The Birther Conspiracy Thread (3 Viewers)

Chris Mathews more than anyone is the one obsessed with this issue.
Disagree with "more than anyone". Besides, we all love a good trainwreck right? I don't think you understand how crazy this whole birther thing is. I applaud the Left for getting a good laugh at it and exposing the birthers for what they are.
This story line of birther's and right wing extremist benefits the left not the right. Most people on the right wish this issue would just go away. The left is using this issue to bang the right, that is is why is dominates the news - because it benefits the left.
You don't think FoxNews isn't benefiting from this "theory"? Really?
Fox news spends a lot time trying to put this story to bed - They believe Obama is a U.S. citizen and that the issue is a non-issue. MSNBC is the one benefiting from the issue - not Fox. They can't talk about the bang up job Obama has done on anything.
Really?
Media matters -really.Fox spends 15 seconds on something and media matters blows it up 1000 fold. Most irresponsible organization on the web.
52 segments in 15 seconds has to be some sort of Guinness record. Someone should tell the Fox News reporters that they've clearly got this chick beat.
OK 2+ hours in the last several weeks. MSNBC will do that much tonight alone. Also Media Matters is horrible. Lies, Damn lies, statistics and the ............................... Media Matters. By far the most irresponsible blog on the internet.

Probably quite a few candidates for this...

All you, and the right, want is for this issue to go away

Huffington post vs red state

Huffinton Post is obsessed with the issue. Red State mentions it.

Who is hyping the issue? The left.
Of course the right wing sound machine is downplaying the latest news. It puts the lie to years of racist idiocy regarding Obama's citizenship (again). Whoever was pushing the story, those who believed the birther stupidity were/are overwhelmingly Republican/conservative.
Not really. He should have produced this 2 1/2 years ago. The story isn't the birth certificate. It is how the media plays the story.

This should have been a non issue. There is no document that should be easier to produce than a birth certificate. Seriously, is Obama playing us? Isn't that a huge story?
:lmao:

The whole thing was driven by the left, not the right.

Or not.

Increasingly, conservatives are trying to replace one conspiracy theory with another, accusing liberals of spreading birtherism in order to discredit their ideological foes. "Every conservative outlet has already shot down this rumor," Ann Coulter claimed on Fox this month, blaming "liberal cable stations" for keeping it alive. Even Michele Bachmann recently made an abrupt turnabout on the issue, declaring it a settled question.
Except that . . .
The list of prominent conservatives who have winked at birtherism is long. Earlier this month, Rush Limbaugh said, "We've got somebody about whom there are legitimate citizenship questions here, serving as president." In March, Mike Huckabee said Obama grew up in Kenya and thus probably sympathized with the Mau Mau Rebellion against the British, though he later tried to pretend that he'd simply gotten Kenya and Indonesia mixed up. Sean Hannity has continually raised questions about Obama's birth certificate. Michele Bachmann said that, running for president, "I think the first thing I would do in the first debate is offer my birth certificate so we can get that off the table."

And, not surprisingly, many conservatives have taken their leaders at their word. A New York Times/CBS poll released Thursday shows that only 32 percent of Republican voters believe Obama was born in the United States. The numbers are even worse in Iowa, a hugely important state in the primaries. There, a Public Policy Polling survey recently found that only 26 percent of Republicans believe that the president was born in this country; 48 percent say he wasn't, and the remaining 26 percent aren't sure...

But it was the Drudge Report, not liberal cable stations, that was hyping Corsi's work Thursday with an "exclusive" titled, "Book to Reveal Obama's True Identity?" Nor was it liberals who've made Corsi a star of the Tea Party circuit. And it certainly wasn't the left that made the Arizona legislature pass a bill requiring presidential candidates to produce long-form birth certificates, or, failing that, two or more other documents such as hospital birth records and circumcision papers. While Republican Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed it, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says he'll sign similar legislation if it gets to him. Birther bills are pending in a number of other states, including Oklahoma, Texas and Indiana. In Indiana, the bill would put governor Mitch Daniels, a likely presidential candidate, in a tough position, forcing him to choose between catering to the Republican base and preserving his reputation for sanity.

the LEFT in MT is here again making this issue something

who cares what the right said, you listened, thus the blame lies on you

Are they questioning the birth certificate? No. Their coverage is 100% centered around exposing the idiots. Huge difference. If you can't see that, then I'm sorry. Please keep posting.

