The Mock Draft to End All Mocks (1 Viewer)

1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush, RB, USC

Not really a need position for the Texans, but when you have the 1st overall pick in the draft and can't get good value to trade down, you have to take the Best Player Available, and, make no mistake about it, Reggie Bush is the best football player in this draft.

2. New Orleans Saints - Mario Williams, DE, NC State

With Brees on board, the Saints look to lock up the best defensive player in the draft and possibly the next Julius Peppers.

3. Tennessee Titans - Matt Leinart, QB, USC

Some say his stock is falling lately, but I think the Titans' management is still in love. McNair's days in Tennessee are numbered.

4. NY Jets - D'Brickshaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia

The Jets could really use an offensive tackle, and what-do-ya-know -- the best one in the draft -- possibly the best one in several years' drafts is sitting there waiting for them. Tough to screw this one up...

5. Green Bay Packers - A.J. Hawk, OLB, Ohio State

Imagine if they sign Arrington too  That's one scary pair of OLBs for years to come...

6. San Francisco 49ers - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland

Davis is a freak and they NEED some big-time players on offense to help Alex Smith along. I don't see how they could pass him up...

7. Oakland Raiders - Vince Young, QB, Texas

Oakland is the perfect place for Vince Young to prove everyone wrong who thinks that mechanics are so damn important. It's about what you do on the field -- and Vince Young is a winner.. Maybe some of that will rub off on Aaron Brooks

8. Buffalo Bills - Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State

First real surprise of this draft (unless you count VY). Bunkley's stock is rising. I think the Bills need help at DT as much as they need it at OT, and Bunkley fits their scheme well.

9. Detroit Lions - Michael Huff, DB, Texas

I think Huff will play FS for the Lions. And I think he'll be a pretty good one.

10. Arizona Cardinals - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt

Need a long-term plan at QB -- who knows how much longer Warner can play.

*** Trade Alert *** The first trade of my draft... If only it were a little bit more exciting. With St.Louis shopping the pick to 3-4 teams interested in Ngata (Miami and Philadelphia could be interested), the Browns get nervous and can't wait. They send next year's 4th round pick to the Rams to move up one spot.

Cleveland trades 2006 1st round pick (#12 overall) and 2007 4th round pick to St. Louis for St. Louis' 2006 1st round pick (#11 overall).

11. Cleveland Browns (through St. Louis) - Haloti Ngata, NT, Oregon

NT is a key ingredient to a dominant 3-4 defense and Ngata is an amazing one...

12. St. Louis (through Cleveland) - Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech

The Rams need a CB. Williams is probably the consensus #1 CB in the draft. It makes sense...

13. Baltimore Ravens - Winston Justice, OT, USC

Justice should be a huge upgrade over Orlando Brown. Mike Anderson, Jamal Lewis and Kyle Boller are all very happy with this pick.

14. Philadelphia Eagles - Chad Greenway, OLB

I hear Dhani Jones and Keith Adams aren't very good

15. Denver Broncos - Chad Jackson, WR, Florida

Chad Jackson > Ashley Lelie

16. Miami Dolphins - Manny Lawson, OLB, NC State

A little early for Lawson, but the Phins have a tough time finding a trade-down partner.

Miami will go to a 3-4 defense full-time this year and Junior Seau is done. Lawson will be a nice fit at OLB playing opposite Jason Taylor. Crowder and Zach Thomas will play MLB while Donnie Spragan, Sedrick Hodge, and Derrick Pope provide solid depth both inside and out.

Travis Daniels will slide to FS -- a position he is better suited for anyway -- and Tavares Tillman and Deke Cooper will battle it out for the SS spot. Will Poole (back healthy) and Will Allen will start at corner. Traylor and Manny Wright will share time at NT, while Kevin Carter and Vonnie Holliday will start at DE.

Sooo, after the Lawson pick, here is what our needs look like (in order of importance):

1. CB -- We have virtually zero quality depth after Allen and Poole with Daniels moved to safety.

2. CB -- Oh, we also don't really have a starting-caliber nickel back.

3. NT -- Keith Traylor is very old and Manny Wright really isn't a good fit for NT.

4. OG -- Hadnot is solid at C and I think in his 2nd year under Houck that Vernon Carey will become almost dominant at RT. Between Damion McIntosh, Anthony Alabi (my favorite) and L.J. Shelton, somebody has to step up at LT. That leaves OG. Jeno James is average, at best, and I had to look it up to see that Alfonzo Ephraim is the starter at RG :X We need help here...

5. WR -- Could do worse than Marty Booker at WR2 and I think Wes Welker is under rated, but we could use one more threat in the passing game. If Chad Jackson were available, I think we'd take him.

I believe RW will be cleared and traded to the Broncos for one of their 3rd rounders.

Miami will probably look to add two CBs in the 3rd round as there should be good value available -- Dee Webb and Marcus Maxey possibly.

