The Criterion Collection (2 Viewers)

I think I like a fair amount of Wes Anderson, like I said I liked The French Dispatch and The Grand Bupdapest but there's a suprising amount of stuff I haven't seen or don't remember seeing. I just browse topics sometimes and I saw kps post and found it curious but that makes a lot of sense. Though I'm bombarded with trailers, if I'm watching youtube and sometimes streaming services you'll see a bunch but when I look up a movie I don't watch the trailer, I'll read the little blurb about it and glance at the score since tha't's what I care about.

Further proof we might not be able to be movie friends. ;)

Who needs you when I have these wonderful movie friends

He's a tough one as I've really liked some (Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom) and hated others (French Dispatch).
1 out of 2 ain't bad
I enjoyed The French Dispatch quite a bit.

I am with you, I am team Wes Anderson. Not a total fanboy, I didn't care for Royal Tenenbaums which many consider his best film. But Grand Budapest Hotel, French Dispatch, Moonlight Kingdom, Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and Asteroid City are all just delightfully weird movies that I really like to love.

I noticed that you cut of the part of the quote where @rockaction tells you he doesn't even watch many movies. You gonna trust that guy??!! ;) j/k, rock!

But that is the beauty of all this - there are movies for anybody. One thing you will never hear me say is that Wes is untalented or his movies aren't well directed and look great. Also, I haven't tried any of his after Grand Budapest Hotel, and have probably only seen 4-5 of them. Maybe I am off here, but his weirdness I code in my head as quirky and cute - where I lean more dark and sarcastic. Looking at his cast of actors that he is frequent collaborators with and it is also largely people I don't seem to click with in other movies, so it's a bit of a double whammy - Tilda Swinton is a reason I haven't tried some of the newer ones, for example. I seem to have a pretty strong dislike of her for some reason.

50% sale going on!

Today I grabbed four 4K discs, two from my list and a random two I haven't seen: Eyes Wide Shut, No Country for Old Men, Brazil, and Fires on the Plain.
Well this answers the question I just asked lol. I don't know what Fire on the Plains is. What caught your eye about that one?

Mostly Japanese movie from the 50s I haven't seen or know much about. It did have a whiff of familiarity when I saw the title though - I lost my written list was it one of the movies Pure Cinema pod mentioned in the Kubrick episodes, maybe with Paths of Glory? I just remember there being a mention of a bleak Japanese anti-war film during one of the episodes, and this one certainly looks like it fits that description.

Oh I must have heard them talk about it on that episode and it just didn’t register. I bought the Japanese trilogy The Human Condition two or three years ago because all 3 movies are among the absolute highest scores on Letterboxd but I still haven’t gotten around to watching them yet.

I'm not 100% that's what it was from, but it just felt like I had heard a mention of a movie like that, and it would make sense that's where it came from. Like you said, if so it didn't fully register - I am less likely to remember a mention like that if I had no knowledge of it before or can't picture the dvd artwork. I saw it was at 4.1 on Letterboxd, and I don't see a ton of movies over 4.0 when I look.
