"The D. Bowe Show" (1 Viewer)

I picked him up at the last minute and waived Issac Bruce. It was a good move and will probably earn me a "W" this week. I am a believer in Bowe!

why do you think he is not a stud in the making? He has done nothing in 4 games to lead me to believe he is a one hit wonder... he will have challenging games. as long as eddie K is hampered, I think he adds another weapon to the kc defense. opposing d's will have to cover him taking some of the heat off of LJ and Gonzo.... just my 2 cents

!@!@#@$#!@$!@#@!#!@$!@#@! I drafted Bowe, but ended up dropping him before week 1 started to make room on my roster. On the bright side, I still have Troy Williamson on my roster

Some guy in my league dropped him in week 1. I snatched him and have been starting him since thanks to Dodds. Troy is on my roster too, but not playing.

As a Chiefs rube, it's nice to finally have what looks to be a stud WR - it's been a long time. Just wish we had a better QB to him the ball. I'm still pulling for Croyle to start, but the win today will probably solidify Huard as the starter for a while yet...

Almost picked up Bowe for $1 at the end of my auction, but ended up going another direction. Regretting that one big time now (could have kept him for $2 next year)...

Still kicking myself for grabbing Jarrett instead of Bowe as my last pick in my big money league.

Holy crap... just looking at the box score. Want to love this kid a little more?

Bowe - 8 receptions

Every other WR on KC's roster - 0 receptions.

It amazed me how many people said he would be a bust because he "can't catch". I can't remember him dropping a single pass his senior season.
He's got my attention now. Tell me more about him in college. I didn't see very many of his games.

I don't understand the appeal of moving to Croyle soon. The kid couldn't complete half of his passes in preseason vs. vanilla defenses. I think letting him learn with the clipboard and not throwing a wrench at that offense is the key. The desire to get rookie QBs tick is the wrong one IMO. Look at guys that learned on the sidelines first: Palmer, Bulger, Brady, Kitna, Hasselbeck, etc. The list goes on. Let him sit and learn, soak in the game for a year. Everyone will benefit.

That guy is a monster.

He has a physical presence on the field that is sort like an Owens, Boldin or Ward. By no means am I putting him into that talent category after a few games but...In terms of how he fills out pads; plays and the raw/mean nature of his game Bowe looks a little like those guys play in and out. Hopefully, the success will continue.

Same here, but I had the top WW spot and was able to pick him back up after week 3. :whew:

Bowe sparks Chiefs offense again

By ADAM TEICHER

The Kansas City Star

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/297840.html

Tony Gonzalez’s game-tying touchdown in the third quarter Sunday raised his career total to 62, tying him with Shannon Sharpe for the NFL record for touchdown catches for tight ends SAN DIEGO | Held to just one catch in the first quarter, Dwayne Bowe had some friendly advice for Damon Huard as Sunday’s game against the Chargers moved along.

“I talked to him on the sideline and told him he had to come to me,” Bowe said. “I don’t say it in a way that will make him (feel bad) … just tell him I’m open and I feel like nobody can cover me.”

Huard listened to Bowe for the third straight week, and it paid off for the Chiefs. Bowe caught eight passes for 164 yards, the yardage being a team record for a rookie. More important, he caught the 51-yard touchdown pass that allowed the Chiefs to break a fourth-quarter tie in a game they would go on to win 30-16.

Not to be outdone, tight end Tony Gonzalez made his first touchdown catch of the season a spectacular one. Gonzalez outjumped two defenders in making a 22-yard TD reception in the third quarter that allowed the Chiefs to tie the score at 16-16.

The TD was Gonzalez’s 62nd, tying him with Shannon Sharpe for the NFL record for tight ends.

“I’ve had a lot of easier touchdowns than that one,” he said. “It was one of those ones I had to go up and work for. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I figured it would probably be like that. For me to break the record, it will probably be the same thing. It’s not going to be one where I’m wide open in the end zone. Maybe that’s my fate. I’ll take it anyway I can get it.”

Gonzalez maintains a slim 21-18 advantage over Bowe for the team lead in receptions. Bowe leads 3-1 in touchdowns.

Their statistical race should be an interesting one as the season moves on. Injured wide receiver Eddie Kennison is hopeful of returning for next week’s game against Jacksonville at Arrowhead Stadium.

If he does, coach Herm Edwards said Samie Parker would move to the bench.

“That’s why we drafted him,” Edwards said of Bowe. “We knew he was a big-play guy. We’re going to throw him the ball and whether Eddie was ready or not, (Bowe) was going to play. When Eddie comes back, (Bowe) is starting.

“That’s what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to draft players and play them. He was ready to play his first game and he didn’t play as well as people anticipated in that first game, but he’s made up for it in the last three.”

The Chiefs originally planned to bring Bowe along slowly, but Kennison’s hamstring injury — he pulled it on their first offensive play of the season — forced Bowe into the lineup.

Their offensive struggles forced the Chiefs to throw the ball his way.

He had a rough first game in Houston but has been more than even the Chiefs anticipated since. He scored their lone touchdown in games against Chicago and Minnesota and then had the game-breaker on Sunday.

He ran a short slant pattern, caught the ball between two defenders, and the Chargers had no safety back to make a tackle.