I hate this issue. I wish it would go away.

Birth certificate on Drudge

The template- The right are Birthers ( left wing derogatory slang). They are extreme. Repeat as often as possible.

The story is about how the left plays the media to their tune. The left wing media likes the template so they oblige.

The right has given up on this non-starter issue a long time ago.

Bingo. At the same time, it is impressive that the new Right wing mantra of "We never cared about this in the first place, the Left are the only ones who made this a big deal!!!" was able to make its way from Satan, to Rupert Murdoch, then to Hannity and friends, and finally all the way to the MoOs of the world, in a matter of minutes. They must have one heck of a telephone tree set up.

Seems like this is the only subject anyone is emailing me about today.Everything I'm getting indicates that this isn't even a well done forgery. Didn't the left learn anything with the Rather/Bush documents?

I am not Adobe certified, but I do know most of the tricks of the Adobe Creative suite package and use them all the time. The document posted isn't even a good attempt at a hoax (a real disappointment since one would expect better, even for a fraudulent document). Acrobat does not create multiple layers by default of a scanned image (which is what this is supposed to be), and especially in really convenient locations for editing purposes. A scanned document should consist of a single graphical layer composed of pixels and no vector content. Yet this is not what is seen in the whitehouse.gov PDF file. One can readily remove most of the typewritten text from the document in Adobe Illustrator (an impossibility for a purely honest scanned document) as well as manipulate the dates stamped on it (again separate objects and an impossibility for an honest document). I was easily able to substitute your name for Obama's as a proof of principle (see attached). My modified PDF has no structural differences than the one posted by the White House. How can this be??? Even the Adobe Acrobat Pro software indicates that the file has been edited and contains deleted and cropped content. How can you have deleted and cropped content on a purely honest scanned document. You can't, that's the point.

Just got in, reading through the last several pages. I love how Sam Quentin's trying to be funny, like it's suddenly all a big joke, as if we should forget everything he's written on this topic. And Golddigger's blaming the Left for bringing this up. Classic!

C'mon now. I think we all should be able to agree that both the right and the left have played a role in hyping this issue.
The Birthers of the right hyped the issue of the birth certificate. The left hyped the fact that a large percentage of conservatives are Birthers.
Wasn't it proven that a large % of conservatives are bithers?
45% of R's are birthersThe term birther is derogatory. So when you start an article with derogatory slang then you have biased the article.

Also, there is something really weird about Obama waiting 2 1/2 years to produce a document that other candidates have no problem producing. He is playing the media which is the story.

Certificates for twins born the day after Obama have an earlier Certificate number

The Certificate number on Obama's document is 61 10641 Dated Aug. 4, 1961 But on the birth certificate of someone born the next day (Aug. 5 1961) it's 61 10637

Why are the birth certificate document numbers out of order?
Who says they have to be IN order? You have 2-3 different people working on 2-3 different stacks...throw in the fact that they have 2-3 days during the week where they actually do the BCs and I can see them out of whack. It's not like as soon as the kids are born, they crank out the BC. At our hospital for our son, the actual BC wasn't completed for a week after he was born.

Jerome Corsi's response:

After this morning's surprise release by the White House of what it claims is Barack Obama's long-form birth certificate, an author challenging Obama's legal eligibility to be president – whose upcoming book has become a No. 1 bestseller a month before its release – summarizes his response to the day's events in two words: "Obama blinked."

Jerome Corsi, Ph.D., whose two previous No. 1 New York Times bestsellers – "Unfit for Command" and "The Obama Nation" both have dramatically affected the presidency – is the author of the forthcoming WND Books release "Where's the Birth Certificate: The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President." After a major story on "The Drudge Report" last week, it shot up to No. 1 on Amazon's bestseller list and remains one of the nation's hottest-selling books three weeks before its official debut.

"Public pressure finally forced Obama to do what he did today. Now the game begins," said Corsi. "Nixon thought he could stop the Watergate scandal from unfolding by releasing a few tapes. All that did was fuel the fire."

Suggesting that Obama's presidency will not survive the revelations contained in his book – which goes beyond the birth certificate controversy to definitively document the multiple legal problems with Obama being a U.S. president – Corsi said, simply, "When people read the book, they will see that Obama is not eligible to be president."

