The AAF and XFL (1 Viewer)

I try not to venture out of the FFA.
fair enough. I'll post my joke about this Ocho Cinco XFL kicker news here as well then for your enjoyment ;)

"it doesn't bode well for your kicking career when you celebrate like you won the Super Bowl after kicking a 40 yard field goal in practice"

you're welcome. ;)

Yup.  Best thing they did was bringing on both ESPN and FOX.  I mean, that's two heavyweights.  So now they have a reason to make it succeed.  Hell, look at how ESPN pretends that the NBA is doing great.  I'm sure they can PR the hell out of the XFL, too.
I have to say, as a football addict getting 12 weeks added to the schedule doesn’t suck at all. We bought tickets to the vipers home opener.

Just realized I'll be at Disney World on opening day.  And traveling on that Sunday.  So I'll miss the first week of the XFL.

Speaking of Disney, it’s a little funny/odd to look at that TV schedule and realize that it's really just one company (Disney) that is airing the XFL games across its multiple TV networks.

“Now that Fox Corp. has sold off most of its entertainment properties, it has become a standalone company that will retain ownership of its broadcast network, owned-and-operated network affiliates, the Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network and Fox Sports.“

This story is making the rounds in the wrestling world. @DJackson10 has this post summarizing the story.

TL;DR - WWE fired their co-presidents who had misgivings about the XFL and the next quarter’s financials look to be really bad.

I have a theory about the first version of the XFL.  Because of it's association with Vince McMahon and the WWE, I think people originally tuned in to see a WWE-like show with the associated shenanigans instead of "real" football game.  The ratings plummeted when viewers realized it was just going to be (mediocre?) football.  My theory anyway.

Feels like the expectations and support may be different this time around.  Dunno.  Time will tell.

I don't think this will effect the XFL as much. Vince is using his own production he bought for this. The only issue were the two CO presidents not on board with it. Even though Vince owns both my understanding is both are separate entities of one another

It may or may not. I'm curious as to how back the last quarter of WWE's performance will impact XFL 2.0.  I'm just tossing this out here as something to keep an eye on.

I think this is a good theory. They did try to inject some of the WWE's tawdry storylines (remember the phony stories about players dating cheerleaders?), but it just goes to show that you either have to be 100% fake or 100% real, otherwise you're going to annoy a significant portion of your audience.

how about they just try to have a solid, "farm league" for the NFL and play good football?

nah, that's too crazy to work ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is a theory or a confirmed consensus.  This was pretty much the reason it failed.

And they've said that's why this time they are making no illusions that this will just be good old football, but with minor changes.  And those changes aren't anything too crazy.  More like how college, NFL and CFL are all different.

That's great news and what I'm hoping from this as well.

Seeing the list of former NFL players and coaches scattered around these XFL teams, I'll certainly give it a shot to see if players I once held in deep dynasty leagues ;) can make a name for themselves. We all need someone to pull for, or root against, in order to have it be of interest at all.