That allowed Bowe to pass Johnny Robinson, who had the team’s rookie record for receiving yardage in a game. Robinson had 130 yards in 1960 when the Chiefs were the Dallas Texans in a game against the Bills.

Damn Kevin Curtis game last week made me not pick up Bowe in my 10 team money league. Missed both Bowe and B Marshall, and both were on my radar, too.

He's got my attention now. Tell me more about him in college. I didn't see very many of his games.
Prior to last year he always dropped a lot of passes but was productive anyway. Then, last offseason, he has laser eye surgery because, as it turns out, he was legally blind and didn't even realize it. After that he started catching everything thrown to him. It was amazing.

missed out on Bowe when he was drafted a few slots ahead of me in a dynasty league but got Sidney Rice a few picks later, who could very well finish as the third rookie receiver

Anyone else think Bowe could go off this week vs. Cincy? Bad secondary plus they are missing Joseph this week, and Kennison is not looking likely to play.

We all kinda know Bowe is a Stud in the making but what about Croyle? Is he an upgrade over Huard?

I may start sending this to my opponents after weeks when Dwayne helps me win the game:

You've been B :)

Looks like he's finding a nice groove with Croyle. ;)

D-Bo had 11 targets yesterday, which was more than all the other K.C. pass catchers (including Gonzo) combined. I've been playing "throw a dart" with my WR2 each week... between Bowe, Driver and Crayton. I might just ride the kid out the rest of the year and hope for the best.

Comments:

- Why do people judge based on nothing? Croyle apparently is/was "bad". Just "bad". Well, his QB rating for the year prior to yesterday's game was over 100, and that was mostly on the back of a good performance against a good Jaguars defense trying to prevent the shutout. He just put up a near-100 rating on the Super Bowl champs who have a very, very solid defense, and he did it without any semblance of a running game and shaky protection at its best. Oh, and outside of Bowe and a gimpy Gonzalez, he really has no one to throw to.

- I love Bowe. Speaking strictly to fantasy only, though, I don't think he's a great play for the rest of the year, although I think he'll have a big game or two in spite of the offensive play-calling and coaching, nevermind lack of receiving threats around him and the support of a running game. Bowe in the 2006 Saints offense with Brees at quarterback and all those weapons to account for... now that would be nasty.

- As far as comparisons go, I'd say Owens in terms of style, although they do have their differences. Very strong, good route runners, block as good as any WR in the NFL, great leaping ability, toughness (over the middle), somewhat inconsistent hands (although to be fair to Bowe, he hasn't shown that at the NFL level yet), great after the catch, etc. Not saying he is Owens, though.

- That game against San Diego was one of the most complete I've seen out of a receiver this season. He went deep, caught a slant and went the distance, turned a 1-yard screen into a 12-yard first down screen, went over the middle, ran the deep out, blocked great, caught everything. I just wish the Chiefs weak-minded coaches would sling it a little bit more.

- GREAT attitude. Herm can blah-blah about why they drafted him after he makes the big plays, but I'm confident that they drafted him for his attitude. If not for that, they go Meachem or Aaron Ross or someone. Very confident but not overconfident, team player, hard worker, etc. Love it.

Glad to have him in KC.

D-Bo's been fairly quiet after an impressive run in the middle of the season. Rookie wall?

Anyone else think he could be in for a big day in Detroit? If the Lions show up at all on offense, they could put up enough points to force K.C. to pass, and we all know that the Lions pass defense is comical. Gotta decide between D-Bo and Driver.

Anybody have a similar tough choice this week involving Bowe? Maybe we can put our heads together here....

Gotta pick two out of Megatron, DBowe, and Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzo's probably in there unless we find out Sorgi will be throwing him the rock. I like Megatron a little better since Roy's been out. DBowe gets hurt more by his lousy QB and offense more than anything else. I'm probably leaving him on the bench, but the matchup is kinda nice...

Same issue here. Just bounced from the Indy thread to this one trying to gain some insight on what might happen this weekend.

I like the DET DEF matchup a lot. Early in the year they were forcing turnovers to mask their yards allowed, but now they're just bad - ranked at/near the bottom in many major categories. I am starting Bowe over Roddy (dislike his post-Petrino value as well as a QB making his second road start, despite being @ ARI) and Evans (reference any Evans thread). KC's passing game is around #20, DET's pass DEF 31 or 32. Best matchup of the three. If DET scores some points (and KC's DEF certainly isn't elite) KC may pass more than Herm would like. And after last weekend's weather there's something to be said for a dome game that has scoring potential.

D-Bowe has been dropping passes recently over the past 2 weeks... he dropped a potential 50+ yd TD from Croyle last week, on the 3rd play from scrimmage, causing a 3 and out. I'm not too sure what's going on with him the past couple weeks, but I am still very impressed considering he is a rookie and we all know that rookie WR's take the longest time to become acclimated to the NFL. I cannot wait to see him play next year, especially if they get an OL to give Bowe time to get open!!

Brodie Croyle has a bad rap. The kid just keeps getting better. One thing is for sure, he's got the arm to make any throw. Croyle has a pretty bright future, IMO.

I think he is doing well considering the talent ( or lack thereof ) blocking for him... i have been impressed.