Look for the Dolphins to call Skyler Green's name in the 5th round.

OG and NT will have to be addressed later in the draft and/or through FA after some cuts are made...

17. Minnesota Vikings - Ernie Sims, OLB, Florida State

Vikes consider Santonio Holmes and one of the RBs, but in the end figure it's best to start the building process on defense. They need help at LB.

18. Dallas Cowboys - Jason Allen, FS, Tennessee

Jerry Jones is convinced Allen is healthy and that is bad news for opposing offenses.

Roy Williams + Jason Allen = :scared:

19. San Diego Chargers - Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State

Instant excitement added to the Chargers WR corps. Can Phil Rivers answer the call?

20. Kansas City Chiefs - Tye Hill, CB, Clemson

Outstanding value on the board at this point, and happens to be an area of need for the Chiefs.

21. New England Patriots - Richard Marshall, CB, Fresno State

The Patriots need DB help in a bad way...

22. San Francisco 49ers (through Washington via Denver) - DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis

Nolan loves the guy and Gore and Barlow just don't impress me much. Williams could have gone much higher if more teams picking in the top 15 had a need for RB.

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Antonio Cromartie, CB, Florida State

Local prospect provides excellent depth and a future star replacement for either Barber or Kelly.

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Kamerion Wimbley, DE, Florida State

The Bengals could use a DE here to push/replace Geathers...

25. NY Giants - Bobby Carpenter, OLB, Ohio State

26. Chicago Bears - Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami

27. Carolina Panthers - Laurence Marooney, RB, Minnesota

Next question!

28. Jacksonville Jaguars - Thomas Howard, OLB, UTEP

Next question!

29. NY Jets - LenDale White, RB, USC

:lmao: at Colts

30. Indianapolis Colts - DeMeco Ryans, OLB, UTEP

:hot: at J-E-T-S

31. Seattle Seahawks - Jonathan Joseph, CB, South Carolina

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Donte Whitner, DB, Ohio State

Next question!

What do you think??

I like it, but I still contend that Oakland will not draft Vince Young and that it's very likely that neither Huff nor Ngata get past #7.

If Huff and Ngata are in the top 7, I would assume Young and Davis both fall out.

I feel like I just wasted an hour -- I just looked at Blooms most recent draft and it is erily similar to mine :(

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ! :)

The mocks are reaching a state of equilibrium now. There's too much mis-information being thrown out by the teams to have any more meaningful discussion. With the info we have, most mocks should look pretty close, at least once we get outside the top 10.

SD needs help at CB and OT so I can't see them going WR on day 1.

Buffalo may pass on Justice, but they are fools if they do. Their offense is going to sputter with an unproven/mediocre QB (whoever they pick) and a below average line. They have a talented RB wasting away, OT instantly makes them better and helps keep the defense off the field.

Agreed. And at the spot they're at, they'll probably have their pick of McCargo or Watson with their 2nd rounder if they really want a DT.

:hifive: Im not sure if thats good or bad for you. Maybe we were just picking up on the same vibrations being sent out by the war rooms. I for one find the exercise of writing a mock great for stoking anticipation, so its never wasted time. Plus even if you have the same pick, you may have a different way of getting there. Its to the point now that every single pick in any mock is shared by another mock.

Justice vs. Bunkley (vs ngata vs huff) is tough. I think I may have overweighted the lack of depth at DT in Buffalo in that pick. Maybe a guy like Watson or Wroten makes more sense with their second. I certainly think Justice would be a good pick, and I know thats who ARud hopes they take. justice and Peters would give them a very athletic set of tackles.

3. Tennessee Titans - Matt Leinart, QB, USC

Some say his stock is falling lately, but I think the Titans' management is still in love. McNair's days in Tennessee are numbered.
I thought Titan's management was in love with Young, not Leinart.

Dolphins Also signed Goodman from the lions who isnt great but hes a decent nickelback, and they also signed renaldo hill cb/fs. I'm not sayin that they are great, but as Nickel and Dime Backs i would say they are decent depth.

Not bad.

As a Ravens fan, it's looking better and better that of these 3 linemen - Justice, Bunkley, Ngata - one will be available for Baltimore.

Another thought is that Cutler might be available at #13, and the Ravens could trade down with someone (the Jets, maybe?) who wants him at this spot.

The Dolphins will start Hadnot at Guard and McKinney at center before Ephrain. I have faith in the Dolphin leadership team that they will choose the best value guy. A receiver is not my first choice but if they feel they are getting a top 10 player at their pick go ahead. If one of the lineman they like falls, grab him, if one of teh DT's falls grab him or get a CB/safety. I would try and trade down. The Denver deal would have been one I would have been happy the Dolphins did in terms of getting 2nd and 3rd rounders for the 1st. Finally, I am a huge fan of getting a 2nd next year and 2nd and 4th this year for the 1st overall. have no issue waiting on teh draft picks and think it is the smart thing to do.
