Funny story, the 2009 world champion saints were not good.

They are in my pocket, and yes ive had a couple beers...lock this thread PTB if need be.

The main difference between this year's Saints and last year's Super Bowl Champions? Pierre Thomas They NEED him.
:goodposting: In this instance its really that simple. They had very little running game at all. Jones broke a couple that would have been even bigger with a better RB.They could have had Marshawn Lynch.

They may need him, but the way they've used him the last 2 years, I can't wait for Pierre to tell them to f* themselves. He'll be better off with his next team. Aint's got what they deserved.

You started this thread maybe 6 hours earlier and you might have something.

This is like saying in 1777 that the British we're that good.

so a running game would help the dbs from getting torched on deep balls to no name recievers.
i would agree. the offense wasn't so much the problem. we did score 36 points after all. the defense gave up 41 points, including lynch's terrific run late in the game to seal the win. the defense and coaching were wretched.

Have no horses in this race but, I think, the Saints win that game if it's in the Superdome. Just doesn't seem right that the Seahawks had the "advantage" of a home game with a 7-9 record, re-seeding for playoffs would be interesting.

I am sad the Saints gave a half hearted effort in this game. To me its like they were doing like the Saints fans and writing the Seahawks off because they were so bad during the season. Its not easy winning in someone else's house two time zones away on the 2nd short week in a row and they should have been more prepared for this game. Tackling was horrendous! Still I will not over react like the OP of this thread. The Saints are as solid as any team in the NFC and have had a decent year defending their title in the toughest division in football. Making the playoffs after winning the Superbowl is a big deal but I was hoping for much more. You guys get back to me after your team wins 11 games and makes the playoffs after winning the Superbowl and maybe we can talk.

As always playoff elimination will mean that fans overreact. (I know I will if the Jets beat us next week even though in reality this has been a great season for the Pats, and their future looks bright, no matter what the outcome of the playoffs will be).

Saints playoff-run was not what it was last year.

However, Saints are still a very good football team and one of the opponents I would have liked to fact the least in the SB (if God is good and affords the Patriots with a place there).

It's more an illustration of teams needing to get hot at both sides of the ball. This game the offense was doing alright, despite some questionable calls on 4th down and the JJ fumble. The defense however, was not. Safety play was awful unlike last years playoffs run when the Saints defense really took off and Darren Sharper and Roman Harper were lights out.

So I'd say the Saints are still a pretty good team that most fans would envy as far as talent goes. They didn't show up (on defense) last night though. In the playoffs a game can be lost in a few moments (just ask me about last year's Baltimore game when they shocked us early with that long run) and everyone needs to be ready to play at all times.

Don't overlook the fact that last year their defense played out of their minds, but against the Seahawks they were absolutely pathetic. At no point in that game did you get the feeling that they were going to make a stop when they needed to. Last year you had the opposite feeling with that same defense. It just looked like they believed that since they won the SB last year that they would just do it again this year.

Peyton did not seem to be as dynamic a play caller as the last couple of seasons. The run up the middle with Wynn on the two point conversion was horrible. Brees is almost unstoppable throwig from inside the 5.

We needed Malcolm Jenkins much more then Pierre Thomas yesterday
Yeah I think we win that game with Jenkins. There's certainly no way the Seahawks would have had guys 20 yards wide open, so I'd like to think we could have held them under 40 if he were playing. We needed Thomas to get any further in the playoffs though. He was so dynamic in the Atlanta game. Without him the offense was completely one-dimensional and a team like Chicago would have destroyed us.
