Thanks Giving Day Game - The Detriot Debate (1 Viewer)

If I had my pick, it would be to place the two leading "America's teams" on Thanksgiving, rotating them as much as necessary.

Right now:

Colts

Cowboys
Thank God you don't.
:goodposting: Colts are one of "America's teams?" Since when? Last year I watched as the Steelers fans completely destroyed a hand full of Colts fans right here. Redskins have a much bigger national following than almost anyone other than the Cowboys and the Steelers, Dolphins, and Raiders easily qualify as teams with national appeal. The Colts might be "in" with 12 year olds and bandwagoneers but they don't count toward TV revenue anyway. Colts aren't even the most popular team in large parts of their small state (read BEARS) and even though people may like watching them, they are no where near a so called "America's team." But then again, Aaron Brooks will be the #1 Fantasy QB this year.
Is it necessary to crack on the loyal colts fans here?

I wasn't cracking on your loyalty but on your numbers as a point of reference. No offense toward Colts fans intended. You were just outnumbered by a wide margain.

So Detriot has sucked for a long time. Should the big Thanks Giving Day game be changed? Maybe it is tradtion and that is fine some what. But who is sick of loading up on Turkey and watching Detriot get spanked in a boring as hell game on T-day? Me I'd rather lose the tradition and watch for example last years super bowl teams duke it out on T-day. Imagine how fun that would be to watch the Steelers hit the turf with Seattle before gorging on turkey and stuffing instead of watching a team that has been pathetic getting stomped by team that might be ok or might not. I seriously think we should email our new NFL commish and lobby for the T-day games to feature rematches from last years play offs and super bowl instead of the yawn fest the Detroit and Dallas games seem to offer these days. For me, it would make T-day that much more exciting.
I like the tradition. They were first, so let them have it...Anyway, one problem with one of your ideas is with the new scheduling system the SB teams will not match up the next season very often. It would be cool to see that re-match every year, though.

You need to review the NFL scheduling process. AFC and NFC teams will play each other once every four years. So there is only a 25% chance that the two teams who meet in the super bowl will have a rematch next season. Also, you play 6 of the 12 teams in your conference each year outside of your division. There's a little better than 70% chance you that a particular playoff team will play a playoff opponent again.

I understand what you want could be good in theory...but right now the reasons I gave would be a major reason why the NFL would say 'no' to your plan.

Detroit on Thanksgiving the last ten years...DETROIT LIONS 55, Chicago Bears 20

DETROIT LIONS 19, Pittsburgh Steelers 16 (OT) (I said tails!)

DETROIT LIONS 21, Chicago Bears 17

DETROIT LIONS 34, New England Patriots 9

Green Bay Packers 29, DETROIT LIONS 27

New England Patriots 20, DETROIT LIONS 12

DETROIT LIONS 22, Green Bay Packers 14

Indianapolis Colts 41, DETROIT LIONS 9

Atlanta Falcons 27, DETROIT LIONS 7

Besides the last two years, all games are Lions victories or close games within a TD. Do a google search before you post misinformed data...Detroit has a rep for usually playing well on Thanksgiving, it's the other games that are trouble... :banned:
If I recall that was when Mike McMahon stepped in and almost rallied Detroit back for the win but covered the spread  And not sure if that was the same year. The Vikings played Dallas and scored with like 5 seconds left and went for 2 still down by 2 touchdowns. They didn't make it thus the over did not cover :wall:
