The Audible Cover 2 - Brandon Jacobs (1 Viewer)

He's not going to be available in the latter part of the 4th unless it's a 6 team league. Once people see him in pre-season he'll be going in the 2nd.
On what do you base your opinion of Jacobs?

CMJ,I know you're a big Jacobs proponent - Anything you want to add to the case for optimism?
I've probably said too much already... But I did have a couple thoughts listening to the Podcast:Jacobs is NOT a "situational runner". He has been used situationally because of who was in front of him not because he isn't a complete player. In his first season the 2.6 YPC had everything to do with how and when he was used. He was used strictly in (obvious) short yardage/ goal line situations. He wasn't used outside the tackles or in the passing game so defenses new what was coming. What we saw last year wasn't so much a "new approach" as it was him just getting more opportunities. He has already shown natural hands, elusiveness in the back field (see the NE game especially), cut back ability and an ability to run the stretch play (see TB especially). People are making too much of the "stamina" question. He's 24 years old! He has low mileage. He's been working out with Tiki's trainer Joe Carini to make sure he's ready to handle the load. Sigmund you are on to something when you say he "changes the approach of defenses and puts them on their heels". Defenses will have to game plan for him in a way they never did for Tiki. (Tiki was great but he didn't scare defenses). He will create opportunities in the pass game especially off of play action.Garafalo's point about Bradshaw is a valid one. If he doesn't contribute on special teams he may not dress. However I think he's way off describing Droughns as 1b. He's gonna be a 2. Gilbride has said they expect Jacobs to be "the guy". (The tone/ context of the Gilbride interview has been badly misinterpreted btw. If you actually watch it many of the supposed "questions" come of much less negative).Anyway, great job. Keep up the good work!

very insightful post. What's your take on Jim Finn being out for the season?

I was watching the New York Giants inside mini camps on NFL network and it was very noticable how slim Jacobs is.

I think Jacobs will be the starter, but I am having a very difficult time with his projections this season.

It doesn't really change anything. He hasn't been part of the plan since the beginning of the off season. With Jacobs becoming the featured guy they obviously want to move to a bit more of a power running game and Finn doesn't fit that style at all. He's smart and had a great rapport with Tiki but was never the type of physical presence that could blow guys up (and the chronic shoulder thing was always gonna be a concern). Vonta Leach would have been an ideal fit but there seems to be a league wide gentleman's agreement on poison pills so that didn't happen. We should be able to tell how much they like Robert Douglas by whether or not they make any more moves to bring other bodies in before camp.FWIW I don't think they are seriously considering using Droughns in that capacity and know he definitely doesn't want to do it.

Interesting read I found on the Giants site about their RB situation. Addresses Gilbride's thoughts on the FB situation. Most interesting piece is Gilbride saying that Jacobs is a special guy that forces defenses to do things differently, but not sure he can make an injury free season.

Q and A with Kevin Gilbride

I'd say double digit TDs are a given, but the rushing yardage is hard to pin down. 11TDs and 1,000 yards is pretty safe.
