So what exactly was so great about the actual catch? Every receiver/TE in the NFL could make that catch except Jerramy Stevens.

Yeah, and Lawrence Taylor was dubbed LT first, but when i hear LT now, i think Tomlinson.The fact the the Tyree catch was a play 10 times better than the Clark catch, and in a bigger game, i can see the Tyree one becoming the real "The Catch" one day.

I dont think so. The catch (the real one) is already to ingrained in football history.

The Catch essentially "kick-started" the San Francisco dynasty of the 80's and was done in the final drive of a game over what would be a hated inter-conference rival like the Colts/Pats modern day rivalry. That play was also done against a Dallas team that had been 11-5 and 12-4 the prior two years and went 12-4 in 1981.

I think Tyree's catch will go down as an amazing catch in its own right and will be comparable to Lynn Swann's "Levitating Leap" catch in that the catch will be glorified forever. It just won't take on the label of "The Catch" but possibly it's own title (which it deserves more IMO).

There are just some things in NFL History that won't be replaced nickname wise... things like The Ice Bowl, The Catch, The Drive, etc.
