III without Sophia Coppola would be watchable, but because of her I cannot stand to have it on.
Never knew who she was before hand and it was still watchable. She's not nearly as bad as say Hayden Christiansen in Clones or ROTS. Godfather 3 is a decent film. Third films always suffer when the first 2 were great.

The Godfather Legacy is on the History Channel. Nice way to kill a couple of hours before the Super Bowl.

It's an interesting look at the casting process and the background of the films.

:goodposting:Godfather III is a perfectly okay film. The main problem is that the first two are all-time classics. It's hard to pull that off three times in a row.

Wait, Carlo beating up Connie is one of the best film scenes ever? Yeah, if you like watching a woman getting beaten up by her abusive husband.
Interesting that you find people getting murdered perfectly acceptable but draw the line at a woman getting beat up.

It took me years to watch it because I heard so many bad things. When I finally did, I was like "this was a decent movie." It wasn't great but an acceptable 7/10 as opposed to the 10/10 for the first 2. Too many hardcore fans that let their hearts blind them.

was watching gf II earlier today.

Question: When Michael and Hymen Roth are on the roof with the others in Havana and Hymen Roth was is going on about how his interests will be divided up, it seems like Michael has an epiphany about Hymen double-crossing him, right before MIchael talks about the rebels. Did he have an epiphany there and if so, how? I came in right a that scene, so maybe I'm forgetting something from prior to that.

That was my favorite part right there. Sonny gets plugged by 1,846 bullets yet keeps walking.

And miraculously, the windshield which was just completely destroyed is now in tact as he's laying there dead.

I never got that impression. after HR mentions that the money never made it and they go inside, Michael tells him he wants to wait and gauges his reaction.

 Why did they cut the guy shooting him up close and kicking him in the head? Would that have made that scene too violent?!

This was after the assassination attempt in Michael's home, right? (Where his wife sleeps, and where his kids come to play with their toys!). He knew Roth was behind that, but he had to keep his enemies close to find out who in the family sold him out.

I think you mean WHERE HIS WIFE SLEEPS! . . . where his children come to play with their toys.

Maybe I was reading too much into it. It seems like he is listening to Roth talk and intensely thinking about it. And then he makes the comment about the rebels out of nowhere, which irritates Roth and then shortly thereafter Michael asks him about the assassination attempt. So my impression is he deliberately said that at that time and had me thinking that it was all related to him accusing Roth of the hit. But maybe he was just trying to agitate him as part of an overall information-gathering technique (generally seeing how he'd respond).

Yeah it isn't very good at all. Doesn't stop me from watching though.
Maybe if the incest thing was eliminated? There's a good movie in there somewhere. At least that's what I tell myself while watching it, until I'm thoroughly disappointed with the film and myself once it ends.

I think the bigger question is..Why is Johnny Ola putting the knife in cold water after everytime he cuts the cake?

The rebel suicide bombing threw a red flag up with Michael about the stability of the government and Roth's judgement as to whether or not what they wanted to do was feasible. Maybe Roth's irritation is a sign of a double cross (he's basically going to take Michael's money and have him killed) or he's questioning Michael's questioning of his judgement.

Question re Godfather II:

Is the character who shouts the first warning about hiding young Vito a young Frank Pentangeli?

Looks like this is Godfather weekend on AMC.

They know what's up. If they just ran The Godfather, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead 24/7/365, their ratings would kill.

Sonny woulda lived if they had EZPass!!!
:lmao: I had this same random thought. Also, for a mobster, he sure was an upstanding citizen to stop at a toll booth instead of running it in a blind rage.
It's a Tracey Morgan joke. The story goes he was meeting Jimmy Caan and he told him he loved how he played Sonny. He was such a hothead but he woulda lived if they had EZPass. Absolutely kills me when he tells it.

"Michael, it true?"

"Don't ask my about my business, Kay."

"IS IT TRUE?!?!?!"

"This one time.... this one time, I'll let you ask me about my affairs."

"Is it true?"

...

...

...

"No."

"WHEW! Okay, cool. Wanna go to Applebees?"

Never noticed it before but in the frank pantangele aborted bar hit, they give him a hundred bucks first, and he says he doesn't like it, its an insult... just moments before getting a piano wire wrapped around his neck. Later in the flashback, vito is supposed to bring six hundred bucks to fannuci, but he only brings him a hundred (50 each from tessio and clemenza). Fannucci is taken aback but admires the kids guts... just moments before getting whacked inside his apartment. Interesting paralellism between don corleone getting respect for having balls and going through with what he says he's going to do, and michael doing his best to act the part
