The Audible LIVE! - 7/12/2012 10PM ET (1 Viewer)

"I wish I knew how to quit you" -- we've heard a lot about which players Cecil, Bloom, and Waldman just can't quit. What players in 2012 do you guys think the wider fantasy community just can't seem to quit, even though they should?

Regarding redraft leagues - where would you rank Josh Gordon? As a Browns fan, I think it is hard to be objective on him.

Considering he has a rookie QB and hasn't played in a year, can he really have an impact this year?

For a specific comparison, who is a better end of the roster stash Josh Gordon or Randall Cobb?

How do you guys decide if/when to draft a guy like redman or gerhart where you know they will produce early, but likely not as much in the fantasy playoffs? (edit: this question applies to redraft/snake, but feel free to talk about auction values as well)

Looking forward to the show tonight! Just discovered the site/forum and it's awesome that you guys interact with the listeners so well.

Last week I inquired about Darren Sproles and him being underrated in PPR. This week, I want to talk about Fred Jackson. He has a PPR ADP of RB17 and 36 overall. In a 12 team league, that's an early 3rd/late 4th.

Last year before he got hurt, Jackson was an absolute stud. He received a 2 year extension recently, which indicates the Bills have confidence in his health. Spiller has emerged as a weapon, which is the reason Jackson's ADP has slipped to where it is. However, I don't see why Jackson can't be a RB1 even with Spiller still being an effective weapon for the Bills. Worst case barring injury, I see Fred Jackson as a low end RB1. If you are in charge of the Bill's offense, do you really want to take Fred Jackson off the field? As good as Spiller is, Jackson is just the best running back on the team. Gailey mentioned using both at the same time recently, which indicates to me that Spiller could be getting a lot of time in the slot, rather than at running back.

Like you say weekly, the RB position drops severely very quickly. Fred Jackson anywhere in the third round seems like an absolute steal. I'd love to start a team with Foster/Rice/McCoy/Mathews, Sproles, and Jackson.

Thanks in advance! Love the show!

How do you adjust your redraft rankings when competing in a league where TEs are awarded 1.5 ppr and the starting requirements are 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE & 1 Flex? Obviously this escalates stud TEs such as Graham & Gronk, but would you still be an advocate of drafting RB-RB in the first two rounds considering the uncertainty after the first 5-8?

Also, considering the depth at WR, can you afford to wait on WR despite being forced to start a minimum of 3 in a ppr league?

This format emphasizes all three of the skill positions. . . .which one takes a backseat?

In leagues that combine WR and TE's, where would you place the value of Gronk and Graham?

Also, one of the tenets of the perfect draft article on FBG.com is eliminating the suck. In the last decade 11 offenses on average repeat from the previous year in the top half, so which 5 teams will enter the top half this year and which 5 fall out? Here is last years top 16 offenses by yards: NO, NE, GB, Phi, Det, Car, SD, Car, NYG, Oak, Atl, Dal, Pit, Hou, Buf, Bal, Was

How do you think the addition of Brandon Lloyd will affect the numbers of Welker, Gronkowski, and Hernandez? Is there enough to go around for any of these guys to justify their ADP's at this point? On a related note, do you make anything of the fact that the Patriots have signed two fullbacks and a big blocking tight end this off-season after using two early picks on RB's last year? Could it be that Belichick is thinking that they can't win a championship constantly being in shootouts and that they need to have the ability to grind out the clock, as well, in a way that they haven't been able to do since Corey Dillon? Or that he feels that most defenses are being built to stop the pass and that opens up an opportunity for a more smash-mouth offensive scheme? In other words, could he do something counter-intuitive and go to an old school, run-oriented offense?

I have been running a 10 team, 4 person PPR keeper league for almost 10 years now. We have 17 total people on our roster. You MUST have 2 QB’s, 4 RB’s, 5 WR’s, 2 TE’s, 2 K’s & 2 Defense/ Special teams. We start 1 QB, 2 RB’s, 3 WR’s, and 1 TE, K & DST. Over the past couple of years some owners have asked about eliminating the roster minimums. So instead of having 2 Kickers you could have 3 QB's etc. What's your take on this? What's common practice for a keeper league?

Thansk again guys!

Hey guys, love the show. I am now 3 for 3 winning championships in my 2 year old and 1 year old dynasty, including 1 undefeated season, thanks to your show. My question is, with the Browns selecting Josh Gordon in today's supplemental draft, do you see Carlton Mitchell making the team? I hope not, as he has been the final man on my bench in both leagues. If he is able to escape the army of mediocrity that is the Browns WR corps, where will he most likely land (if anywhere) and where would be the best fit? The Dolphins could use any help they can get. The Falcons seem to have use for a 4th WR. Colts? Cowboys? Panthers? Keep up the great work. Thanks.

In the past, I've used the end of my dynasty bench to frequently turn players over (ie the waiver wire darlings of the week) until I get one that hits. How many bench spots on a dynasty team (assume 10 bench spots total) would you save for this? If you play IDP (hi Jene) with a larger bench (say 20), does that change things?

Love the show guys. I'm new to the addiction that is fantasy football, entering just my second year, and I'm glad to have stumbled upon FBG and the Audible podcast to give me my daily football-fix....it keeps the withdrawal "shakes" to a minimum. :)

I've heard you all talk about where particular players "rank" against other players and rank overall based on research and studying film, but I'm curious if you also go as far as calculate projections of player stats. I've seen the projections that David Dodds et al released, and also read several posts in the SharkPool from the regulars, some of whom use mathematics and formulae that would draw envy from a NASA scientist.

