I've been looking for a good analogue to the willingness of Republicans to believe, or say they believe, that Obama was born abroad, and one relevant number is the share of Democrats willing to believe, as they say, that "Bush knew."

There aren't a lot of great public numbers on the partisan breakdown of adherents to that conspiracy theory, but the University of Ohio yesterday shared with us the crosstabs of a 2006 poll they did with Scripps Howard that's useful in that regard.

"How likely is it that people in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East?" the poll asked.

A full 22.6% of Democrats said it was "very likely." Another 28.2% called it "somewhat likely."

That is: More than half of Democrats, according to a neutral survey, said they believed Bush was complicit in the 9/11 terror attacks.

I'm still not sure this represents actual belief, as opposed to a kind of trash talk about a president you hate. (Bush wasn't mentioned in that survey question, but had been earlier in the poll.)

It does, though, offer a bit of context to the suggestions on the left that mass insanity has beset the GOP.

I think there's a lot of the bolded going on with the Birther issue too, and I have no clue about the accuracy of these surveys.

Where was the media blowing up that story. Bush assisted in the attack of 9/11 is extremist. So the media did not play the template- the left wing are all extremist because they believe this (derogatory slang word for the 9/11 assisted attack) over and over again. Why? Because they have an agenda.

What is a birther?Is it someone who thinks Obama wasn't born in Hawaii.Then I am not a birther.

That's what all the birthers say. We've gone over this. If you didn't believe Obama's previously released birth certificate proved his citizenship, you're a birther.

I think it is odd that it took 2 1/2 years to produce a document as innocuous as a birth certificate. But I do not think it is a big deal either. Does that make be a birther.

They must have one heck of a telephone tree set up.

I have seen Fox dismantle this birther argument many times. Probably part of the 52 times they covered this story.Ann Coulter, Hannity and others have been stating that the birther issue is a non issue for a significant amount of time.

This issue is good for the Dem's which is why it is being propelled and propagated the way it has been.

Clearly he's been stating it's a non-issue for a significant amount of time. That must be why he only brought it up at least nine times in the last month.

There is something wrong with the scenario. Why would someone produce a document that is that easy to falsify. Options:1. They want to propel the story;2. There are no layers and the certificate is legit;3. They are incompetent.

I think that is a common right wing sentiment. Produce the damn document. Get it behind us. This has gone on far too long. That is a far cry from what is implied by the derogatory birther slang. Hannity is not stating Obama wasn't born in the USA. He is saying produce the damn document and he as after 2 1/2 years. BTW - isn't it odd that many stated the document didn't exist. If it existed why did it take 2 1/2 years to produce. Obama is playing one way or the other.

Illustrator is not photoshop. It would be easy to flatten an image in PS.

Are you guys dense? I opened it in both Illustrator and Photoshop. There are no layers. Also, the result would be the same regardless if opened in Photoshop or Illustrator. If a layered PDF is opened in either the layers are there. A document can be just as easily flattened in Illustrator as Photoshop if you know what you're doing (which you two clearly do not).

Are you guys dense? I opened it in both Illustrator and Photoshop. There are no layers. Also, the result would be the same regardless if opened in Photoshop or Illustrator. If a layered PDF is opened in either the layers are there. A document can be just as easily flattened in Illustrator as Photoshop if you know what you're doing (which you two clearly do not).
