I wanted to do some digging through the pff stats, so I decided to count up blitzes by linebackers and secondary in week one.
http://profootballfocus.com/by_week.php?ta...eid=&stats=
first of all, let me say this is a little half assed, as a DE who becomes OLB during the game will get his blitz participation noted differently, and so escaped my count, while the OLB who move to DE aren't being counted.
this mostly involves teams like the ravens, jets, or san fran, so it's not some tremendous issue, but just so I'm not trying to pass this off as some kind of scientific study.
the format will be as follows:
team (opp + score) - corner blitz / safety / ILB / OLB (total blitzes / total snaps - index)
ILB = MLB/RILB/LILB
OLB = WLB + SLB + RILB + LILB
the index number isn't a %, just a ratio I cooked up for ranking purposes -- I'll rank them from high to low by this made up ratio.
note -- for those unfamiliar with defenses, you'll see a lot of the 3-4 teams ranking very high on this list, as their OLB tend to provide a lot of their pressure.
also, I think I'll use bold + italics for teams that won by 14+.

* I substituted SF's week 2 numbers because they played AZ in week 1, and AZ ran about half their offense 4 wide, which is kind of unusual from a league wide view --- next most on a 4 wide list might be something like 15% of offensive snaps.
turns out SF ran quite a bit of dime in both weeks.
