The No Tell the Truth League (1 Viewer)

The NFL fines players for playing football. Fines players for being players off the field. And apparently, it fines Head Coaches for telling the truth. You can slug an Assistant Coach and break his jaw if you are a HC (but don't try this if you are a player in a bar...), and we'll look the other way. You can steal medical supplies and be addicted to them (just don't admit it), and we'll look the other way.

But....tell the truth about the officiating, and we will fine you.

The truth is that the officiating is one of the greatest weaknesses of the NFL. And it isn't just the Vikings-Packers game. There were horrible calls in the Monday night game. There were horrible calls all weekend. There were horrible calls last week. Personally, I have been watching the NFL for 40 years and this seems like the worst year ever. What was really egregious about the Shianco TD, was that the right call was made on the field. Then it was overturned upon review--when review is supposed to require overwhelming evidence. Now the NFL admits it was wrong. How does that happen when you have the benefit of extra time and video tape?

Isn't it time for some accountability? We hold teachers accountable. Why can't we hold referees accountable? If there are bad referees, why can't we fire them? Why can't Head Coaches grade the referees? Why can't those grades be public knowledge? There are hundreds of millions of dollars bet on football and even more if you count fantasy football. The stakes are pretty significant and many games every week are decided by less than one score--where one call can be the difference. It's time for the NFL to institute some serious monitoring of referees and some serious, and TRANSPARENT evaluation and accountability.

To fine someone who points out the problem rather than correct the problem is symptomatic of the NFL under Roger Goddell.

Move along sheeple, nothing to see here.

*NFL betting is big business. That's all I'm going to say ...
I assume this means you agree but don't think anything will change? It happened in the NBA. Why would the NFL be any different? If there is no mechanism in place to ensure integrity, then it is a certainty that someone will be corrupted by the influence of gambling money. The players are mostly well paid; but the refs are not. They are easy targets and are above reproach; not even a HC can question their decisions publicly. There needs to be integrity and accountability and transparency.

Baseball umpires are even worse. They are allowed to make up their own strike zone and it's all good. Phantom double plays where if a fielder gets within 2 feet of the bag it's good enough. And of course calls at first base with one out to go in a perfect game. And the dumb ### Commissioner in that sport is such a curmudgeon he's against instant replay. Pathetic.

 ;) Officials should be held accountable either via fine, suspension and/or termination.
