Texans training camp reports (3 total) (1 Viewer)

Greg,

One thing I'd love to know is whether the Texans are running more 3 and 4 wide sets, now that they have 4 quality wideouts + Daniels. And if they are, who is lining up where, and is Daniels getting in at all in these passing sets?

Loving every update!

I don't recall many 4 WR sets. I'd say the two most frequent passing formations I see are RB/FB/TE/2WR and RB/TE/3WR. I have noted the TE in motion a bit including started out split out wide (I recall thinking "why the hell do they have Bruener lined up at WR?" though he went into motion back to end before the snap), but I don't recall if they actually ran many routes from there or were just using them in motion. This is about the 100th time I've wished I could video tape and go back and check something. The TEs are definitely being utilized in the passing game, and Daniels is seeing a good amount of targets. But my impression at least is that they are using a lot of formations they can either run or pass out of.

Seeing Daniels frequently in person are you seeing an improvement in his game/utilization? or do you think he'll be used in a similar manner as last year?

If I had to hazzard a guess, I'd say probably similar.

Do you think that Jacoby being out with a foot injury influenced what they were running the times that you have seen them?

I didn't notice them doing much with 4 WRs when AJ, Walters, Andre Davis, and Jacoby were all practicing. They did a little, but it didn't seem close to as frequent as the 2 and 3 WR sets.