Do you simply rank players based on research and film, and draft accordingly? Or do you also project stats for players at each position? (Or perhaps a hybrid approach?) I'd love to hear even a cursory discussion on this topic.

Cheers.

I have the potential to trade for Megatron in my keeper league. It's a standard scoring, keep three (forever, no cost), 14 team league.

My keepers are SJax, BMarsh and Finley. I have the fifth pick in the draft where I'll get either Trent Richardson or Jamaal Charles.

Should I trade Marshall and the #5 pick for Don Mega? Or is the price too steep?

One last hiccup: the league might be converting to an auction draft with an annual inflation rate for keepers. Does that affect my decision?

Thanks guys. First time, long time. Love the show and love you guys.

Hey guys, Huge fan. This is the first time I've posted a question, but I've listened to the audible every episode for the last two years and my father and I combined have subscribed for over 10 years. Just have one quick question. Due to circumstance and wanting to be all together in the same room actually drafting, my 12 team league full of college buddies is drafting this Saturday. Obviously not preferable. It kinda has me a little thrown as to how to precede. Do you guys have any advice for drafting so early?

both Shane P. Hallam http://draftcountdown.com and Russ Lande http://sportingnews.com have confirmed and will be on the show in the first 1/2 hour.
Coolness.Piggy backing on the Josh Gordon question.

I would love the Football Guys and your esteemed guests to give a take on how Gordon fits in with the Cleveland receiving corps and considering the positive reports from the Browns mini camps about Weeden.

What is the upside of the Cleveland passing game? Anything they can give on Weeden, G-Little, Josh Gordon, and I'm thinking TE Jordan Cameron could suprise.

Thanks!

hello, I have been playing fantasy football since the mid 90's but always in 12 team leagues. This year I am joining a 10 team. How should this affect my draft strategy. Does fewer teams mean I should try to package picks to acquire an extra 1st or 2nd round pick. thanks

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I figure the slow period is a good time for this discussion. I'd love to hear any advice you may have for newby fantasy football writers. How do you guys go about choosing article topics? Any specific pitfalls to avoid? Have any "if I only knew what I knew now back then" type of wisdom to share? If this isn't a good venue for this kind of conversation let me know and I'll contact you through email or on the forum.

Thanks!

Hi again Guys!

Regarding drafting TEs in a 12 team redraft PPR with 3 WRs and a RB/WR/TE flex. 1 PPR for all.

I see in one of the mock drafts in the new Footballguys Interactive Fantasy Magazine, that Gronk went 1.02, and Graham 1.05. Amazing to see the apparent value of those TE’s. It may be a function of the scoring in that particular draft, so could you please talk in general about TE drafting in a PPR league where all receptions are 1 point.

I can’t imagine spending a first round pick on a TE, and wonder if you’d discuss why you think it is a good idea. Is the "value loss” at QB, RB, or WR worth the uptick in the TE weekly value?

Here’s that draft, where 9, count ‘em, 9 TEs went in the first 37 picks! Thanks again!

With Vincent Jackson in Tampa, do you think Malcolm Floyd could be a top 20 WR? Rivers has always had a productive WR and seems to have chemistry with Floyd based on late last season.

Based on talent rather than opportunity, rank these backup RBs:

Mike Goodson

Jonathan Dwyer

Dion Lewis

Delone Carter

Felix Jones

Bilal Powell

Guys,

Great Show!

I've gone Stud QB, TE, along with 2 top 15 WR's. Who are the two RB's I must leave my startup PPR Dynasty draft with in the 7th and 8th rounds?

Also, I love your reserve a pick for segments, aka Hakeem Nicks two years ago and Mark Ingram last year. Who is that player in what round this year?

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for some general strategies for salary cap and contract year cap leagues after the initial auction. I see a lot about how to build your team, but little about management in season or how to spend dollars in trades and free agents. Any tips to share about how you like to organize these types of teams?

re: Josh Gordon, why isn't a 2nd rd pick a big deal? That seems really high, especially considering the Browns prolly won't win 6 games this year.

Doesn't the Josh Gordon pick hurt Greg Little? He was a fashionable late-rounder, and now I'm not as excited about him. Doesn't this just cause uncertainty where we thought we had clarity. No one can definitively say that Little will be more targeted by a rookie QB Wheeden than Gordon.

Give me odds on Josh Gordon bettering Greg Little in terms of production this season and going forward. Let's face it, Little isn't exactly Fitzgerald over there and they don't have anyone else. They actually used a higher pick on Gordon.

You could see little start stronger and lose ground too. Lots of question marks.

I'm having trouble accepting the claim you guys keep making that QB is really deep. Last year the difference between Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning was around 8.5 points per game. In PPR that's the PPG played difference between Calvin Johnson and Bowe, or Foster and Reggie Bush. It's the difference between Fitz and Johnny Knox! It's also just under the difference between starting DWill and not starting anyone at all. The difference between Cam Newton and Tony Romo was the difference between Victor Cruz and Stevie Johnson. That looks like a pretty huge dropoff to me. It looks like a huge difference even when you factor in needing 3 WRs. It looks even bigger when you factor in the chances your early RB/WR pick is going to be a bust for whatever reason.
