown.

Yes, the video I saw started after the center had already pulled the ball in. Here's a picture that shows what a huge difference there is when seeing it before the center touches it.

Here is before the snap.

Here the ball is gone.

Very close, but IMO it clearly isn't illegal. I think his front foot's heel is probably still behind the LOS, and the back foot heel undoubtedly is. That being said, the officials allowed the TD where Holliday dropped the ball before entering the endzone. Every scoring play is automatically reviewed, it's utterly inexcusable they missed that. I was all for instant replay but when they continually miss simple plays like that let alone closer ones like the Cutler pass I'm completely perplexed. It really isn't that hard is it?

That being said the Bears didn't lose because of that bad call.

I wasn't in this thread to say so at the time, but I was surprised at the call, too. I figured maybe there was some inherent inaccuracy to the digital line on the screen, but now seeing the photos, I don't know how they say his entire body was past the line of scrimmage. It was close though, and it could have been a game changer. That play and the earlier Marshall drop in the end zone change Cutler's stat line dramatically. I also recall a 3rd down play where Hester danced instead of running upfield, costing the Bears a first down. Oh well.
