The 4th annual Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits (1 Viewer)

Here's a question for WH:

since it's likely that the Oakland Raiders will get shut out vs. Baltimore, that would make two shutouts in a row. Has that ever happened to an Oakland team? Ever? I bet it hasn't.

good to know the lil one is giving you some time to type these up, I was a little bit(selfishly) worried

thanks wheels

I certainly don't think it's likely that the Raiders will get shut out vs. Baltimore. That being said, the 1961 Raiders were shut out in weeks 1 and 2 of the regular season, which included the last time the Chargers shut out the Raiders. Oakland lost by a combined score of 99-0 in those weeks. The 1981 Raiders, a team which rostered 35 year old Art Shell, lost three consecutive games by a combined score of 60-0. Surprisingly enough, Oakland actually started off 7-4 in their other first 11 games.

Chase is turning into the Diet Pepsi Machine of NFL factoids.

I don't think a shutout can ever be described as "likely". If I recall correctly, the NFL had 10 straight weeks last year without a single shutout last year. Just to emphasize how uncommon they really are. Most of the time when a defense is dominating an offense, the defense starts to let up and the offense can manage at least one garbage FG to save face. Or the offense will turn the ball over and give the other team a short field, which they'll convert into a gimme FG. And given Janikowski's range (as demonstrated in the preseason), Oakland has a GREAT chance of getting in range for a face-saving FG at some point.Just remember that Brett Favre played something like 250 games without a shutout. Or that Buffalo, San Francisco, and Houston- despite their BRUTALLY bad offenses last season- were shut out a combined 0 times last year.

The middle of the three shutouts was the only time in Oakland's history that they'd been shut out at home, until San Diego managed it on Monday.

Sorry to not have anything that original to add, but Wheels, I love this weekly post. It's beyond awesome. I'm always glad after I read it, and a little sad when it ends.

Thanks, man.

ETA:

- Willis McGahee, one touchdown in 11 weeks.

- Rueben Droughns, zero touches on third down.

- Zebras, many terrible calls in the Sunday night game.

Wow, a huge amount of information to digest. Thanks a ton!

I'm suprised that the WR most targeted was Bennett. :o

I'm not suprised, but slightly worried that the 49ers leading WR in targets was Gore.

And what the heck are the JETS doing being the only other team on there with 2 WR targeted 10 times or more (The Rams being the other team)?
