The JETS Running Game (1 Viewer)

Any new thoughts on Greene? Ryan said they will be a "ground and pound" team. Are we overreacting after one game thinking Greene blows?
People over react after week 1? Get the heck outta here, I never heard of such a thing here on these FBG forums.
With Greene is not so much just an over reaction to week 1 (at least the way I look at it) because last year he was handed the reigns and the Jets signed LT as a backup/3rd down back. LT looked better all training camp and the Greene backers thought you were insane to even intimate that LT was any threat whatsoever, it was comical. Believe me I was involved in a bunch of those threads and added LT to my teams because he was cheap and looked the better RB. We all now know what happened last year and LT was the guy (when he was supposed to be the 3rd down back) and Greene did nothing during the season to indicate that he should be getting the ball in his place. Then this year they loudly stated that Greene was the guy all offseason, they have LT take a paycut and now this is Greene's team. Then the games start and LT comes in off the bench again and outperforms him.Do I think this will be a repeat of last year? No, I don't think LT has the burst anymore but what worries me from a Greene perspective is why can't he take what is being handed to him? He is in the perfect situation, everyone wants him to be the guy (at least from their words) but he actually has to do it on the field. I'm a prove it to me kind of guy and Greene has proven nothing to me outside of a few games during his 3 year career.

Just wait another week and this thread will really take off.
Think the Jags D will be really good, I assume? While that's possible, I find it hard to imagine that the Jets ever trail by more than a score. With Revis on Thomas and Cromartie on Hill, I doubt Jacksonville gets going in the passing game. The Jets run D is very strong, and while Jacksonville won in '09, I think the Jets will be in good shape in this game.

If Greene doesn't get 20+ carries this Sunday, then it's panic time. Greene looks like a guy who you should only start when the Jets are likely to win and get a lead early, and this looks like one of those games.
The Jaguars run defense is as good or better than it's ever been. The pass defense is still meh so I expect the Jets to moved the ball, but not so much on the ground. I agree that the Jets get a lead early and doubt the Jags ever mount much of a challenge, especially if Marcedes is out. Greene may get a ton of carries, but if he does I bet he needs them all to be fantasy relevant this week.

Good post!It seems to me that one of the two younger HBs is going to get a chance sooner or later. Greene just doesn't pass the sniff test and has had plenty of opportunity. I don't see why it will happen when it hasn't so far.

I also utilized LT a couple weeks last year. He proved to even be valuable trade bait as the realization he was pretty decent hit everyone. Sunday night looked exactly like last year.. When it was time to move the chains and they needed someone they could trust, it was LT. And almost every time he came through. He doesn't have that burst... but I'd argue that he still looks much quicker than Green. He just get its done. Thats an intangible that you can't really qualify, but you know when you see it. Shonne Green has just rarely shown it.

Ya, I THINK this year will be different as that is what the Jets keep saying whenever they talk about the RB situation but he's going to have to prove it on game day. I don't hate Greene, don't own him (didn't target him and passed on him in drafts when it was a coin toss) but he had a ton of hype last year and did nothing and this year is pretty similar (in terms of the hype). He's certainly got the opportunity in the absolute perfect offense (just like last year) so it wouldn't shock me if he turned it on. When push comes to shove I just don't think he has that much talent but the Jets REALLY need him to be the guy if they want to be a SB contender. They can't have LT carry them and they have no one else on the roster that is really any threat at this point. I know that he'll be given every opportunity I'm just not confident that he will do a lot with it.

Greene is not the answer. I wish he was as I was counting on him in one league. But he is clearly not a reliable back. RB3 at best.

I still like the comparison to TJ Duckett. That's if he reaches his potential.
Sure you do, as most haters do.That is not even an accurate comparison.
Your Right ... Duckett scored TDs Greene has more fumbles, 6 (5 lost) than TDs 4 in his 2 plus years in the NFL.
LOL, that means so much to this year. Thank you for sharing.Comparing Greene to Duckett is moronic. Because your obviously haters.
Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they are haters. Even ignoring the Cowboy game I have yet to see Greene do anything on an NFL football field that makes me think he is anything other than ordinary. He had a great two game run in the playoffs two years ago and has done very little since then. His YPC last year was a pedestrian 4.1 and he fumbled three times in 201 touches (not horrible but not stellar either). He doesn't catch well and I have yet to see him do any damage as a short yardage runner (Since joining the team LT had 12 carries/targets inside the five and Greene has 3, which tells me what the team thinks). He plays on a good team with an above average line. The opportunities are there for him and he should be a decent producer but I personally don't expect much beyond decent with this guy. What specifically is it about him that you like so much?

Greene is 3 yards and a cloud of dust, he stinks. I just wonder if they start to look for another solution this year....

Did you check McKnight & LT ypc ?
LT is done. From what I've heard and seen of McKnight there's likely nothing there either. Jets want to be a "ground and pound" and they have less than 75 rush yards in a 29 pt win... :X
I think its a situation where they are suffering identity crisis. This team CAN run, but they are caught up in this idea of letting Sanchez have more control and taking the next step and as a result they aren't getting it done. They also lost Mangold today so that did not help. Also, its September. If you can afford to hang on, I would. I think come November and December, this team will be running more. I don't expect Greene to become an everyweek threat for 125+/2TDs, but I think he will have that kind of stat line a few times this year. Right now, if he could just be what Beanie Wells has been so far and do that every week, I would be thrilled.

Greene was terrible today. Either he has a giant hole and gains 7 yards, or he goes down easy. Constant 2nd and 7 is not good.

I'm ready to see Powell. Hopefully, Rex is too.

Yeah, it's weird. Most people keep repeating "the Jets are a run first team", and you can even bend some stats to back it up. But for FF purposes their ground game is stagnant. I agree that they are trying to create a situation where Sanchez carries the team on his shoulders.

At this point I have little faith that Greene could get 125 running for the Texans. He looks slow and has little to offer in the way of evasiveness. They need a guy who can inject a little lightening when he finds a hole. Is Powell that guy? I really don't know anything about him. Even if he is though, I also don't have much faith in Rex Ryan having the guts to make a huge change like that and give Powell enough opportunity to be relevant. I'm quite sure he'd say he is happy with Greene's performance so far. Real world/Fantasy world don't always jive together.

I know what the Jets say they want to be but I think they know they don't have the personnel to be that team (ground and pound).

I'll be the first person to admit that I was wrong about the Jets OL. I thought that they would have a seamless transition replacing Damien Woody w/ Wayne Hunter, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Hunter looks terrible and that's really killing the Jets, especially because the Jets of years past ran primarily to the right. I don't think any RB on the Jets roster has the explosiveness needed to overcome the Jets' (thus far) crappy O-line. I think best case scenario for the Jets OL is that Hunter improves dramatically to the level he was at last year, and Mangold comes back healthy in a few weeks and the OL starts to gel.