I have seen Fox dismantle this birther argument many times. Probably part of the 52 times they covered this story.Ann Coulter, Hannity and others have been stating that the birther issue is a non issue for a significant amount of time. This issue is good for the Dem's which is why it is being propelled and propagated the way it has been.

Corsi might be on to something. My email inbox is ABLAZE with forgery talk
The certificate posted today by the White House appears to be a fraud. I opened the birth certificate up in Adobe Illustrator, and I was shocked. The number "1" up in the upper left corner was photoshopped in. Meaning, to me that this was lifted from someone elses certificate and the last number was removed and the "1" was added. It is eye droppingly clear that it has been photoshopped when opened in Illustrator. More shocking is the section regarding being born in this jurisdiction. In the words "no, give" in that section, the "o, gi" have been photoshopped in. I reviewed the Nor*** birth certificates and it became clear. The "X" made on both of the Nor*** certificates was made into the letters "o,gi". In order to recreate in photoshop, the "X" needed to be removed and in doing that the character integrity was lost resulting to it having to be re-photoshopped back on to the Obama document. The new "X" placed in the box also is in the photoshop layer. Sorry, this birth certificate that was posted today on the White House site appears to be manipulated. Find someone with Adobe Illustrator and have them open up the document the White House released today. This is worse that Dan Rather's gaffe. Your jaw will drop.

To put that in perspective...
More than half of Democrats believed Bush knew

I've been looking for a good analogue to the willingness of Republicans to believe, or say they believe, that Obama was born abroad, and one relevant number is the share of Democrats willing to believe, as they say, that "Bush knew."

There aren't a lot of great public numbers on the partisan breakdown of adherents to that conspiracy theory, but the University of Ohio yesterday shared with us the crosstabs of a 2006 poll they did with Scripps Howard that's useful in that regard.

"How likely is it that people in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East?" the poll asked.

A full 22.6% of Democrats said it was "very likely." Another 28.2% called it "somewhat likely."

That is: More than half of Democrats, according to a neutral survey, said they believed Bush was complicit in the 9/11 terror attacks.

I'm still not sure this represents actual belief, as opposed to a kind of trash talk about a president you hate. (Bush wasn't mentioned in that survey question, but had been earlier in the poll.)

It does, though, offer a bit of context to the suggestions on the left that mass insanity has beset the GOP.

Politico
I think there's a lot of the bolded going on with the Birther issue too, and I have no clue about the accuracy of these surveys.

I think you can tell a lot about the bias of an article by the slang is adopts.

Example:

Pro Life - Conservative.

Pro Choice - Liberal

Trump, the property mogul and reality television star mulling a Republican presidential run has in recent weeks raised questions about Obama's birthplace, in an apparent bid to court the party's radical conservative base.

"I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," Trump said in the political bellwether state of New Hampshire, which will host an early 2012 Republican party nominating contest.

"I was just informed while on the helicopter that our president has finally released a birth certificate. I want it look at it, but I hope it's true."

"I am really honored frankly to have played such a big role in getting rid of this issue," said Trump, who is famed for telling losing contestants "You're Fired" on his television reality show "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Rush Limbaugh, the high priest of conservative talk radio said on his show Wednesday that Obama's decision to release his birth certificate was driven by his declining opinion poll ratings.

"What it really shows, and this is going to irritate a lot of people, (it) shows Trump's ability to connect with average voters in a way that no one else has been able to connect on this.

"We have a reality star that has forced Obama's hand on the birth certificate."

Republicans, despite the fact that sections of their membership have been challenging Obama on the issue, said that the president had been wrong to raise it.

"As I've repeatedly stated, this issue is a distraction," said Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee.

"Unfortunately (the president's) campaign politics and talk about birth certificates is distracting him from our number one priority -- our economy."

Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin weighed in on Twitter: "Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue," she said.

Obama Birth Certificate Adobe is trending high on google right nowthe masses are looking into thisthe charade will fall
It's really gaining steam
Open the document in Illustrator CS2 and you'll get your answers. The text is layered. Some text is monochrome bitmap, some RGB, some are transparent overlay some are actually part of the background, some are individual letters.... this is a layered composited assembly of various objects.... whats revealing is that they are not just OCR optimized fragments, they are complete layers and floating text objects

what sarah MEANT to say was the left forced itif not for liberals like Rush and Palin this issue would have died long ago
