An American fugitive guised as a U.S. Navy SEAL planned to bomb Islamic holy sites in Israel, police said Tuesday.
Israeli police arrested Everett Adam Livvix on Nov. 19 on terrorism suspicion and gun charges,
the Jerusalem Post reported. He owned the weapons needed to carry out his planned attack, police said.
The Illinois native illegally moved to Israel last year after fleeing the U.S., where he was wanted in connection to possible drug and theft charges.
He posed as a U.S. Navy SEAL while living overseas, police said.
Officers first started probing Livvix earlier this year, after he “told his acquaintances in Israel about his negative opinions towards the Arab population in Israel and his desire to cause harm to Islamic holy sites in Israel,” according to an indictment.
In October, Livvix bought three pounds of explosive bricks from his roommate, an Israeli soldier, police said.
He also allegedly stole stun grenades, tear gas and smoke grenades as he plotted his attack.
