The Colts should go after Sage Rosenfels (1 Viewer)

Providing Favre comes back the rumor is the Vikings were showcasing Rosenfels for a trade. Not sure if that's true or not, but the Colts would be foolish to go into the season with Curtis Painter as their backup QB. Now I know Manning has never missed a game, but I think Rosenfels can be had at a decent cost. Certainly a cost worth taking IMO.

I just don't get it. He is so bad. Why not get someone like Jeff Garcia?

If there is a worse backup QB in the NFL, I would love to know who it is. I understand that Manning never misses, but a little insurance would not cost very much more than Painter.

Jim sorgi? You see him last night? That was awful.

Sorgi is a pretty good answer....But remembering him backing up Manning, I really don't think he was as bad as Painter.

C-Paint is pretty bad, but I'm not sure he's worse that JT (Just Turnovers) O'Sullivan with my Bengals.

Maybe it's not that Painter sucks, it's just that nobody else besides Manning is actually that great a player...and Manning is such an incredible, out of this world QB, that everyone else goes from average to above average/elite

Maybe you don't remember the game last year where Houston was up about 17 points when Rosenfels became a turnover machine single-handedly allowed Colts comeback and win.

I'm sure the Colts remember.

I've often wondered about Manning and how he'd have fared elsewhere and in different situations. I sorta think you are correct in that Manning is just that good more than anything else. I've convinced if Manning were traded straight up for Sam Bradford, the Rams would make the playoffs this season. the Colts? I doubt it.Conversly, If manning were to be the Vikings starting QB this year, I'd say they'd be the overwhelming favorite, thier over/under would be about 13 wins and I'd be pounding the over.

In the cleanup duty last year and preseason game this year, Painter has been horrid. Should they trade a pick for Rosenfels? Eh, maybe. They could probably

get him cheap if Favre is back.

Great idea. I would love to have Sage as a backup. Not likely to happen though. Polian has consistently stuck with 2 QB's on the active roster with the 2nd guy being a developmental player. The rationale seems to be that if Peyton is injured, there's no way in hell this team wins the Super Bowl, so there's no point bringing in a guy like Bulger who could guide the team to 9-10 wins. Instead, might as well pay a young guy peanuts and hope he develops into the heir apparent or attractive trade bait.

Of course, the flaw in the logic is that a solid backup could prove very valuable if Peyton suffers a short-term injury and needs a guy who can keep the team competitive for 3-4 games and in the hunt for a division title. Sage takes a lot of chances, but he makes a lot of plays. I bet the Colts would be a mediocre offense and a .500 team with Sage Rosenfels, while Painter would need some freak plays to win an NFL game at this point in his development.

Bumping this for the annual "good call" award, even if it is a season late. So, if Painter is so bad, how does such a situation go on for so long?

All I am hearing now is that "no one can run the Colts offense except Peyton" and "they will be completely lost without him".

I understand the guy is one of the best out there, but to me that would mean I'd also want the best backup available.

I wish I knew the issues for sure with Nate Davis who the Colts cut earlier in the preseason. The little I saw of him, he has an incredible arm. I guess his learning disability was could have been the issue. I just never saw him get a real shot. These other QBs seem horrible to me on Indy that Nate should have gotten a better shot from my distant unknowing view.

I still don't understand why the Giants put Sage Rosenfels on IR. He had strep throat that affected his back. He would eventually recover. Were they afraid a team like the Redskins would pick him up or are they trying to extend his contract?

that doesn't make sense to me.I have a ton of Giants friends and he curiously hasn't been discussed. Got any more info? And teams can work out injury settlements and release players if they both agree. It's possible they couldn't agree so they put him on IR.

I liked Harrell.

I did in college and got to see him some this summer via the web and he looked good. The writeups were good and...why'd the Pack cut him? Now he's on the PS and they got lucky he cleared waivers.

The Colts need to sign a guy like him and dump a guy like Painter. Generally it doesn't matter who the third stringer is, but at times it does. The Colts seem to "stay pat" too much at QB. Ya gotta keep improving. Next year if someone is better than Harrell then adios.

Anyhow, KC is as good a vet as the Colts could get. The Titans were borderline obsessed with the Colts due to Fish and he has plenty of experience against the Ds in that division. I imagine he was comfy real quick. My biggest concern is the WRs being so much better he's off on his timing.

I don't like their RBs and can't believe they once went from Faulk to Edge to this. Benson was going to go to jail and a free agent when Peyton had surgery in May. Palmer wanted to play somewhere for a year. Yeah I know the CBA stuff, but when the coast was clear they could have made a move for Palmer. He could have covered for a year and moved on and everyone would be pleased.

I drafted Peyton. Favre and Peyton are freaks that never sit. I'm willing to consider they were as dopey as me and expectant of Peyton to play. I think, if this is the case, they're lucky to have KC.
