Detroit has other needs to address in the draft, but I would have preferred they draft Hopkins.

Just to put Hanson, and one way to value a consitent kicker - when Hanson entered the league, Andre Ware, Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer started for the Lions. He was drafted a while after Jimmy Smith, Eddie Robinson... same draft as Desmond Howard. A kid born on the day he was drafted would be enjoying his first legal drink in the US soon (or might be draft eligible).

i remember when he was a wunderkind from Washington State. That was a while ago. He was a good kicker for a long time.

Excerpt from Peter King's MMQB:

Jason Hanson Stat of the Week

The most amazing thing about the notable NFL career of kicker Jason Hanson, who called it quits at 42 last Tuesday, is how good he was at the time of life when other players his age were long since retired or fired.

In the five years he kicked for the Lions since turning 38, Hanson made 85.3 percent of his field-goal attempts. A kicker with a career percentage of 85.3 would be eighth on the league's all-time field-goal-accuracy list.

Jason Hanson Factoid of the Week That May Interest Only Me

The 1992 NFL Draft was 12 rounds in length, divided between a late-April Sunday and Monday. It was not a particularly good draft. Out of 336 players, none has been selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The draft is now officially history. When the 56th player in the draft, Jason Hanson, retired, he was the last active player of that class (by far) to leave the game.

Hanson played 327 games for Detroit over a 21-year career and made two Pro Bowls.

Out of the 1992 NFL Draft, the top three picks -- Steve Emtman, Quentin Coryatt and Sean Gilbert -- ended up playing 278 NFL games combined and earning one Pro Bowl.

Looks like Graham signed with Cleveland. Can he be assured to start or could it be a camp battle?
You still have to wonder where Hopkins or Sturgis go and maybe a few more rookies but those 2 seem like the big ones.

Plus some other nice FA's still out there to sign that could be brought in at a later date. I dont think no guarantee but not terrible either

I agree. Hauschka and Tynes lead the FA list. I had already drafted Graham forgetting it was really Bullock's job, so just got lucky with Graham signing with Cleveland.

Following are the updated composite rankings for specialist in this year's NFL draft. The kickers at the top remain pretty much the same, although there was some movement in the rest of the top ten. Snappers saw the most changes over the past month.

Kickers

Punters

Long Snappers

Any thoughts as to where Tynes will end up, or is it too early to say?
He'll probably have to wait until there is an injury, and even then he might not get a call. The free agent market for "older" and "middle aged" kickers is very crowded due to the youth movement of the last few years.

Any new news for Havard Rugland available? I am thinking of grabbing him in my dynasty where kickers get fractional points per yardage over 30 so a 45 yd fg=4.5points a 55yd fg=5.5pts etc.

The latest news is that he just wore a football helmet for the first time in his life. He remains a raw talent and a long shot... but then again, stranger things have happened in this world.

The following is from NFL.com

» Havard "Kickalicious" Rugland is getting his shot in Detroit Lions camp, but the viral video sensation faces an uphill battle. Lions coach Jim Schwartz didn't sugarcoat it when asked what Rugland needs to improve.

"Everything. He's good at kicking the ball into cars that are driving down the road and helicopters and boats and stuff like that, but I don't think you get anymore points for doing that," Schwartz said, via the Detroit Free Press.

Sebastian Janikowski's new holder may be Chris Kluwe, signed by the Raiders today, although Marquette King is still within the realm of possibility LINK
